Looks like a good deal for an excellent piece of software.
Is this a standalone download/install or is it installed over an existing free version?

This doesn't need a key because it's a 365 day trial, but works just like the full version does.
Make sure to go to settings > general > popups and turn off the popup ads for other Avast products.

Are we saying that not all the features of the software are free? Does this post suggest the internet security feature wasn't free but now is, for a year? Because when I'm 'fixing performance issues' it immediately asks me to cough up. Downloaded using the link provided. Wasn't already installed.

I already have Avast free version. Downloaded and tried to install this several times and it hangs with a small blue window and a line going back and forth.
Do i need to uninstall the free version first or am I doing something else wrong?
Thanks.

Had to lol at this, if there's one thing this (and also particularly AVG, and Avira) will do is give you a ton of false positives. Even try to tell me my own damn self-created progs are dodgy. What's the point in an AV that is far too trigger-happy, might as well stand outside shouting "Wolf" every 2 minutes.

You can usually get free av software from your internet provider if your not happy with what Microsoft supply. Virgin will give you 12 months of F-Secure, Sky will give you 12 months of McAfee etc. They'll want to charge you after your free year so you'll need to remember to cancel.

I'm glad I didn't get round to installing this - I initially thought it would be for the whole package, as it is, it's not really worth it with the upgrade from the free version. The vpn was the thing I was really after. Has anyone seen any decent free promos lately?

People complaining that they need to pay for this feature or that feature have to realise this is how Avast works and has done for several years, even the fully paid versions are the same. I don't particularly like how they go about it by not telling you upfront though.
The VPN, Data Shredder and Cleanup are paid addons to the Internet Security package and are not included. AVG and others do the same thing, once you understand how it works you can just ignore those functions.
If you click Custom during install you can choose not to install some non free components and other stuff you might not want, like the browser addons.

Try Avira free.I have been using it for years and have never had a virus in that time. I have installed it on all my extended families computers, none have reported any trouble with it nor any viruses!
I am more than au fait with the workings of websites and addresses having designed a great many over the years. I am merely highlighting the fact that it is always wise to check (pretty simple to do). As I am sure you are aware, it is also a pretty straightforward task to spoof a domain name.
Not everybody is blessed with the same level of expertise as your good self so a timely reminder is never a bad thing.

For Android try Opera and Opera Max.
For a Windows system take a look at http://www.techradar.com/news/the-best-free-vpn
For any iOS system (iPhone, iPad, Macbook etc etc), if you are stupid enough to pay over the odds like 95 per cent of the rest of the planet then you deserve it - and you can afford to just replace your hardware if things go apple, I mean pear shaped.

If you are clued up (which I don't doubt) on these things why were your first words to the previous poster that this is "highly dubious"? You could have explained that subdomains like this are a standard part of the internet and used on millions of sites all over the world.
By all means advise people to check if they are not sure about something, but don't scare them when there is no need to...

yes mine is the same, but i only need internet security and not performance fix. as they say in the subscription help, it state that secureline vpn, cleanup and passwords features require a paid licence. if i remember correctly, at the start of installation, you have an option for manual select what to install. i think, if you choose automatic, it will install extra program in the software where you have to pay for it to function. looks like this trial offer only function as a internet security.
