Mmm. They keep doing this but you have to give credit card details then if you try to find anything usual blocks apply until they can get money out of you. I'll give it a miss

In South Wales we have a archives called Glamorgan House which you can research Welsh past documents etc. In the main entrance hall there are computers for the public to use to access archives which includes ffre unristricted access to Ancestry web site. I found out about this when i went on an open day tour. I am assuming there must be other similar orgenisations around tbe country in cities that this serive can be used anytime during the opening hours for free. Also staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Free access to records from 18th to 20th February, sounds like a bargain, But what if my great grandad was born outside these dates - say 24th June, do I have to pay?

I had an annual subscription now expired, so these free weekends are useful to adding information to my existing tree. I have recently been using familysearch.org which is a free website (no credit card details taken) and also had a 2 week free trial of findmypast both of which have some different records to Ancestry.

my brother set us up on tribalpages. it's not the most beautiful site, but is quite functional for the free service.

Not in my local libraries. But we do get one free hour per week at findmypast.co.uk, so I'm not complaining.

I seem to be locked out as normal even though I'm logged in.

If you look around (Google is your friend) you can get free access to ancestrylibrary.com (the version they use in the libraries) - quite a few libraries in the USA & Australia list their log in details on their websites.
