Reading through the spec on Tesco site for these fire models, there is a £10 charge for removing ADs. Regardless of who sell these fire tablets, I think this £10 is standard. I never owned a fire tablet so far though. Just thought of sharing.
Tesco price is £34 for 7" 8GB Fire and £44 for 7" 16GB models

I bought one of these at Christmas and the ads aren't intrusive, so I wouldn't be concerned about removing them. The only ads I get are on the lock screen, which is easily ignored; most are for apps or Amazon Prime. You can also install Google Play store on these tablets to get the apps not in the Amazon app store. It's a good cheap tablet IMHO.

I thought they don't give out refunds for price drops anymore? (As of May 2016..)

Can you re-flash these with something like Cyanogen? Can you install Google Play?
CyanogenMod has recently been discontinued on this tablet as it has a locked bootloader so is stuck at android 5.1 - which support for was dropped with the switchover to LineageOS. The last release is still available at XDA Developers, as is Fire Nexus, which is an AOSP based Android Lollipop 5.1 rom.
Root isn't available for the latest FireOS release, so if these come with 5.3.2.1 you will be stuck with fireos for a while - tablets purchased from currys/argos have generally been sat around for a while though and usually come with an older version preinstalled.
They are on the lock screen, so pretty annoying every time you come to use the tablet - easily removed though, either on the original fireos or by flashing a clean android rom.

I bought from Argos and it has Amazon adverts. Got onto Amazon customer service chat, who said that Fires with special deals are subject to adverts and it would be £10 to remove them. I said that it was disgusting that they were forcing adverts on my 6yr old child and I asked them to tell me where in the Argos catalogue/website or on the box it said that there will be adverts. They agreed that it wasn't stated anywhere and immediately removed the adverts without charge. I then put Google Play and Nova Launcher on it :-)

Alternative: signup for free kids unlimited trial which explicitly states ad free. Complain that device still serving ads. CS take off the ads.

I have not owned a tablet yet and want to buy a cheap one.
These Amazon adverts that people mention - how intrusive are they?

Thanks. I can deal with looking at an advert while I get the thing going.

They're not annoying our intrusive, but add described before, easily removed. The online tutorials for adding play store removes them IIRC.

I have the smaller version (HD6, 4th generation) which I bought having seen it on here late last year. It's a bit slow and the storage is limited but it's amazingly good for the amount I paid.
Annoyingly the HD6 is what I am looking for at a good price, and Amazon seem to no longer be pushing it. It is a shame as they had loads on Amazon Warehouse dirt cheap when I wasn't interested, now there are none.

If you only intend to have a few apps but a lot of content (videos, music, books etc) go for 8gb and an SD card. If you intend to have more apps and not much content then get the 16gb model.

Sweet!, I'm glad that the NOWFIVE Code is still good to go! (I'd all but forgotten about that?, hehehe).
Does the PRIME10 Code, or similar? (whatever that is now?), for £10 off, still work also?, or ..... thanx for any feedback. :-)

Works fine for me for browsing and YouTube videos. It might be a bit slow (1 or 2) seconds , but for this price it's not that an issue.
I would be disappointed if I paid £50+ for it, but for the price range it's a gem

it's a code you use at the check out on the prime now app. (scaled down version of Amazon where your items get delivered in an hour or 2) make sure to alter the tip though

I would agree with the very slow part, not the worst by far - I've owned plenty of chinese tablets over the years that make the fire look like the rolls royce of the tablet world. But it IS slow, I picked one up on an impulse buy at christmas and it's really poor compared to our 4 year old iPad mini. nice tablet for kids with the free amazon underground games and the firekids thing but it gets frustrating using it daily as an adult imho.

I went in and took a look at one of these today. For kids who are going to just play a few games, these are actually ok. If you're going to use the browser though, there can be quite a big of lag and it generally feels sluggish.

I got the adverts removed, but it was painful. the chat help wouldn't do it. had to speak to a manager and 23 minutes later they were gone. I got them on the kids unlimited no adverts. I had to read out word for word there terms before they would do it.

Perhaps the title should mention Amazon first, rather than Currys?
Me and Stu C have created threads on games that are on Amazon Underground (others have too!).

Maybe because curry's reduced the item 1st and some 3-4 hours later amazon did the same so I added amazon onto the title. Makes sense :man:
