I used a 40% voucher recently, and I still walked away miffed. The food is really low quality, and their business model seems to be a highly inflated standard price, supplemented by loads of 'bargain' vouchers they flood the market with. The waitress was expecting a code when I came to pay. Does anyone pay full price, I asked. Rarely, she said.

This is an ok price, I guess, but they aren't worth any more than this.

Nice pint of Samuel Adams, though.

Good price, sadly in our local Frankie and Bennys someone goes in with an atmosphere vacuum and hoovers it all up regularly.

You can also go there when half the tables are empty but get told there is a 30 minute wait to be seated.

would that not be because they wont have enough staff on to cover all the tables?

Snap. My Local (Kidderminster) told me at 2pm last Wednesday that there would be a 30-40 minute wait for food... No less than 5-6 tables taken in a 2 storey restaurant...
But the beer is also very overpriced. For our family (of 4) to have a simple main each, 2 sides to share and a drink each, we're normally looking at around £40... Which ain't great. I dare say, I've had better meals at wetherspoons at half the price.

As others have said, F&B's is rank. Cheap quality food, staff who keep hovering round to make you eat a bit quicker. Overpriced and totally underwhelming. I can't see how they stay in business. I guess it's just easy to dive into one after the cinema or a days shopping. Here's hoping they go the wall and Chiquitos, La Tasca, Girraffe, Cafe Rouge and many other 'casual' dining outlets follow..

I agree.

I went in to my local over Christmas for the first time in about 10 years and ordered one of their double up burgers and the patties tasted like they were worse than the frozen Birdseye brand.

I will certainly not be going back ever again.

Food tastes microwaved and it was absolutely disappointing.

I've often been tempted by my local F&B, but all your comments have set me straight on that! They do vary. I live near the High Wycombe, Bracknell and Taplow all of which I visit periodically.
HW is the worst for long waiting times and unhelpful staff. But it is the smallest, and next to a large busy cinema and a huge Next.
But, I'd visit them all again. Hot from me. My eldest turns 17 this month and he likes a burger or two, so I know one place I'm taking him for a treat in half term! Thanks op

Frankie and Benny's is a con. Not only because of their normal prices, but the story they sell too.

Frankie and Benny never existed.
They are just made up characters.
The photos of the "founders" on the walls in the restaurants are actors.

It's just a British chain selling "New York Italian" style low quality food.

2 Feb 17 1 #74
Cold!

It's always been about this price at Wetherspoons, the quality is just as good on average, better service, and cheaper drinks - and if whoever you go with doesn't want a burger, theirs will be cheaper too

I find all these chain, mock-posh-restaurants, this, bella italia, tgi's, harvesters, nandos etc rather sadenning. Poor quality food at high prices getting lapped up readily, and trampling over smaller, local, genuinely tasty places to eat.

Go find a nice gastropub or little family run place, or even a smaller chain that still bothers trying to cook good food, and eat there instead
megaman666

2 Feb 17 1 #76
F&B should understand that this "fake Italian-American" overpriced eating has had its day....

Not sure why they are telling shareholders that it's all going to be ok after a revamp....

Service has always been awful at my local F&B although I do know people who do like it and return.

The food quality is not consistent and so after a few visits, I won't return.

This deal is a good price, but if you add drinks, then that competitive edge is lost.

Compare the value at F&B to Nandos, and the latter is streets ahead.

Agree local places get overlooked.... but they aren't all great either sadly

Another surprise is to find some of these places doing well on Tripadvisor and other review sites....

And haven't been disappointed by Wetherspoons as yet - good value for money - and never pretends to be fine dining

Personally not a fan of F+B, remember ordering a burger and fries. Fries came in a little brown bag and only must have been around 7 in there, burger was incredibly average.

For Burgers me and the Girlfriend love Five Guys Burger bar, deliciously huge burgers, a bit pricey but can have upto 15 toppings for free for the set burger price (Never seen anyone go for all 15 though lol). Fries are delicious in there too.

2 Feb 17 1 #81
I must be in the minority then as my F&B does a great burger - must have a really good chef. Admittedly they are a bit overpriced but at 5.95 I'll deffo be going in - and no, I don't work there I just have never had a bad burger in there.

Really? Which one have you visited? The price is fine with me. It probably depends on your level of income to some degree. I'm very lucky to earn a very good wage, so £11 for a really good quality burger / something I really enjoy - doesn't bother me at all. And they are great quality, at least in the 4 or 5 I visit in London anyway.
gbmcginty
3 Feb 17 #122
WOW! You earn enough to eat at GBK?! Can I have your life??

My point wasn't that the price is completely ridiculous, it's that there are so many much better options at the price point. Why anyone would pay that money for a pretty poor chain restaurant burger is beyond me, was my point. In Bristol for example you have at least 15 independent burger places, many of which blow GBK, Five Guys, name your chain out of the water.

You don't pay full price at GBK. Download the app and the burgers are often on 2 for £12, or you get free sides etc. We LOVE gbk, but it probably varies in quality from branch to branch. Some people rave about Handmade burger co and I've had 2 very mediocre to bad meals there the two times we've tried them. All down to personal taste.

I am a consumer, on a consumers forum, I assume you are also a savvy consumer as you are on this site. You then say you visit a restaurant numerous times, although each time you find it disappointing.

I just find the situation bizarre, and it is my right as a free individual to judge any situation I like, especially bizarre ones as these are the best ones to judge.

But by all means, continue to visit places and pay money for continuous personal disappointment, this is also your right as a free individual.

I quite liked it when I went yesterday, had the de Nero burger with added sour cream. You have my concent to judge that.

Used to work in F&B, some people like the burgers but they are a pretty standard affair, they come in from Brakes food supplier and you'll find the same ones priced differently all over the place, places like Prezzo serve them and pretend they are high quality but you will also find them in pubs.

Go at a quiet time and you will get better service, F&B stretch their staff very thin to save on costs.

Good news is your waiter will keep 100% of your tip, even on card, they don't skim any off the top. If the meal is crap do let the staff know, the waiter wont give a hoot and its policy to make sure you leave 'happy' so they will make you a fresh one or change the meal.

This might be a bit of an aside, but if you are nice to the waiter as soon as you meet them you will get much better service. Being nice means they think you will tip, and will concentrate service on you, maybe a bit shallow but its how they get paid after all.

Of course if you are a miserable **** and or never tip then just be yourself ^_^

5 Feb 17 #144
Places like frankie and bennys/prezzo/high street 'restaurant' chains should rot.

Theyre a complete ripoff whos prices seem to be artificially high using the model of rip off anyone who doesnt know any better while offering the same food at half price to anyone who does a google and signs up to a newsletter using a disposible email address to get a code, which is a disgusting practice.

The group that runs this chain is to close 33 of it's restaurants. It doesn't surprise me. Link

Really ? Looks like you're not going to the right areas then or just jealous both i guess. Anyway this is supposed to be about a burger not about your capital city.
barbiegirl
5 Feb 17 #148
London is an alpha city and if you have money it's one of the greatest places to live in the world. If you don't earn well, there's less point living here. The best restaurants, theatres, museums, art galleries and gigs in Europe. It's also a place that for many of us has enabled us to become (property) millionaires very quickly. Leaving many of us with the equity to retire to more genteel parts of the country some 10-20 years before others are so lucky.

So, yeah, there's good reason to be potentially jealous....

Why do you put 'lol' at the end. Is it because you found your own comment somehow humorous? Is it supposed to represent a nervous kind of laugh because you think or feel you're saying something contentious?

X is the most Y in the Z. Lol.

See, not really funny or indeed contentious.

Lost.

You seem to be taking this all far too seriously. You're arguing with people and extolling the benefits of our nations capital in a Frankie and Bennie's burger voucher thread.

The irony of my comment is not lost on me.

6 Feb 17 #152
hadn't been to F&B for ages. thought I'd give it a go with this voucher. wish I hadn't bothered now. Not worth £5.95 for burger and chips, never mind the full price of £13.95..
ellie27
6 Feb 17 #153
Went yesterday. NOTE - its only £5.95 if you have 1 code on your downloaded app. Need to sign up another email if there are 2 folk having burgers! We done that at the table when the waitress came with the bill! OK for £5.95.

We have actually paid the full price of £12ish per burger before but thats only when we have kids eat free when the kids have drinks/pizzas/icecreams all free!

Thanks OP. There's an F&B close to where I work which isn't too bad at lunchtimes. A £6 burger is better value than the cafeteria nearby.
It's a bit crap in the evenings when they play "Happy Birthday" and Cliff Richard's "Congratulations" every 10 minutes or so!
