The Alcatel Shine Lite is a budget-friendly 4G handset with 16GB ROM, 2GB RAM, a 5" HD display and features an excellent fingerprint sensor similar to the ones found in Huawei phones, which is pretty much unheard of in a phone at this price point purchased from a UK store.
It features a premium glass and metal design, with a design language possibly inspired by Huawei's P9 and Honor 8 range.
The rear camera is a 13MP shooter with a dual-tone flash, and the front camera is a 5MP shooter with its own dedicated flash.
I don't know about you, but this seems a right bargain for the price. Not only does it offer better build quality than other phones at this price point, such as the Samsung Galaxy J3 and J5, and the Huawei Y6 II Compact, it's being sold by a proper UK retailer so there'll be no issues with warranty claims. The same can't be said about similarly specced and priced Chinese imports.
Available in black and gold.

Hi all,
Thought I'd update the thread with my thoughts on the phone. Picked one up for a relative and set it up for her this evening.
It is absolutely fantastic. For the price, it cannot be beaten. The build quality is great, the performance is spot on, with no visible lag or stutter even while installing apps in the background.
The screen has excellent viewing angles, and despite it being only a 720p display, it's pin sharp and is comparable to an iPhone in that you can't view individual pixels, even when up close. I know the iPhone is around 326ppi and this is 294ppi, but I didn't observe any difference.
The camera is fine for the price. Far better than the camera found on a Smart Ultra 6, and possibly comparable to something like a Galaxy S5. It only records video in 720p, however.
The fingerprint sensor is excellent. It recognises my fingerprint and my relative's every time, and unlocked the phone in under a second.
It's pretty much stock Android throughout. There are several pre-installed apps that can be uninstalled, however I found one or two, such as Uber, which for some reason can only be disabled (not uninstalled, which is a shame).
And one excellent plus is that it comes with a well made gel case in the box! It fits perfectly, and has a slight lip around the front glass so that if you drop the phone on a hard flat surface, the gel case will come into contact with the floor instead of the screen.
All in all, I feel it's a great phone for £110, and I am really glad I picked this over another phone at this price point.
Warranty was confirmed by the staff member at Carphone Warehouse as being 2 years, which is yet another welcome addition. And certainly a much better warranty than any you'd get from an imported Chinese phone!

You can get it without the top-up if you have a Pay As You Go SIM on O2, EE or Vodafone that is actively used, and it would then be processed as a Pay As You Go upgrade.

Specs obviously not quite up to a Xiaomi but you're getting a UK warranty you can actually claim on.
Would also take stock Android over the bloated and buggy mess that is MIUI. Fingerprint sensor on my Redmi 3S Prime only works 50% of the time, had loads of network/notification problems, app reload/refresh problems.

If you're good at flashing Roms etc do yourself a favour and get a £130 Zuk z2 instead. Seems a good deal though if you're not confident with flashing roms

Looks a good phone for the price, I really wish it had a USB C port though.(I hate micro USB)
Recently smashed the screen on my ZenFone 3 and was looking at a Redmi Pro but which has a USB C but this looked a good alternative apart from the USB C.

I finally bought this as an upgrade on my ageing iphone 4 but I can't find a decent case online. Anyone know of a shockproof case? I currently use a shock & dust proof case for the old iphone but can't see similar for this phone. I don't really want just a gel case or a wallet type. Cheers for any help.

I decided to bite and I bought this today. Had it for a few hours now and I have to say I really like it. Replaced my Moto G 2nd gen which is two years old. If you are doing the same then note that you will need to trim your sim card as it's the smaller size you need.
I had immediate software update, all the apps I wanted to keep downloaded as they should.
I had a problem getting my memory card to format but it seems OK now.
Taking some getting used to with the keyboard; typing this for example and it is changing words in some sentences.
I don't use my phone camera much and so I've not even tested that yet.
Everything appears responsive. Hopefully I'll get to try one of my running apps on the go tomorrow.
Great value for money so far.
On a sidenote, has anyone found a screen protector yet? For a case, I'm happy with the see through gel case which is included.

just download the Google keyboard from the app store because that's what would have been on your Moto g.

Hi. Here is my situation with the battery today;
Where I work, I have very poor phone reception and no wifi but I always just leave my data, wifi and location turned on. Simply because I'm lazy to turn it off.
You can image how much battery they can take up alone....searching for a reception and briefly giving me data every now and then, maybe send the odd email or whats app message through.
During my breaks, I usually pop outside and have a quick general browse or a play on a basic game.
Anyway, I left for work about 8am with 97%. I've been home since about 5.20pm and I've used my phone a little bit since then.
It's now 7.05pm and my battery is at 59%.
I really can't say much about the camera as I've still not really used it.

2.5 hours with no use sees it reduced just 2%.
Hope that helps.
