doesn't say anything about freesync on the link. voted hot for price but I would search out a freesync one. but I like my 1080p Samsung 46" tv and haven't been convinced to jump yet!

I'm intrigued, as I've never heard of TN, which I'm assuming is the "Twisted Nematic Film." What is it and why avoid it?

There's a lot of science behind display screen technology. You'd be better reading up on it. Look for the differences between TN, IPS to see the pros and cons between both. In short, TN have worse colour reproduction and viewing angles, but faster refresh rates in comparison to IPS.
But there are some amazing TNs out there. My Dell S2716DG for example has great viewing angles and good colours.

How much did you get that for? Looks quite good and supports G-sync but it seems to cost £500+

I know about the different screen technologies. TN at this price point is going to be garbage. If this is your price point you're better off spending an extra £20 for an IPS panel and have a much better experience.
The response times on IPS are perfectly fine for anyone but perhaps the most hardcore/mlg but then they would be buying ROG level hardware where you can argue TN's merits.
I would only recommend IPS or VA.
TN only really has a place in the market in top end gamer focused panels where response times are critical or where IPS/VA can't deliver the performance requirements like with the new 240Hz ROG monitor.

Some things that drive lcd panels quality,
Panel type: tn, pls, ips or va
colour depth: 6bit, 6bit plus 2 bit frc,8bit, 8bit plus 2 bit frc,10 bit and 10bit plus 2 bit frc
Backlighting tech, which will increase or decrease the colour gamut.
For gamers free sync(2) or g-sync will also matter
Note that you can get a 6bit ips/va/pls panel or a 8bit tn panel so don't automatically assume tn can't give good colour reproduction and that ips does :smile:
I got it when it first came out, at a reasonable offer. Under £400. Woldnt pay the price now for it, though I did buy the rog swift for £550 before it. Glad I got rid of it as I'm now using a monitor I don't feel as guilty about :smiley:

Bottom of the barrel TN should be avoided imho.
