I can definitely use this with Windows? I mean, will a Windows 10 PC see this driver easily or is it a faff?

There would be no problem. WD state on the packaging that the drive is Windows compatible.

It's USB. If it works in Mac it'll work in Windows no problem.

Easily seen I can confirm after format for use with windows. When connected by USB open device drive etc comes up.

Thanks. That's an old guide now - you can open them with a credit card - I've done it with several MyCloud units.

My question was in regard to the recent models and whether the drives inside them are standard - the 2.5" drives inside the passport and element units lost their standard SATA interface and I was told this was due to happen to the 3.5" models, but I've not seen or heard anything to back it up so it may just be a a BS rumour.

By the way, WD don't use Reds in their desktop boxes, well not in the strictest sense - they are black & white labelled NAS Ware drives which are believed to be the same.

This guide shows the identical drive to the one I bought. There seem to be numerous versions with different ventilation slot designs (and different ways of opening). Interesting what you say about the actual drive within. All I can say is that it is being reported as a Red, but I won't know for sure until I've opened it (after I've thoroughly tested it!).

No. Just work your way round the seam and it will click open. Some bits did take a bit of force but nothing needed past a penknife
