Totally agree, I have no problems with the Netgear 200mbps adapters or Trendnet 500 Mbps adapters I have.
For somebody looking for high throughput on their Lan, 200mbps may not be enough, but is more than adequate for my needs.
Also pass through is just a gimmick as far as I'm concerned and an unnecessary extra expense. Non pass through are much smaller and double plug adapters are cheap.
I have also never had an issue with trailing sockets either.

Can't say those reviews look particularly helpful. I'm using a pair of BT AV200 powerline adapters and they are perfectly adequate for my needs and would no doubt be for at least 90% of the country.

One review: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/review/powerline-adapters/d-link-av2-1000-hd-powerline-adapters-review-3623398/
"Both sets of D-Link Powerlines are basic. There’s no wireless function to add a new Wi-Fi hotspot in the second room (as some Powerlines boast) and there’s no pass-through power socket on the adapters either, so they will use up your wall sockets – don’t plug them into a power extender as this will slow them down.
If you don’t have a ton of power sockets then you should consider Powerline adapters with these integrated pass-through sockets. D-Link is planning pass-through versions of both products."
(How much are your power sockets worth? It looks like pass-through versions are around £50).
For me, these are the previous generation's products, selling at a 50% discount. Probably still good enough though.

Good spot. And the D-Link DHP-509AV/B AV 500 HD PowerLine Starter Kit is just £14.48 new from Amazon (~£1 cheaper for Used - Very Good from the warehouse).
Ordered from CPC... They are £ 38 on Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/PLA5206-Powerline-Gigabit-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00OB2D5XC/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1485884196&sr=8-10&keywords=gigabit+powerline)

Hey folks I have read that adaptors need to be on the same power ring and I have also seen folks say they work across as long as they're on the same meter. Is that down to model?

Does this only extend it within the same ring main? My garage up the garden is on it's own rcd, would this improve my signal up there?

just ring up and say your youviee box is in a different room to your router and you can't use it without powerline adapters.

You can plug them into whatever you like. The operating system a computer happens to be running has absolutely nothing to do with it.
If I was to get some pass through ones with these would there be a problem with compatibility.

I bought these last week and I get the same speed from these upstairs as I do directly connected to the router downstairs. I paid £28 for them from Amazon.

This 2016 Wirecutter review says:
"The...[list of adapters], D-Link Powerline AV2 1000 Gigabit Starter Kit (DHP-601AV) were fine but unexceptional last year; now they’re too slow."
The 2000 Mbps items that they are slower than look to cost nearly £100:
