Known issue with this model. The HDMI line in's go faulty due to a power issue. It works for a while but then fails so you have to use another line in which then goes faulty until you run out of line in's. Had to exchange lots in a very short period of time.

So what makes this a good deal? I know yamaha make good stuff but what makes this better than others of similar price? I need an amp/reciever for my TV and blu ray player but no idea how much I should spend tbh.

Some very desperate attempts at humor from failed comedians on these AV receiver threads.
The 'jokes' are just boring now.

So many amps do this, is there a reason why they cheap out on the surround terminals?

They use proper speaker binding terminals for the front L/R channels but opted for those cheap 'n nasty spring clip speaker terminals for the centre and surround channels.
Heat for the price, the speaker cables in those spring clip terminals leave the hell alone once installed!

Ideally I'd like a surround sound set. Can anyone do better than the np40?

Can anyone suggest some similarly priced speakers to go with this? Looked at eclipse 3s but I prefer bookcase speakers as opposed to floor standing for my room

Try the Wharfedale Diamond 220s, £149 on RS at the minute. Cracking little speakers.

Still using my rxv375 and on the look of out for an upgrade but would prefer something slimmer, this looks like a good deal though

There's a set of Yamaha speakers on the listing or you could always get some tannoy HTS101XP depends on your room size really

noticeable, not really unless your talking about cod online, I noticed a hell of a difference when I took my amp out. (lower spec Yamaha)
if your using it for gaming then best bet is use optical cable and avoid hdmi pass through.

Dumb question but does this output native 1080p? My extension cables only support native 1080p and I can't be asked to channel the wall again.

Great price - but Amazon's product title is incorrect; this model doesn't feature MusicCast (the next model up in the range does). Still a bargain for £219 though!

Do receivers add any noticeable delay when gaming?

No. Your TV is more likely to add delay

Still using an older RXV 377 and it's great with a set of Eclipse 3s. Knows how to displease a neighbour, or two.
Opening post
Hope it helps someone.
