It plays 4K blu-rays and streams 4K the games are not 4K only they have HDR in the one s! You can set it to upscale but most 4K TVs do that anyway but upscaling is not 4K it still 1080p or 720p just it won't be native 4K which has 4 times the amount of information and that's why the picture difference is so much better!
Upscaling is therefore a stopgap measure in the absence of true 4K players and content. Since 4K or “UltraHD” content provides four times the image information and detail as 1080P, the difference can be dramatic — especially when viewed on large screen sizes. These viewing scenarios are becoming increasingly common as television prices continuing to drop and technology advances. When true 4K content is available, not needing upscaling is ultimately the only way to achieve the clarity, realism and immersiveness made possible by 4K.
If you want 4K gaming you will have to either buy a pc or wait till the next Xbox at the end of this year comes out! (Project Scorpio) ☺️

Endless confusion about this. If (presumably) seasoned gamers don't get it, what hope does your average consumer - or parent buying for a child - have?
"When you set your console resolution to 4K UHD, everything on the console—Home, games, and apps—will display at 4K. 4K content is displayed in its native 4K resolution, and other content (like 1080p content) is upscaled to 4K."

Ordered. Was a choice between this or a second PS4 as I'm setting up a games room and want to move my 2tb ps4 in there but the boy loves minecraft. Now I will have a console in the living room for casual and exclusive games as well as a 4k bluray player.

Also the Xbox One S can play games in 4k upscaled with HDR and also play 4k movie discs, the original cannot do any of that.

Xbox one does not upscale games to 4K it can only stream and play 4K blurays! Only difference to games is the HDR! =]

Minecraft comes as a download code.
Bought this just after xmas, and one for daughter before xmas. Took the second back as it's cheap and lightweight, cheap finish, cheap lightweight controller, 5 second delay from control to console when browsing Xbox home. Crashed losing gameplay a couple of times. Freezes. Daughter kept hers because she's young and doesn't mind. Original Xbox one (which we also have) is superior quality but obviously no 4K.

Very good price.
Got an Xbox One for my son for Xmas, which he plays in the dining room.
He's decided he'd like another one for his birthday so he can play in his bedroom when he feels like it.
At this price I'm very tempted, especially as he will be able to sell/trade in the Minecraft he also got at Xmas.
That said, need to check what the wifi signal is like in his bedroom, on his current Xbox before splashing out again!

It wasn't connected over WiFi, I have 2 Xbox 360's and originally one xbox one all connected by cat 6 ethernet without any problems, but as soon as I got a "one s" it caused lots of problems including xbox live not connecting from one bedroom to another(have two accounts)but as soon as I bought an old xbox one everthing runs perfect again.
I put in a search for xbox one s problems and find lots of people having problems.
Thats why I say they are crap.

The "One S" is a pile of crap,I bought one just before Christmas and had more problems with it.
It struggled to connect to xbox live and when it did it regurly droped the connection, would not keep stable in parties.
I took it back in three days and got a refund and bought an older xbox one and it runs perfect.
Do research and you will find lots being sold off only a few weeks old as they are so bad.

I own the Xbox One S, in my opinion its superior to the original Xbox One in every way. I have had no issues at all since buying it, I owned an Xbox One day one console that I sold and have no regrets doing so. The matte finish is much better, its quieter, the S doesn't have that huge power brick that the original xbox one has and its faster/more powerful that the original too and is much smaller. Overall so far I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with the Xbox One S, if anyone is unsure I say go for it. If there are any issues the console has a years warranty with it, I have had zero issues and I have owned mine for months now.

I had the same issue with my PS4. Awful, awful wi-fi connection. Bought home plugs and it sorted it out. All I can think of in your case is maybe the S uses a different wi-fi card to the original and where you have it located, that wi-fi card just doesn't receive the same signal.

We have it on every format.. why would they want to play split screen when they can local LAN on each of their PC's? I play it on XB1 but even I can see the PC version is alot better..

Split screen on the same tele without the chance of dodgy's trying to groom them, is a massive plus. Start playing it yourself and see if they want to join in.
