Think the guy posts it to you via courier so if you have any problems your protected by eBay anyway
bryngreen
7 Jan 17 1 #4

Seller has loads of good feedback from selling these previously, and eBay heavily favour the buyer if anything were to go wrong, so I see no real risk here, I picked up 2 from the first batch.

If it were a scam I would expect them to have listed more than 50 this time around opposed to the 168 in the last batch

Yup, eBay won't give you your money back, but you'll get it back from PayPal as they protect digital goods. I went through this whole rigmarole a couple of months ago. Despite eBay telling me the persons account was hacked and it was a scam they wouldn't give me the money. Bloody ridiculous. I had to go through Paypal twice (the first time I selected the wrong option about it not being delivered so they found in favour of the seller, the second time I had to go through their social media channels to get them to respond).

Either way I've just received a despatch email from this seller, but so far no sign of a code...

yup stalling for time, my theory the account has been hijackd or we are all receiving blank pieces of paper via post.

i'm on the phone to paypal now, how someone linking to his ebay account is fraudulent activity is beyond me , if anyone is scamming it's the seller imo.

zombrex
8 Jan 17 #68
Don't know, if i were you i'd contact ebay or paypal the longer you leave it the more chance he has of getting away with your money.

168 of these were sold in a short period now he's changing from emailed to posted and bunging in £15.00 free credit .....**** you don't just happen to have 168 £50 cards lying around sell them for £33.00 either they don't exist or he's obtained them frauduently.

my moneys on them not existing at all either way lodged my concerns with paypal and they are going to call me back.

did it not occur to you to just ask for them now whilst chatting to him?...something tells me we will have more chance of seeing snow than getting them codes.
euphoriclegends
8 Jan 17 #89
I've ordered from him many times before he had a break from eBay down to scammers and that's the whole procedure now, he said this "I've been smashed with claim backs especially from customers I actually service super regularly. My acc nearly restricted. Don't worry yours will be with you.
Will make sure you don't miss the sale" so he's being extra careful now and it alerts him when people ask for the code straight away, so he waits a couple days so if people buy it'll look more of a scam when they reverse the transaction as being unauthorised as it'll of taken a couple days to notice
lucifon
8 Jan 17 #90
That makes a lot of sense. What makes zero sense is a scammer cancelling orders, if it was a scam surely he'd want your money not to give a refund
euphoriclegends
8 Jan 17 #91
My point exactly if he was scamming let's say payday loan, why would he refund people so easily and fast, the reason he takes time is like I said if it was immediate then it would look more like unauthorised access when they set the claim back, but waiting a few days to send code then them putting unauthorised claim in would look like the buyer is scamming it's all standard procedures
bryngreen
8 Jan 17 #92
I've got paranoid because of this thread and asked him to cancel. He replied saying all done just waiting for PayPal / eBay to do it there end. I know PayPal is immediate refunds so gave them a quick call. Nothing authorised his end. Dropped him another email saying if I don't receive a refund I'll raise a claim and he just said "a claim for what we've cancelled your order"
nublets2k
8 Jan 17 #93
Saying he has 50 codes for a reduced price and then selling 168 doesn't really look good.

Offering an extra £15 to people who ask about delays doesn't look good either.
UnderTheRadar
8 Jan 17 #94
Had pretty much the same thing. Saying it's with PayPal/eBay...
bryngreen
8 Jan 17 #95
He's refunded now.

I do believe people will get their codes, but I'm questioning the legitimacy of the means in which they were obtained and for that reason I'm out
bryngreen
8 Jan 17 1 #96
Send him another message he will do it and then say it was done straight away... something not right about him
zombrex
8 Jan 17 #97

it's not standard proceedure is it?

Who puts terms and conditions in a listing saying will be sent by email within 48hrs and only 50 to sell at that price.

Then goes onto sell 168, and start sending out messages about fraudulent activity because someone posted it as a deal which it was.

explain why people from the middle of the week are still waiting to receive codes, can you even be 100% certain it's the same person behind the screen now who it was when you had dealings with.

Why is he refunding some but not others when requested.

It's one of those situations where something weird is going on but your not sure what imho....my advice claw your money back or be prepared to lose it.

He knows he shouldn't be selling them digitally ,we know we aren't covered by buying digital goods
CosmicKite
8 Jan 17 #98
I've used this seller at least half a dozen times. Always emails code, inside 2 hours usually. He's only ever had £25 or £20 (2x £10 codes). Looks like he's been hacked.
zombrex
8 Jan 17 #99
i'd also recommend keeping an eye on your paypal activity relating to a refund too if the account was compromised and a mooky card was used to initiate the refund , paypal will not hesitate to try claw it back.

murky minefield is ebay when it comes to elaborate scams. What's to say the original guy hasn't got fed up of people doing chargebacks and sold the account on (it does happen and sites are out there for this sole purpose)

8 Jan 17 2 #113
No need to be condescending - guy has sold lots of these via email in the past. And said it'd take 48 hours anyway. Ebay generally favours the buyer and you're PayPal protected too. He's also giving refunds if you want them. There's not really much risk to waiting here.
slliw
8 Jan 17 1 #114
Yeah I'm gonna wait it out, see what happens £33 ain't gonna break the bank.
zombrex
8 Jan 17 #115
it's not about breaking the bank, it's about reducing the amount a scammer is going to get away with.

All he has to do is provide a tracking number for anything and paypal will side with him, and when you explain what it is you bought " oh sorry your item isn't covered * goodbye £33.00 x how many have been paid for.

paypal/ebay have their fee's they won't care
slliw
8 Jan 17 1 #116
That risk was always there when he was selling £50 for £33 and hence why everyone jumped on. Personally for me I'll risk it. I'd feel worse off if I cancelled it then others started reporting on here that they received theirs and it worked. Each to their own.
euphoriclegends
8 Jan 17 #117
PayPal and EBay should cover anyone just cause he supplies a tracking do you think is he's sold 100+ and everyone of them are claiming back they will brush it over their shoulder? No... they won't
zombrex
8 Jan 17 1 #118
lots of £50's he hasn't, and i'm not trying to be condescending.

A guy on AVF bought some way before this deal was posted, seller said it was sent by courier on Friday when asked which courier he wouldn't say and refunded a few conversations later.

We are all here for the same reason cheap deals would hate to see fellow hukd members being scammed through a deal. They say fortune favours the brave and best of luck even if i was going to receive them i wouldn't feel comfortable redeeming them on my account now due to seller going all decepticon on us and not telling you how he manages to source 160+ £50 cards despite being known for selling £20/£25

My theory he's using those text credit sites using dodgy funded sims
zombrex
8 Jan 17 #119

zombrex
8 Jan 17 1 #121
tbf, we only have your word and the_geezer that he's kosher due to past experiences.

I've not seen anyone else in the thread confirm receipt of a working code.

People being told they will receive Monday, mine said Tuesday , one being told was sent by courier on Friday buyer asked for courier details wasn't given and refunded after kicking up a fuss. Emails about fraud activity due to being posted here.

i'm not being funny but the guy you dealt with in the past isn't the same guy you are dealing with now.

Come on if you told a buyer something was sent, would you refund them or give them details.

Maybe he's stalling for time waiting for more payments before doing a shoot. makes sense really refund a few that asks so the account isn't frozen by twitchy buyers.

When i've sold digital content it's been sent out within hours via email never had one chargeback , this guys sitting on thousands of pounds and not one person in the two deals posted has confirmed receipt.

I've done the same amount of sales as this guy (volume not value) in a weekend , all buyers had their items within hours of buying.

The guy's shady as **** imho

Been watching this thread throughout the day. Didn't make any purchases but this definitely seems fishy.

By the looks of it they've reduced the price from the initial listing of £36 to £33. Previous feedback seems to be for previous code sales so who knows.

according to the other thread 270+ have been sold since Friday, notice a few of the buyers are no longer registered users weird to buy something and close down your account before receiving your purchase huh?

Either this guy has bit off more than he can chew and is having a logistical nightmare or has hit his annual limit for withdrawels so is refunding some so he can cashout.

has over a 1000 feedback since 2015 for items under £20 does a quarter of that in one weekend he's well ramping up the workload might explain the change of address.

Anyone actual googled it on google maps?
slayermatt
8 Jan 17 #132
Interestingly those who are no longer registered seemed to have ordered at least 2 codes.
Address coincides with a studio flat nearish leeds uni

If the seller is due to post these all today via recorded delivery surely he's going to be at the post office all day with this influx of orders?
The_Ride
9 Jan 17 #134
So I bought one of these codes last Wednesday. It was marked as dispatched on Thursday.

When I bought my code, I noticed it said it would be delivered by Courier & that I would have to sign for it. Upon checking my order later that night, it said the item had been relisted.

After checking this, I noticed new listings were up saying that the codes would now be emailed after 36-48 hours (again details were amended several times along with prices etc).

I contacted the seller several times over the weekend to ask how I was receiving the code & he said that the original batch were being sent by courier. I never asked for the code by email but he did mention that codes could not be emailed until they had records of me signing for the delivery.

Like others have mentioned, I'm not sure what this guy is trying to pull but something definitely seems off.

I don't know whether to wait & see if anything arrives in the post today or just contact the seller again and politely request a refund. Which reminds me, he did say I was entitled to a refund over the weekend which begs another question, why would you refund someone if the item had already been posted?

After reading this thread, I have to agree that something seems very odd about this whole thing and I'm now worried that even if something does show up today, it will be a blank piece of paper which makes me reluctant to sign for anything!

Seems a long way to go to defraud someone. Send a blank letter by recorded delivery. Surely a fraudster wouldn't even bother going that that far before doing a runner? It could be that the dude is just taking extreme measures to ensure that buyers ain't trying to stiff him. It's all unusual.

I suppose so. It still seems a peculiar way to do business if you ask me.

The strangest thing is that I must've bought one of the original batch for £36.50. I'm meant to be getting mine by courier yet there's people who've bought after me at £33-£36 who've had their codes either by courier or email before me and have left him positive feedback?

I'd say wait for a couple of days & see what happens. You'll get a refund one way or another & theres nothing concrete to say you won't get your code.
NeeWii
9 Jan 17 #151
The issue is that no-one has been able to say with absolute certainty that a refund would be given by PayPal, or eBay. All accounts of previous similar transactions/disputes are anecdotal at best where there's no concrete guidance in the PayPal terms of use.

I'm folding - I was in for three cards, but it's been over 48 hours and no contact whatsoever. Refund requested unless codes can be delivered imminently, and will raise an issue with PayPal in the morning if I haven't heard back. Fingers crossed on the refund.
slayermatt
10 Jan 17 #152
Honestly I'm sure some will get codes but the fact of the matter is I doubt the seller had access to the 200 odd codes he sold. If he is "legit" as such I reckon he's holding out for enough refunds then will magically dispense what he does actually have once the majority have pulled out. Either way its not worth the headache and I'm not sure I really wish to give him my money anymore after how he's handled it.

Asked for a refund and received this message, also got dispatched at 2am, strange.

First and foremost would like to apologise for the delay and inconveniencey caused. We take full responsibility and understand this is completely unacceptable.

Our listing was linked to a website (hotukdeals) without our knowledge. This created an uncontrollable and very high traffic than usual. Together with this traffic were unexpected high volume of fraudulent transactions

Therefore ebay has strictly advice that the orders be sent ONLY via post(recorded delivery) for Wednesday 11th to safeguard both buyer and seller accounts instead of the email as originally listed.

We are in the verge of despatching your order however, tracking details will be uploaded when our courier has provided these details.

As compensation for the inconveniencey we will send you £15 voucher without any additional cost.
Please send us a message if you wish to cancel and refunds will be actioned immediately. Please note if you do cancel ebay/paypal would likely review the cancellation as a result of this purchase

Thanks for your patience.

I just got my refund. I'd be surprised if the seller is from outside the U.K., it looks like they recently made a purchase from Argos. If the seller is legit then hopefully they've learned a lesson on how to structure an eBay listing and to only sell what they are comfortable handling in any given period of time. Good luck with getting the codes guys, but the additional £15 just smells like that they were obtained via fraudulent means.

Dear Customer

I've been away but noticed that both my ebay and paypal accounts have been hacked. I'm reading messages of failed delivery promises, tracking numbers, emails etc.

Please, CAN EVERYONE WITH AN ORDER RAISE A REFUND CASE via eBay or paypal. Ebay and paypal have been made aware but I'm unable to action any refund whiles the account is compromised.

RAISE REFUNDS VIA EBAY or PAYPAL ASAP to get your money back.

Looks like the seller has bottled it as eBay have confirmed that the sellers account is live and there is no record of him calling up and reporting that his account has been compromised in any way. EBay said if he had done that they would have given refunds immediately.

nublets2k
11 Jan 17 #211
They should do, it was sold as a physical item. It even says it's protected by eBay's money back guarantee on the listing.
slliw
11 Jan 17 1 #212
They didn't question the refund but were saying I would have to wait till like the 17th before they could open a dispute. In the end they passed me to paypal who have escalated it and said they have frozen the funds from the seller. Next steps will be for them to contact the seller and ask for him to refund the amount. If by the 21st the seller has not responded then you get a refund the next day.
Again paypal confirmed that the seller has not reported to them that the account had been compromised.

Looks like all you can do is try to contact the seller. Why is it that buyers can screw you over when you sell to them and sellers can screw you over when you buy from them?
The uninitiated in these scams are always worse off.
He probably did this instead of taking out a payday loan.
His feedback is going to be decimated!

Here is how to open a dispute in PayPal: 1. Log in to your PayPal account. 2. Near the bottom of the page, under 'More about your account', click Resolve a problem in our Resolution Centre. 3. Click Dispute a Transaction. 4. Select the button beside the transaction you want to dispute, then click Continue. 5. Select ‘Item dispute’, click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions

If you face any issues while filing the case for the item, you can also contact PayPal at 0800 358 7911. This is a Freephone number from a UK landline  8:00 am – 10:00 pm Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 9:00 pm Saturday; 9:00 am – 9:00 pm Sunday
