Thirty five years in the music business; a rich canon of work left behind; countless stories of his charitable works that have emerged after his death - would that all our lives be so wasted.

Might as well be the first so far to point out what a waste of a life to end up with the self-inflicted problem of drug addiction...... can't we have music idols who don't use drugs ?
Yes I know some great works of literature were supposedly written by drug addicted authors, but with all the media headlines when someone famous dies of an overdose, you'd think most of them would avoid using any drug stronger than caffeine - no it isn't boring either.

George Micheal lived in the village were I grew up, yes he had troubles but who of us don't!! There was so much he did in our village that no one knew about. He was much loved by the villagers R.I.P to a lovely man x

I really liked Wham!s sunshiney pop (of course they couldn't maintain that forever as they matured into men), lots of happy memories.
GM was not perfect but he always came across as sincere, self-deprecating and self-aware (maybe too much). I think he needed some stabilising influence in his life - whatever that may have been.
My superfan sister was/is absolutely GUTTED :disappointed:

Back in the room: - This is a fab album with some seriously great production and arrangements (yes, real horn sections!)
Shows an extraordinary range for what amounts to little over 2 years of music.

It would seem not, and then they act as a very bad example for others. The problem is, the law is not enforced, and consequently, society thinks it is acceptable and even beneficial to take these substances. It is still illegal to take drugs (heroin, cannabis, etc.) but, for the most part, the police are not interested in enforcing the law of the land. When you think about it, that is actually quite scary. The police, without any act of Parliament, created the cannabis warning. Consequently, they have chosen not to enforce the actual law. You may or may not agree that people should be freely allowed to take cannabis, but, regardless of that, it is very worrying that the police should pick and choose which laws they do and do not enforce. What happened if they decide to stop enforcing burglary, rape or any other law?

Self inflicted yes but the man obviously needed help to become non dépendent. It's an illness. We all know someone who drinks to much etc. Just to say I am not a lilly livered legalise drugs person etc as they should be punished very harshly. I'm no great fan of George but he was talented and it's such a waste of a life.

A troubled musical genius is still a musical genius.
You have a point there. But keep in mind these music idols live in an alternate universe. Their lives are micromanaged by countless minions, they rarely have family around them to keep them grounded, and EVERYONE in their circles do drugs. S'ppose it's kind of an escape from life.
On another note, the 'Final' album is probably the best compendium of Wham! songs you can get on CD. It includes 'Careless Whisper' missing in some of the other albums, and GM had personally remixed some of the tracks. A lovely man all around - shame about the drugs and toilet rap - and a fitting way to remember his legacy.

Bizarre! How did he possibly have a wasted life? He probably shagged more than you or I. He made more money than you or I will ever make at 80. He travelled to more countries than you or I ever will.. etc etc

Listen to you whinge out there, hijacking a thread!
We all know doing anything in excess is bad for you, with exception of drug's (Your **** if you do them), The law is a issue, and it can't make up it's mind. Until the law is made equally, in the respect that judges give the same sentence fitting, for particular criminality. There is only a small minority that chose to do things like this, but ones who do chose to cause a issue for others, should be dealt with harshly.
Sad to hear of he's passing. A legend, and wham, well don't you always feel good when you hear one of there tracks.

Can be a minefield when looking for proper oil, the only trustworthy one i find is a charity foundation based in south africa. I dont know of any UK based makers of good oil.

Every life on earth has an Endocanebanoid System, which was discovered in the mid 1990's by the Scientific community. It regulates all our other systems e.g. Nervous System/Digestive System/Cardiac System etc.
Every life, including humans NEED CBD & THC to nourish our Endocanebanoid Recptors, just like we NEED Vitamin D or Iron or Vitamin E to nourish our bodies.
CBD taken by itself in the form of CBD Oil or CBD Balm, which are freely available online in this country & is derived from Hemp (legal) Seeds.
CBD taken by itself is Non-Pschoactive & does NOT make you high. THC does make you high & not allowed in this country, unless under 0.2% strength-which Hemp Seeds are.
MHRA have now started to regulate this industry as they have realised people are finding taking CBD Oil is beneficial & treating it almost like a medicine. This is because they do jot want Huge Pharmaceutical Companies losing business, as people are awakening to the Truth.
To summarise, not all "drugs" are bad & hence the reason why the Police have started issuing Warnings to people who consume CBD rich Hemp/Cannabis in very small quantities.
Please feel free to Google the above or attend the lectures at the "Product Earth Exhibition" to learn more.

sorry but you are wrong, illegal drugs have been with us as long as alcohol, have you not heard of the opium wars? 1839-42. the victorians were big on opium dens as well. there have been mind altering substances since the dawn of humans. including all the drug taking in 60's with lsd ect, just saying, alcohol and drugs just as bad as each other with harmful effects

I was a huge fan of George Michael and went to see him live a couple of times, but let's face it he hadn't released anything decent in over a decade.

Not entirely fair given the issues he has had over those years. And he never was the most prolific of artists.
If, as rumoured, he was working on new material for release this year, we just have the knowledge that it might have been absolutely incredible - instead we might never get the chance to hear it at all.

Alcohol has been an intimate part of our society for millenia - illegal drugs (cannabis, for example), have not. If we were to suddenly discover alcohol today, chances are, we would ban it too. Also, the licencing laws for alcohol could, and should, be more restrictive than they are currently.

Why is it not "fair" to say he hadn't released anything decent for years? Regardless of the reasons why, it's true!

Or execute innocent people with impunity?
Lot of soap boxing for a Wham! thread. I've never taken a recreational "drug" in my life (I'm using my claw hands as quotation marks as alcohol is a recreational drug really) but as been pointed out he achieved more than most, and rich addicts are rarely ever a huge problem to society. Maybe its his 'lifestyle' you have an issue with really? O_o
