Is the UK version of Season 1 still cut? I remember I bought the US discs because some of the scenes had been trimmed/ removed.

I wouldn't worry too much about blu ray episodes of TWD. They are specifically filmed to keep the "atmosphere" (so I've read) You'll see extras and interviews in blu ray, but the episodes aren't.

Of course they're in high definition, they were shot on 16mm film (35mm special effects). They may look grittier than glossy shows shot with HD cameras, but they're leaps and bounds over a standard definition shows from a few years back.
