I took out a 12 month Contract with Virgin Media November 2015, did not want to commit to a further contract until I knew I would be working in the area so my payments went up to £40.48 last month when out of contract.
I called today to see if they had any retention deals as I was considering going to an other provider.
The best offer they could make was £31pm for 6 months and then £34 for the next 6 months (12 month Contract) for 50mb.
I said that that was too high and I would look to find the best deal from other cheaper suppliers before calling them back to cancel.
The man I spoke to was very helpful and after I had mentioned that my current 50mb struggled to stream tv, he did some checks and speed checks but could not find any issues (other than I was downloading about 6 times the average).
he then said there was a full house bundle with 200mb, tivo and weekend calls he could do for £35 all in, as I was an existing customer. I declined and he said he would put a note on my file.
I looked about and was surprised to see that all prices were well up on last year and I was going to struggle to get anything much below £30pm.
I called back and said I had called previously and was just double checking before leaving them to go to another provider.
The young lad I spoke to said the best offer he could do was as above;£31pm for 6 months and then £34 for the next 6 months (12 month Contract). I then mentioned the previous full bundle the previous gentleman had offered me. the young lad said there was an email that had just been sent through and he would need to read it. he then came back and when i hummed and haa'd he offered £20 that would more than cover the 14.99 activation charge.
I then received the following confirmation:

About your new package total
With Virgin Media, you always pay for your services one month in advance. So if you decide to change your package part-way through a month, your bill needs to catch up. Here's what happens. As soon as the change takes effect on your account, you start paying the new price for your package and the next bill produced after that date will reflect that.

I got this deal as a new customer. Walked in to virgin media store as I was looking to change from Sky, was offered this same bundle for 35. Heat added as it's a great deal, but not exclusive to retentions.

Aren't retention deals based on an individual basis? Or are they applicable to anyone and what would another customer ask for?

could be one of many things, we had techs, then principal techs camped in our house for 6 months... After years of problems... Ended up with their top 2 guys turn up with a diagnostics machine, took them 2 mins to find the cable to our grid was missing... To find our cable was coming from a neighbours grid, was the wrong cable and was knotted... So It was like a fire engine fitted with a garden Hose, that's kinked and trying to put the London fire out... Once the cable was sorted... We still had nonstop problems with buffering and the utter pants tivo boxes... Sky = cheaper and near zero problems, no buffering either!

I've been with virgin 4 years now and my bill is now £48pm. I only get 100mbs and that's all. no TV or anything. been thinking of leaving a while as that seems very expensive what I'm paying and your post has just confirmed how expensive my package is!

I phoned vermin media to see if they had any offers as my contract runs out in Feb. I was having mega problems with my router disconnecting up to 10 times a day. I'm on my 7th router. As a gesture of goodwill they sent engineer number 6 to have a look and yes there was another fault so I was given a free router. I was then offered 6 months xl TV at a discount and 6 months 150 mb broadband at a discount. I confirmed that I wasn't entering into a new contract before I accepted to be told yes I will put a note on your account. When I spoke to the vermin rep two days ago I was told.... Very sorry we can't offer you any deals as you signed up to a 12 month contract in August when you received your new router..... I went berserk as you can imagine and things them to check back all the calls.... Needless to say nothing as usual has been done and I've been told if I go to a lower package it will cost me more..... How can that be. I can't wait to leave vermin media. They are a disgrace and their equipment is rubbish and is full of faults...... Worst customer service ever.... If there ate any vermin reps reading this ease feel free to contact me I would be more than happy to discuss anything. I'm actually thinking about paying to leave early I am that disgusted with their tactics. Sky here I come.

Tried this earlier as was paying £86 a month for 200mb broadband talk weekends full house TV no movies or sports tivo + additional box called to enquire about upgrade and ll they would offer me was what I currently had for £66 a month, I said that they were doing the limited edition bundle for £55 all in movies full house TV line rental and 200mb, I said how was that fair for new customer you give them everything and for existing customer there's nothing? After going round the houses he would not offer anything said I would move to sky he more or less started bad mouthing them as broadband was not as fast etc.... In the end had to cancel and gave my 30 day notice, not offered anything :disappointed:

got this deal offered end of november after saying i'm leaving for the 'black friday' sky deal. will be playing the game again come next black friday, but will be asking them to chuck in their new v6 TiVo box for free - which is currently extortionate to upgrade to from the old TiVo box.

As many have mentioned above, i rang a few days ago and got nothing (well the best he could do was knock a few quid off) I am out of contract too. I asked that there are some really good new customer offers and he basically said "can't match those offers" lol I really don't want to leave as I must admit the service I have had has been very good for the past 7 or so years I have been with them. However the prices seem to go higher and higher each year and my loyalty discount actually dropped last time! I have read that if you don't get a decent offer first time, try again after a few days, I will and if I don't get any luck I will serious have to look to move to sky and BT.

Oh btw if you do decide to move to sky from virgin you get a 50% discount.

Currently moving from Sky to Virgin. Initially signed up to Full House with Sky Cinema for £39 pm. Family member (who has Virgin) and I also received £50 credit each as introduction offer, bringing cost down to just under £35 pm. I phoned Virgin recently, prior to install date and made out I thought I was receiving the new V6 Tivo box and was offered 2 boxes without much discussion. Virgin appear to be offering high discounts to attract new customers.

I was thinking of using tor myself and when I did some looking.around... apparently downloading tor itself gets you on the naughty list, regardless of what you use it for.
that put me off, Including how they got the silk road underground market where you could buy various types of things not legally available (ahem ahem) , they were all using tor, but got caught some clever means.
so it's not foolproof and may get you on a naughty list anyway.
just a beware to the community before we all get downloading tor...

I've just come out of there 12 month top 200mb package because of work in my area which was only supposed to last 3 weeks but lasted 7 months of which we were all capped at 5mb.

VM broke so many promises to me that the cancellation team were so apologetic to me I had there field engineer ring me wanting to know names and how many times I had rang because the 3 weeks minor work in my area was major work and I should have been told.

plus just look on Twitter at all the negative comments there getting so sign up at your peril.

I have details of a virgin media retention guy that would offer new customers (who havent been on VM for last 6 months..or you can sign up your spouse as a new customer) a deal where you can get 50 meg broadband..and line rental...all included for around £17.50 per month with basic freesat tv possibly..all of this on a 12 month contract. Even better, if you say you have been recommended (i would love to be mentioned) each of you get £50 credit. Theres no telephone number for this guy as he is in an outbound call centre. you have to email him for him to call you...sounds dodgy? Its not..i promise

Someone came to my door and offered me this (200Mbps + TV channels, 12m contract for £35 per month) as an area-specific black Friday offer, but they kept cancelling the install date - coming today finally almost 2 months later. They will call you back between now and your end date and offer you an opening deal - be very polite, speak calmly and say thanks anyway but what I really want is the deal for £35.00 - they may offer you there and then or say we cant offer that so your contract will terminate on agreed date. Stick with it and they will call you back again and as long as you are calm and polite you will get your deal! Just been through it and they rang me back twice after I refused their initial offer. Good Luck.

Saw this deal on here and was shocked how low the price was as I have same deal and it costs me nearly £79/mth. Rang Virgin to see if I, ( a 30 yr customer) could have the same deal. I was told Virgin wouldn't match this deal as it included the addition a new service, (shown by addition of activation fee) and it would be a new customer. I am now checking out the opposition.

I have broadband with VM and TV with Sky with various deals to make it worthwhile and funny to say VM actually called me with some automated message offering exactly this a week or two ago with me having to press one or something to be put through to someone to accept which i did not feel like doing at that point as the deal I have right now is just £25 for 200mb broadband plus anytime calls and a special add on which gives me 1000 mins to call any number (incl mobiles and international calls) and did not want to loose that for the moment as had it for the last couple of years plus line rental prepaid on top.

Been a customer over 10 years currently have a 500Gb Tivo box TV XL, phone with 0870 numbers and up to 200MB broadband.

Didn't realise we were paying quite so much and they had sneaked the charges up! Just checked the broadband speed and am getting 5.84mb download and 11.88mb upload.

And the privilege of paying for this has only been £78 a month lol!!!

We never really watch the TV as the Tivo box is painfully slow and we have catch up, Netflix, Amazon and Now TV and use the phone once a month if that.

Just phoned up and explained all this and would like to cancel. All the guy offered me is UP TO 200mb broadband for £40 a month. I told him that our speeds were nowhere near that and he then criticised me for not phoning up to get it sorted!

Why would I need to if it works? Told him that it was still way too much and others charge a lot less than £40.

Then told me that we are high users of broadband, the average user uses 70GB a month and you used over 400GB last month. Seeing that it's unlimited that information was completely irrelevant.

Went on to say that no other provider could give me anywhere near their speeds - of a whopping 5.8mb!!

Suffice to say I continued with the cancellation. Long term loyalty appears to account for nothing.

Definitely going to leave unless I get offered a considerably better deal.

Great for those who have got a decent deal but Virgin's policy and attitude is terrible.

That's on 5G Wi-Fi to my laptop too. it's always over 200Mbps on Ethernet with pings as low as 10ms. The Virgin tech guy was salivating over my connection, saying my area was below 25% capacity. I imagine it would be less stable in a heavily built up area with a lot of customers.

Just got of the phone after 1 hour of ringing. I was told that offer is only for customers upgrading their package, going from bb & phone to bb, phone and TV... I already have all 3 but out of contract. So she couldn't do It.

I then told her to take TV off my package then but she told me my bill will go up in price if I do that. And I won't be able to upgrade to this new offer for 3 months and by that time the offer might not be available.

I then asked to give my 30 day notice of leaving and she was having non of it, saying I won't get speeds like ours anywhere else blah blah, also if I do that the technician will be booked in for 30 days time and I cannot stop it.

I didn't go threw with it because the misses can't go without net and couldn't be bothered with the hassle of changing over.
Any suggestions people? As I'm paying 47 for 150mb and m+ TV

Has anyone got any decent deals with Sky lately? I'm out of contract, been offered everything half price... all normal channels, movies, sports (not bt sport), box sets, films and HD plus extra box for £55pm. Has anyone recently managed to beat that without friends and family?

Phone retentions and give your 30 days notice. They will most likely make you a better offer to what you have. Just go ahead and give notice. Get the wife to call up as a new customer. Quote limited edition movies bundle at £39 per month. This includes 200mb broadband, telephone line rental, talk weekends, tv xl and sky cinema all on a 12 month contract. Plus you will get superhub 3 and v6 box free. Also use refer a friend quoting your current account. They might charge you £14.99 connection but this will be taken off your £50 refer a friend credit.

Looked around and can get sky package for a bit cheaper than virgin will offer me, slower broadband but of course more TV and new q box + 75 or 125 referal. Virgin will not move so tempted to cancel, however ntlworld email tied to everything, anyone gone through the pain of moving their main email and any easy way to do or suggestions to future proof for next time?

Thanks very much, excellent offer for me!

I was coming to the end of a 12 month legacy broadband and phone deal (100 Mbps but they gave me free upgrade to 150 Mbps) where I was paying approx. 37 GBP per month.

I just called and asked what they could do if I wanted to include TV, and they gave me the offer straight away of the package at 35 GBP per month, plus 14.99 GBP set up fee.

They did point out that there would be a steep change after 12 months, but that they would look at another discount then...

So I'm saving 2 GBP per month, getting a speed increase on the broadband plus TIVO and xltv package that I didn't have before.

Note I am one of the lucky ones in a Virgin area without broadband problems. I have been averaging over 150 Mbps on speed tests no problem. But then I helped them pull the cable into the house so I know it is not a mess!

They told me the contract would come into effect as soon as I activate the TIVO box (once delivered), and the last few weeks of the old contract would be cancelled.

sounds terrible, you probably live in an over utilised area. they know your speeds and could be proactive and contact customers for help if it was an issue with your equipment. but that would be crazy in today's broadband market. as there's not much choice, but BTs network maybe better than what you get with virgin up to 80 meg. try https://www.uswitch.com/broadband/compare/ and http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/speed-checker?s_cid=con_FURL_broadband/speedtest to see what speeds you should get

Just called retentions. Were paying £120 for Big Kahuna Sports, with extra box and talk unlimited. He offered me VIP upgrade which is only pence more than paying already. No new boxes. I got the same pack as OP's. Rang retention team. The lady could only offered me £34/month for 70MB broadband and Talk weekends. I asked for disconnection. Then got the other phone from loyalty team on Friday. I was told the best offer is £30/month for the same package. I agreed it. However, as I read this thread. I was shocked! Made a phone call 5mins ago. Just told the lady wanna upgrade the Full house bundle, she would like to offer it straight way, also told me the offer ends tomorrow. Sweet! Thanks OP!

Just off the phone to retentions (exciting sat night I know!) and was initially offered a fiver reduction on my current BB only package on new 12 month contract and again told that the £18 50mb deal was for new customers only.

Enquired about the £39 Full House with movies bundle and was told that it was no longer available, but was then offered the same £35 deal as the OP. I pushed for a V6 box but they wouldn't budge at the £55 quid installation fee (reduced by £90 already apparently). If I can get a Superhub 3 included with the installation I am sorely tempted.

Was also told this offer will probably get pulled some time next week.

I also had to agree to the V6 "upgrade" for a fee but he did ask me to confirm that I had a Superhub 3, which I do. So I would have thought you should not have any problems getting one. Its worth a try !

Here is my experience:

Called the UK Call Centre today (they closed at 17:00). Was told the £39 offer only applied over Christmas, only in areas they were cabling up with new cable, as a "thank you" to compensate for the disruption. Rep claimed even calling back and speaking to anyone else, I would be told the same.

Was also told the Full House Limited Edition Movies for £55 was ending tonight (SUN 15 JAN), and after 5pm I would have to speak to the Philippines Call Centre... haven't tried them yet.

Just spent 30 mins on Live Chat on the VM website, but the click-through on this HUKD page clicks through to a 4G SIM deal, so the agent couldn't do anything. Offered me £55 deal, which I rejected. Offered me £50 Webchat Exclusive credit, but that's not worth much (would get the same via Refer a Friend), so rejected that too.

Could try in-store tomorrow, though there's a chance that even the "limited edition" offer will have expired by then too.

TLDR: they aren't trying hard at all to win me as a New Customer (never had VM before) :disappointed:

Yeah, I thought so - not even "meet you half way" or any other sweetener.

I've read that one's cancellation has 30 days on it so might be worth hanging in and waiting for Retention to call you with an offer...

I got my bill yesterday for the 150mb internet, full house TV (XL) (1 x Tivo box, 1 x old V-Box) and phone with weekend calls) and it was just over £97. Around £83 last month including the £5 charge for not paying by DD.
Just rang them up to cancel and was offered much the same for around £74 (£70 without the phone I don't use).
Woman didn't seem too fussed either way so they're going to send me some packaging apparently to send things back - thought a van stopping would be easier.

Have had no calls from retentions. Not really that bothered as we only need the internet and if VM treat their long term customers with that much contempt would literally rather go with anyone else that can provide broadband and reasonable customer service.

Put in my cancellation at the weekend. The sky deals are good value at the moment, free fibre unlimited & setup, £100 mastercard & £110 cashback on the bundle we require. I'm not fussed if retentions get in touch. Will put on here if they get on touch & what they offer.
The rep I spoke to to cancel was terrible. Very argumentative & downright rude. I wanted to stay but after that call now adamant about leaving. Telling me blatant lies that no other provider can give us service to meet our requirements due to us watching netflix most evenings. (and that's only on one device at a time, apparently according to rep only 200mb connection is suitable for that. He also tried using how if will effect my family as some sort of leverage several times.)

Anyone interested in a New Customer update?

After 30 mins on phone last night (no deal), another 45 mins with Live Chat (no deal; £50 credit offered), I just came back from an HOUR in-store today.

TLDR? iPad says "no" :cough:

Staff were very nice, but ultimately ANY deal wasn't in the computer. Stuck at £55 for Full House 200 with Movies. Offer Sky Sports free for 3 months, but still £55 a month. Couldn't do second V6 box without paying £49 + £7.50 per month (!). VIP package comes with two boxes, but was £85 a month.

Suggested I come back tomorrow when Branch Manager is in. "If there's any available deal / code, he'll try. Otherwise, there's nothing". Nobody had any idea how others (above) are getting deals, as they came up dry for me :disappointed:

Gonna call Sky tonight to see what's on offer inc Fibre

Sounds as if you had the same guy I spoke to. Not sure what kind of pay deal he is on but got put through to him after waiting ages to phone to cancel and then was put on to him so am assuming retentions.

You'd of thought that they would employ some kind of "common sense" and loyalty for long term customers. Apparently not. They just tell you that you are already getting excellent service and price when you quite clearly aren't.

I'd rather speak to a woman on there. The guys seem to sound very fey and like bitchy queens.

Just my experience with the blokes I have spoken to on VM - there may be some non effeminate reasonable men answering phones for a living?!

Ha. The one I spoke to was very northern & very effeminate. At the end of the call his anger level was through the roof as he had failed to change my mind or get me to believe his scripted lies. I hope I contribute greatly towards him not hitting his target this month.
I first called the weekend previous & was immediately offered current package for approx £15 a month cheaper by a much nicer chap but it wasn't enough. When I recalled a week later they had no record of this offer which got my back up right from the start.

Troll.

VM are well aware of this "deal" as had a lengthy conversation with some guy who didn't listen to a word I said and prices went up and down like a virginal bride's nightie.

Asked if I could have the same deal as OP and pointed out we have been long term - over a decade - customers. Went off to speak to "manager / play with his maggot"

Came back with an offer for £55. Ended up telling him to stop wasting my time and put cancellation through.

For what you get with Virgin as it all goes down the same line everyone should get quick broadband and all the TV channels apart from the premium ones like Sky sports and Movies.

It doesn't cost them anymore to send all or limited services to your home.

One day the stranglehold will be released!!
The_Pope
17 Jan 17 #136
Sadly, today is not that day... *another* hour in-store, this time with the Branch Manager. He was extremely nice, very sympathetic and certainly believable when he said "if there was a way, I would give it to you". Unfortunately (for me) there appears to be zero discretion at this level. Their iPad configurator is king and literally the only discount was the existing Line Rental Saver that offers about £2 per month off if you pay £196 up-front for the year.

For those keeping track, and ignoring the £2 discount for Line Rental Saver that applies to any bundle, that's still £55 a month for 200mb Full House with Movies, or £36 a month 200mb internet and 40 basic channels (worse than Freeview!) with Movies HD.

Now to start the whole thing all over again with Sky (!), and pop back in-store after 01 FEB just in case there are any new offers for the new month.

Free is good but it's just a case of playing companies off against one another.

When someone is getting the same or better package as you for less than half the price, why should I pay £97 when they're paying £40? It's not as if VM are coming out with "oh look, we've just noticed Mr Smith is paying too much, we'll reduce his costs out of the goodness of our hearts". If you don't put the effort in, you'll be ripped off left, right and centre.
It doesn't pay to be loyal. Car insurance renewals, energy bills etc. Look around and you'll find cheaper deals elsewhere and/or suddenly the company can offer you a deal that they had no intention of doing before.

My parents were with Lloyds for house insurance and £900+ a year. Went in to see about cancelling it / moving elsewhere and suddenly exactly the same insurance was £400 and if they hadn't done that, they would still be paying over the odds for years to come.

I have car insurance with Churchill (9+ years of no claim) and every year it goes up and up through automatic renewal. This year I'm going to look elsewhere as I'm sure I can do better.

Had a missed call yesterday that seems to be from Virgin. Wonder if they're trying to offer anything or just a "sure you don't want to stay / what's wrong" type call?
SweeneyUK

Been with Virgin almost 10 years and out of contract for years too. Every year the price for my minimal contract increases and I'm now paying £47 for a phone I haven't used it 6 months (plugged it in to dial 150 tonight), broadband I use lightly and essentially Freeview TV channels. The good offers aren't available right now to anyone with all 3 services. It was pretty much a "computer says no" call ie a waste of my breath for both of us and makes me think VM not bothered about customer retention. I have given my 30 days notice but I could quite happily survive months using mobile data (until I need to print something and have to find a cable! Haha).
I'm not expecting a call from them but might leave my phone plugged back in just in case based on what others have posted here.....

That's what you get for being loyal - and stupid for not negotiating and letting them rip us off - guilty!

According to guy I spoke to customer loyalty means absolutely nothing, they know all about this deal as he quoted it to me LOL

Best thing to do is leave a company that treats long term customers 10+ years like this.

I certainly am and wouldn't recommend Virgin to anyone.

Like most things online more people are likely to leave a bad review if something goes wrong than if everything is fine. Virgin, either you offer your long term customers the same £35 package as others on here or hurry up and send the boxes to pick up your useless Tivo box ASAP

(Apparently I am on the "up to" 200mb - don't get any more than 10 so not exactly a great service)!!!

I always cancel on chat by saying I'm moving abroad, it's much quicker and easier this way and you don't get all the silly offers trying to keep you. A week later I got a text saying if I decide not to move I can keep my current services for half price. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to all bundles.

I then emailed my contact at Virgin and sorted a new deal out, which I've just confirmed and getting upgraded to on Saturday. I got this deal with extras and I already have player TV, you really need to cancel to get the better deals.

I'm now getting:

Full House TV
Sky Cinema
BT Sports
200MB Broadband
Talk Weekend
Caller ID
08 Numbers
V6 Box
Second V6 Box
Superhub 3 (Currently have 2)

Total is £46.50 a month, no extra charges for the boxes or installation - happy with that

I said i would have a think and call back, next day spoke to another agent and advised i thought i would be getting V6 box in the first place, after speaking to his manager waived the charges for the V6 and will be sending engineer out to setup.

Just had a phone call from Virgin.

After a myriad of security details, got offered:

Full House TV less BT Sports and the Disney Channel - different package?
100meg broadband (down from 150meg)
I assume the same weekend calls phone that I don't use.
£56/month.
(Better than the £97 they charged me this month, up from £84 last month but a downgrade)

Said I was still looking at options and he came back with "I'll knock £20 off your first month's bill".
Still said I was thinking about it and going to look at other options and it went up to £30.

Mentioned the broadband and got the "we're faster than Sky" spiel although I want the broadband but ideally as fast as possible. Handy when I need to maximise it.

It's a start but as there's someone in the house who watches BT Sport on occasion, probably not something I would ideally want to lose.

As a new customer, I can get the Full House bundle + V6 box + 200meg + weekend phone for £55 and that would be a far better option for me. Maybe not as good as the £39 or whatever deals, but for a year, a saving of £40 a month.
Might push for that. If not, someone else in the household could possibly join as a new customer and get that deal?

@Pezza2u: That's a decent deal: that's the Full House Limited Edition with Movies (£55 a month) but the second V6 box "costs" £49.99 PLUS £7.50 a month i.e. £62.50 per month. Nice one! Wish they'd give that to me!

@Xenole: they can do better! Even as a regular website customer you'd get all the TV inc. BT Sport, plus Movies, and 200(!) internet for £55 a month. Nevermind that others are getting lower-than-retail (See above)

Yes that's the bundle I've got but for the £39 they were doing it for customers without TV a couple of weeks a go, I currently have M TV! It's still available but you need to find the right person to deal with.

I've added another V6 box for £7.50 and have caller ID and 08 numbers for free. I tried getting unlimited calls for free too but they couldn't do it.

You do need to give your cancellation though and not just say you want it cheaper. This is what I was told by the guy I deal with, cancel online by saying you're moving abroad and then you can get a better deal.

I've been with Sky for the last 2 years but they won't get near the Virgin price. Even if they did it would be on the old Sky+ box and not Q. I was getting fed up with only being able to record 2 programmes at the same time, now I can record 12!! lol

19 Jan 17 #157
If you do that then topcashback are doing £220 on the movie bundle at the moment. Although you'll be paying £55 a month it's the equivalent of £36. I was going to do that if I couldn't sort a deal but I had loads of hassle transferring my email addresses and phone number last time we changed accounts.

If your husband has had an account in his name before I'm not 100% sure they'll honour it. It depends whether they view him as a new customer or returning one.

Thanks that's a good deal! If I can't get a good deal I'll go through top cash back. I don't have a phone or email address with them so I'm not fussed about that personally and luckily my husband has never had an account with them. He lived with his parents before buying this place and I transferred my virgin from my old address to here. Just had enough now paying £32 a month for 70mb internet only and £38 to sky for a family package of tv.

Virgin have decided to change my package over to the inferior one that was offered and not accepted on the phone yesterday. Going to have to call them and get them to change it back, be annoyed with them and tell them I'm definitely continuing with the cancellation now.

Added: Rang them, and should have my original package back until my disconnection date of the 18th Feb. Didn't seem that fussed about offering me anything else, gave me the spiel again about Virgin being faster internet wise etc.

Is the best tactic still to phone up and cancel, refuse their initial offers and then wait for them to call back with their final offer a few days before cut-off?

At Christmas.left sky and joined Virgin Full house bundle package for £30 a month. 49.50 upfront as I upgraded to the new v6 box. 12month deal. Had the new box installed on the 5th of January.

23 Jan 17 #164
I had my install done on Saturday and love the new boxes, they are 100 times faster than the Tivo, no lag at all, everything is instant! I've not had my first bill yet but just to show you that this deal is possible here's a photo of what I've got.

I still can't quite fathom how the system allowed them to offer this (though it's Retention not New Customer). EVERY time I beg for a second V6 box, even ignoring the £49.95 charge, there's no getting around the £7.50 a month fee, which is £90 a year. The agents sound very sympathetic, like they know that's crazy, but they can't strip it off.

FWIW my original Limited Edition Movies 200 order got free installation (save £14.99) and he knocked a whopping £5 a month off, making it £50. No budge on a second box. I tried to cancel, citing the £220 cashback on offer with TopCashBack, and the agent offered a £100 Amazon voucher. Like blood out of a stone.

No idea how I'm going to get a signal to a second TV - Freeview aerial??
The_Pope
23 Jan 17 #166
Also @Pezza2u, how did they install the two V6 boxes? Two separate coax cables from your outside box? I've heard the two V6 boxes can talk to each other over Ethernet, so maybe only one hole in your outside wall, but then run Cat6 inside your house?
Pezza2u
24 Jan 17 #167
This isn't a retentions deal. The guy I deal with works in the new customer and moving department but I had to give my notice in to get the better deal. I didn't think I would get it to be honest but he did it without any charges for the boxes. I have to pay £7.50 a month for the extra box but that is still cheaper than Sky's £12 for multiscreen, which they don't seem to discount.

It sounds like you have gone ahead with your order now so even if I gave you his contact details I don't think he could do anything until the contract is up and you give notice. With the Amazon voucher it doesn't like a too bad a deal.

We've lived in our current house for 3 years and moved Virgin with us, the cable was already downstairs in the new place. I then changed to Sky (just TV) and moved the Tivo upstairs and they ran a cable from outside through the bedroom wall. Each box needs a coaxial cable connected. So when the engineer came the other day he only had to connect the boxes, really I could've done a self-install but they wouldn't let me. I had to set them up anyway as the broadband was down at the time (which rarely happens!) and you need it to activate the boxes.

The box upstairs is connected to the superhub (also in the bedroom) with a cable and the box downstairs is just using the wifi. I know they prefer them to be cable connected but it's working fine, I've streamed from one box to another with no issues.
The_Pope
24 Jan 17 #168
That's super interesting - every box requires a dedicated coax from the "street", but for multiple V6 boxes to talk to each other they use a further Ethernet / Powerline / Wifi connection...? Thanks for the tips!
Pezza2u
24 Jan 17 #169
I think it's only one cable from the street to the box on the outside wall of the house. This is then split with one cable going into the lounge and one to the bedroom. I've not opened the box outside but I'm fairly certain that's the way it's done. I could have split the cable in the lounge and run the second coaxial indoors but that is a lot more hard work than just running it up the wall outside.

Yes the boxes need to be connected to the superhub (or your own router) for them to see each other. You can then view the content from one box on another. So far it's working fine on wifi but if I do get issues I'll be getting powerlines to hard wire it. I really can't be bothered with running a cable up the wall and pulling up floorboards!

Been on with VM trying to get this offer. Apparently they only offer it to customers who have phone and BB and NO TV Package. What utter sh1t3!!!!. I pay for 50MB, Middle TV and phone line that is not plugged in and actually get 0.25MBPS DL on evenings due to 'High Useage' in my area. They identified the Bearers need to be upgraded in January 2016 at the local exchange and over a year later its still not done.
Just spoke to Lloyd on retentions who wanted to upgrade my tv package with another 50 useless channels and then that will give me 100 MBPS DL. All for an increase of a couple of quid a month. Already paying £45 a month.
I was hoping this OFFER/Upgrade might compensate for me having p155 poor connection but its only for customers upgrading from no TV package to TV Package.
No recompense offered for my year long troubles what so ever. Time for me to check out SKY/TALK TALK, PLUSNET etc.
Does anyone know if there is an ombudsman I cant contact regarding this matter?
dead4red69
26 Jan 17 #171
It definitely depends on who you speak to. I've phoned up about three times over the last fortnight but had no luck getting the deal.

Just got off of the phone though and the person I spoke to sorted it for me. Apparently the deal wasn't showing on my account so she manually had to rebuild and add it(?).
alexandramarie1
26 Jan 17 #172
I've just phoned them a 4th time and been offered the £35 deal. I have gone ahead for now but it doesn't include movies and it includes a £65 installation charge. Has anyone got movies and had the charge taken off with this offer? I'm tempted to go through topcashback in my husband name who's never had virgin in his name as it works out at £36pm over a year and includes movies and only £14.99 installation fee
dead4red69

Digital_Singh

Got same deal - only paying 14.99 activation fee no other charges and a V6 box [ instead of Tivo ] . Prior to that I only had Broadband and Phone ...
Wellayenever
27 Jan 17 #175
I'm going to try again tomorrow, see if I can get them to waive the installation fee. They used to insist that an engineer install the Tivo when that first came out and for most people it was totally unnecessary. Now it's offered as self install and they even have videos showing you how to install splitters yourself.

It's £55 for he haw!
alexandramarie1
27 Jan 17 #176
I have phoned so many times and spoke to so many people. Every time I've hit the same brick wall. Not possible to remove the installation fee despite me explaining that lots of people have!! The bloke today sounded genuine to be honest but said the best he can do apply £20 credit towards it to my account

i was also reading about retention deals and trying to get one. I was never offered one. then signed up with sky and when virgin got a call to get my phone number from sky they called me and offered 50mb nlimited plus weekend call for 16/month and 1st month free.
I was paying 24/mnth before that.
KareemSaid
27 Jan 17 #178
No offence but a lot of these posts don't really explain exactly what you have got and how much you are paying in total.

This was initially a retention deal so assuming existing VM customers.

Please explain whether you are a new or existing customer, what you were paying before and are now paying and also whether line rental is included in your price or if you have paid upfront.

If you are a new customer I think you'd be better off looking on MSE and going through cashback sites.

27 Jan 17 #179
Yes, it seems like us LONG term loyal customers are treated with utter contempt. Virgin Media - I cancelled my contract 2 weeks ago and all you offered me was broadband UP TO 50 mb ONLY for £40 a month.

You have taken the pi55 was too long. Hurry up and get the boxes sent out to return your crappy technology so I can be done with you once and for all.

Non existent "customer service" and incentive to stay with. Customer over 10 years.

Awful company!

Hands up if you're bored of my updates? This might be the last one as I FINALLY have a package that feels as generous as the Golden £37 deal that was offered at Christmas... I've shaved over £400 off my first year, worth 49% so very happy!

The original package was this:
Limited Edition Full House with Movies bundle (XL TV + Cinema 1/2)
200mbit internet
V6 box
The list price is £55 + the usual £14.99 "activation charge".

I'm a completely new customer, defecting from TalkTalk because of a house-move. Happy with TT Fibre, but it's "only" 76mbit and no TV

Discounts wangled:
1) No £14.99 activation charge
2) £100 amazon voucher (was a Welcome Offer online this week instead of the wireless speaker)
3) £5 per month credit for 12 months (agent trying to get £55/m down)
4) Half price Movies for first six months (worth £10 a month - chucked in today without asking)
5) SECOND V6 box!! After every agent insisting it would be £49.95 + £7.50 a month, I managed to get the former waived this morning via the Pre Installation call centre in India, and she gave me the 50% off Movies at the same time.
6) Don't forget £50 Refer A Friend
7) Also don't forget Value Line Rental (pre-payment) available at any time to any customer to shave £24 a year off.

Everyone will know by now that nothing is guaranteed and your mileage may vary. As pleased as I am with my £400-off, it's taken 6 or 7 hours in total of phonecalls, Live Chat and in-store badgering. If time is on your side, and you're prepared to roll the dice as many times as it takes, you MIGHT hit the jackpot (eventually).

This is the reason I left. I've had terrible service, my bills have doubled (partly my fault but mostly the Virgin system is designed this way), but the "customer service rep" was absolutely terrible. He lied repeatedly, was very rude and arrogant and hung up on me because I requested a cancellation (without pointing out any of the above)

Why Virginmedia are allowed to advertise the lies they do and get away with all the things they do is ridiculous. Of course we all know Ofcom, etc have no real power and are only there for show.

You are lucky if you get this deal from my experience, we have been using the service since the old cable wireless days and once started off with a good package but each year it has been a fiasco to get a reduction in cost. Often at the expense of loosing a service like anytime calls, tv channels or broadband speed.
Now on the lowest of packages with basic tv (tivo), 50mb (hub 2) and line rental at a cost that is going up to just over £40 (inc a £5 Loyalty discount). New customers are only paying £29 and will be able to possibly gain cashback.
Have rung up several times but never get anywhere with them, first time was an offer of a £1.48 reduction when it went up by £2.48 at the end of last year, asked about the V6 box and told it would cost me £67 plus line rental, having a laugh I am thinking to myself.
Another call was a little better but still no cheaper than a new customer, that worked out £36.67 for the basic package plus 60 extra channels (probably useless like the customer service offers). Again this is including a £5 loyalty discount.
Said you are offering me no better prices or services than a new customer and want to give my 30 day notice, was asked if I want to keep my number "Yes, of course", he said "your new provider needs to contact us before we can activate the 30 day notice". I am sure this is not correct and it was just done to delay the inevitable but think I will have to ring back again to confirm the cancellation.

Has anyone else had problems with transferring there current telephone number? we have had it since even before cable and wireless, was once with BT.

AVOID VIRGIN

I took out their Vivid so-called 100 Mbps Unlimited Fibre package, recently - speed tests (wired ethernet without any other downloads in background on a virus/spyware-free machine) revealed 20-30 Mbps on a daily basis, in the afternoons and evenings !!

Interestingly I get around 85 Mbps at 3.30 A.M. when nearly the whole country's fast asleep

Virgin are clearly deceiving and cheating their customers !

Avoid at all costs.

When ever I have spoken to anyone at Virgin in relation to any issues & diverted to discussion onto a possible upgrade I have been told the best they can do is £70 pm.

Cancelled last week without any penalties, taking advantage of the standard 2-week cancellation period as a new customer. Good riddance.

Been an existing customer for 2 years and joined on a Mates Rates deal that was similar to a new customer deal at the time. The price of my bundle has increased 5 times in 2 years and I've been paying £48 a month + line rental for Full House TV, 200mb, as well as the weekend calls landline that I don't even use.

Great to see that the new packages have line rental already included in the price but ridiculous that they can't seem to offer this to some new customers including myself! Got through to someone who was helpful and honest enough to say 'There's nothing on my system that will let me match the new customer offer of Full House Movies for £55 and I'd recommend putting in your cancellation and getting someone else who lives in the house to sign up as a new customer.'!!!

I want to cancel my account as defo paying over the board in comparison...
£110 (£120 from April) for Big Kahuna Sports and Movies but 100mb and talk weekends and old Tivo plus old V+ so much inferior package..., how so that others are getting much more for £40 less ??? must be I'm an idiot then?

anyway, am fed up of queuing for long long minutes for someone to pick up the phone to enable me to say "I am leaving"; surely must be easier way; tried live chat but also nobody is on the other side

that VIP bundle for £85 for new customers seems tasty and is my benchmark now

15 Mar 17 #205
so I have finally got to speak to someone;
nice guy but couldn't offered anything good enough;
told him that my Tivo is sluggish as hell so he then wanted to train me how to make it faster by clearing cache, interestingly that when he finally accepted my notice he told me to dispose my 2 boxes (Tivo 500 and V+HD) meaning it is so rubbish they even don't want it back...

Phone up and cancel. They call you back within the 30 days cancellation period and bend over backwards for you.

I called them as my year is up, apparently they don't do that any more ...
The deal I was offered was pitiful.

Just put in my notice for cancellation. so fingers crossed for a call. Ive actually already got a good deal with Sky.
got half price TV and Sky Fibre unlimited for 6.01.

So monthly price is
Sky Q standard package and Cinema: £20
Sky Fibre Unlimited: 6.01
Line Rental: 18.99
Total : 45 per month
(option to remove Sky cinema at any time reducing price to 36 pounds per month)
I actually also managed to get quidco cashback which has all tracked (total £150) which is also handy.
So total for 12 months is £540 (£432 without sky cinema)

The gentleman on the cancellations team actually offered me the full house bundle for 45 pounds... IF i paid the advance line rental.... which seems silly because thats a total of 61 pounds per month! (line rental saver works out at 16.3 per month if you break it down)... thats more than the new customer price of £55 per month which sucks basically. So basically they are going to have to offer me the full house bundle PLUS sky cinema AND pay for my line rental @ £45 per month to keep my custom this time.
