There are currently a few deals here such as the two-for-one offer for £19 if you sign up as a new customer. But the better deal seems if you use the code MSE15JAN which is provided by moneysavingexpert. This reduces the price of two premium pairs by £34 and gives free delivery. So if you select two pairs costing £49 each (full separate price of £98), the code and the two-for-one will reduce them to only £15.

There is also 5.5% Quidco.

The link doesn't appear to be working, so please use this one:

As a new customer what if i wanted a single pair of glasses that are slightly less than £30 pounds (or a few pounds more) would i still be able to use the £30 off?. By paying those few pounds more or costing nothing?. Not clear on their web site. I understand the 2 pairs offer but single pair not sure. Thankyou

This really should be expired as the MSE code doesn't work anymore. You can add it but it doesn't take any more money off.

You can however get two pairs for £22.95 delivered using a personal offer code.

Both of my pairs have now turned up. Great service and great value. The frames are not as well made as some expensive ones, but they look fine and the lenses are as good as two pairs of glasses I paid 20 times as much for a few weeks ago. I bought the cheapy ones as spare pairs but I'd be happy wearing them anywhere. Top value. I'll shop there again.

(a bit long but hope this helps for your future order)
I've recently ordered mine from Glassesdirect. I've used £10 Boots eye test coupon to get prescription but they couldn't give me PD as I've never made glasses apparently.
Glasses direct said that I can send in my current glasses instead of measuring PD myself but I didn't want to send in my current one so I visited where I ordered mine three years ago (Vision Express) and they gave me my PD number on a form, handwritten. so when I came back home I emailed Glassesdirect my PD (not scanned) and it was accepted. they say delivery is between 10-14 days I am so looking forward to receive a new pair

Anyone know how good their varifocals are? Very cheap at £49, does that make them equivalent to the optician's "basic" option, or are they better than that? I always pay for the top grade at Boots, but it costs a fortune.

To be fair to them, it's because the lens gets thicker the bigger it us so if its a larger frame like Christopher Biggins then it's going to be too thick to sit in the frame.

I had the same and my issue is they appear to have ignored the £12.50 upgrade and jumped straight to the £25 option. I went for it so hope they're nice!

I have just ordered a pair as spare glasses. I tend to get my main glasses from a high street shop, and get them to adjust them to fit, and buy second spare pairs from online suppliers. If you're bothered about them fitting, it's actually pretty easy to adjust glasses to fit, as long as you're patient and careful. There's a good guide here.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/HOW-TO-ADJUST-EYEGLASSES-/10000000178567752/g.html

If you're clumsy or hopelessly impractical, then you might struggle, but it's not difficult. And when the glasses only cost £15 for two pairs, the stakes are not that high.

It was years ago since I did it (won't buy online now for that reason!), but if you can't afford opticians prices then it's the only option really. I don't think that you should be telling people that can't afford it that they have no other option than to deal with it, because it's not true.

Glasses that don't fit right are terrible. I actually tried your Option 1, and it didn't really work. The glasses pushed hard on one side of my nose and hurt, and eventually one of the arms broke, presumably because of the constant strain.
Famine
8 Jan 17 #94
No offence to you but those are the only three options unless you are absolutely shameless.
dean_brfc
8 Jan 17 #93
That's not true. Any Opticians will alter glasses for you.

Obviously it's a bit cheeky, and they might be a bit grumpy about it (maybe even request a small fee), but they will do it. I know because I did it various times when I was a student.
Famine
8 Jan 17 #92
Obviously with a bricks and mortar opticians you go in and they customise the fitting to your head. You clearly can't do that with a internet based opticians so you have three choices.

1) Buy frames with spring hinges.
2) Order them and hope for the best
3) Stay away from online opticians

If you have a small head, I think it might be an idea to stick with the high street where you can physically try the frames before you buy.
radzy
8 Jan 17 #91
For glasses direct, I think the best way is to look at the frame sizes as they are all specified on the website. The frames seem to be have various sizes, but they are not customisable.
safc1967
7 Jan 17 #90
what i would like to know is how you get these fitted as when you go to a bricks and mortar opticians they adjust the arms to get a good fit on your head, what is the procedure if you buy them off t'net???
radzy
7 Jan 17 #89
I doubt it is a sign of a cancellation. Most likely they may want to discuss your prescription if it is the opticians that want to communicate with you.
lu408

This was a few years ago so might not be exactly the same, but you select "add to home trial" on up to 4 pairs. They then post them to you (with plain glass lenses, like examples in normal Opticians) and you just send them back using the pre-paid postage stamp inside when you're done. Got a feeling there might be a deposit involved to stop people stealing them, can't remember now.

Think I went through 12 pairs (so 3 separate home trial orders) before I found some I liked.

But what's the point of having six pairs of glasses that don't fit right?

I have bought from Glasses Direct in the past, but only after a few rounds of home trials until I found a pair I liked.

Although at £15 you have a point about buying them as spares. Thinking about doing that to leave in the car as emergencies (always been a bit worried about how I would get home if a contact lense fell out after I've driven to play football or something!).
whereangelsplay
5 Jan 17 #69
for 15 quid a pair even if not perfect fit handy to leave in car or as a spare I've ordered many pairs without any problems
woldranger
5 Jan 17 #68
Very true. But at that price, theoretically you could get 6 different pairs for the price of a single pair of the cheapest from specsavers (if their cheapest is still £50 ish - I'm not 100% on that). That was the argument I gave for my Mother when I said to her about getting a spare pair to leave in her car. It's a shame this offer is so short that you won't be able to receive your order and then, if all is good, order again. But they do tend to have lots of offers on throughout the year.

Each to their own on this one!

5 Jan 17 #60
found my answer ...

How long will they take to arrive?
As a general guide we would normally expect you to receive your glasses within 10 to 14 days from placing your order, and it can be much quicker than that. Our terms state that delivery can take up to 28 days, however this is very seldom the case and the length of time is mostly dependant on the complexity of your order, so the prescription and lens combinations and any coatings or tints that have been added.

Sadly I don't think many opticians do, unless theres actually a fault obviously. I mean this deal works out nearer the £100 mark with the extras for me but thats still a fair chunk lower. I got my first pair of glasses last year as I found I needed them at night. However I find am needing them more and more now. And more importantly I drive for a living.

Is there I way of getting a pair of Oakley sunglasses that have my lenses in them? How can I go about this online if I don't have my lenes settings?

I know it's a noob question but did a quick eye test last year in specsavers and walked out with a pair at 25 quid or something lol. But with me being short-sighted i feel I need them more now I than I ever did especially driving when tired

Thanks in advance

4 Jan 17 1 #29
I would go and get another eye test, just to ensure there are no changes and keep hold of the prescription they give you. Then you can order glasses online from either Glasses Direct or other online places by uploading your prescription.
chadders06
4 Jan 17 #24
Glasses Direct are excellent. The quality is brilliant and they normally request your prescription via email afterwards if they are unsure on your exact prescription. I have used them twice and opted for Ray Bans last time I ordered, the first time I ordered using the try before you buy on 5 frames, but this excludes the Boutique Frames. However the software they use on Boutique frames works very well to virtually try them on.

I can't fault them, and they are at least as good as Specsavers.

There is also the potential for Quidco of 5.5% on all sales. However be warned that my last order was not honoured by Glasses Direct on Quidco.
Candystore to chadders06
4 Jan 17 #28
I agree, they are excellent but I found their own range of glasses to be of poor quality. I found them to be very flimsy, especially the arms.

To ensure it works, when you go on the website, select Premium option which offers two-for-one. These cost £49 or more each. (The old link seems to have broken - it was sent from a laptop - so use the new one provided in the description). Then select the two pairs you want and add them to basket (click Buy Now and they will get added). You will get the option to add extras such as anti glare if you wish, but it is not mandatory. Go to your basket and add the code and the price should be reduced by at least £83, making a subtotal of £15 (or more if you have selected more expensive glasses and added extras). You will also get the option to add your exact prescriptions (this can also be added a later date) when you go to your basket. These guys have a good returns policy too.
