the original is one of my favourites. I have it on vhs, dvd and an HD rip.....and now I'll have it on bluray. the prequel is an ok film. some good scenes. cgi lacklustre in general but some peaks. 6/10

The prequel I shall be using as a coaster. It was the 1982 version I wanted. However it was a massive missed opportunity not to have made the prequel a full Norwegian language film. I love subtitles.

for me, it is a film I can watch again and again. its nearly as good as bladerunner. did I want a sequel to the thing back in the 80s rather the prequel...you betcha. do I want the upcoming sequel to bladerunner....nope

Well we have a different rating system then that's why I found it difficult to grasp. 7.5/8 is very good in my book. Fantastic would be a certain 9. That's where I put The Thing. If 7.5/8 is absolutely fantastic to you and 10 is a classic, what the hell would 8.5, 9 or 9.5 be?! :stuck_out_tongue:

No, more like the difference between a 7.5/8 and a flawless 10/10 classic. There are hundreds of movies I would call fantastic, but very few that I would label a classic. It's surely not that difficult to grasp is it?

You're just splitting hairs. You knock those calling it a "classic" while regarding it "absolutely fantastic" yourself. What's that, a difference between a 9 and a 9.5. Fair enough.

Well if you're not able to distinguish the difference between "fantastic" and an all time "classic" then I can't help you

Can anyone give an answer to this? Seen it asked several times in the last couple of weeks because since Xmas the Lightning Deals are not findable in the same way they were prior to that. Filtering results from the Today's Deals pages just brings back nothing for me so it would seem Amazon have tinkered yet again and broken it. Is it browser related?

Yeah there has been many versions of Oliver Twist but they aren't "remakes".

That is a popular misconception. It's not a remake of it, just another adaptation of John W. Campbell's "Who Goes There?" which both are based off.

I quite liked the remake.
The original is awesome, but it's not without its flaws - it's certainly not the "classic" movie people hype it up to be. Absolutely fantastic movie, yes - but gets more overrated every year. You'd think it was on a par with Blade Runner the way some people hype it up.

Oh I think it is very much a classic of the genre. As is Blade Runner which is more over hyped than The Thing.

You criticise it for being hyped up but then call it "absolutely fantastic". If that's not hyping it up I don't know what is.
Classic original and rubbish remake.
Nice price as long as you are prime !!
