Well simply put, No Man's Sky 'bombed' because Sean Murray let his tongue slip a few too many times. He had ideas in his head which he quite vocally made appear were in the game that simply wasn't. I don't think NMS is necessarily a bad game, it's just not the game people expected and this is why it's received the backlash it has. If Murray had kept his mouth shut and just gone with what was actually present then £34.99 deals for NMS would be going hot. Simply consumer backlash mate, that is all.
As for TLG, well I haven't played it. But it's been highly anticipated since E3 2009, and to be honest, it's done well to get where it is today. If a studio can produce an idea in 2009 and manage to get people talking about that same game in 2017 AND loving it, then that alone speaks volumes for TLG.
Personally, in terms of hype and let downs. I'm waiting for Half Life 3 :smirk:

Slow paced shouldn't be seen as the equivalent of poor quality. :stuck_out_tongue: I wouldn't particular disagree with it being slow-paced, but have a read through some reviews to get some idea of the game's content.

Depends if you like the look of the sleeve mate and think it's worth that extra cash.

The only difference is a (admittedly nice-looking) cardboard sleeve; otherwise, the two versions are identical.

Is it just the sleeve that's extra? If so, as nice as it is, I don't see £5 of value

Whilst I agree with you about the sleeve Rob, I just don't see it as being worth £5 (Maybe if it was a steelbook)

Dont get the connection... completely different games promising completely different things. Are you referring to hype? hype for this was mostly just people wanting to see it out, it had been so long, rather than expecting the world/s from it.
Danjw91
5 Jan 17#18
I didn't say it's looks similar. I just said it looks no better than No Mans Sky which got crushed but this has massive hype but yet doesn't look that great in my opinion since I was going to get it.

You can't ever judge a game by videos, they don't represent the experience of playing it at all... Although they are useful to watch before buying.
Again, slow paced does not mean bad. I had no expectations for this game but really enjoyed it... Apart from the stupid dog not always cooperating which got frustrating at times (not that many times).

I was disappointed with this game, it was too slow paced and Trico was so frustrating at times i started to lose concern interest in him (although at one point when he was under attack i was more emotionally concerned and panicked than i have been in any other game i have played)
Paid £25 sold to CEX for £32 so can't complain, just having played Shadow of the Colossus last year for the first time and finding it one of the best games i have ever played it would of been nice if this would of been SOTC2 instead.

The game and story is very good, well worth this price! The extra £5 for the cardboard sleeve isn't worth it although it is a nice little touch
There are a few bits which are irritating in the game:
The camera angles are sometimes jumpy, and you can end up viewing inside Trico.
Trico is sometimes difficult to give orders to, but can be done quite well after a couple of attempts.

I think dunkey summarised it best when he realised his video on this;
"I'm on the fence whether it's terrible or good. It's possibly the least responsive game ever created, but it's also really unique and has some incredible moments. The visuals are amazing but the PS4 can barely run it. I think people who have the patience for it, who are fans of Team Ico's other stuff will love it. On the other hand, large segments of the game are built on these really unreliable mechanics or mechanics that are just flat out boring.
Trico is not meant to do what you say as soon as you ask. The whole point of the game is seeing the relationship develop and the way in which a real life animal would not immediately follow your orders. Trico gets more responsive as the game goes on but never totally responsive - Its not a design flaw - it is the way the game was intended to be, the game is about the experience, soaking it in. If Trico responded to me as soon as i asked him to do something i dont think this would be half the game it is, and it would litterally not last very long at all. Half the "fun" and "immersion" is getting him to pay attention to you and understand what you want. While exploring the world and looking around. If you dont like slow paced games simply do not play this and go back to COD / Battlefield.

well since you put huge disappointment I'm guessing not,I loved the game. I just finished gears if war 4 that was short and a bit disappointing. I had no hype for this game I played it and was hooked, people complain saying Trio is annoying and doesn't listen. most people don't reliase there is in fact 5 controls to tell him what to do. I had 1 problem and turned out to my fault. this game deserves the hype, it's different, lovely atmosphere and puzzling challenge. worth the money.

Love / hate relationship with this game when I had it.
Trico very frustrating even towards the end of the game to get him to move how you intend. e.g. Jumping down ~200m from ledge to ledge instead of up among many other occasions.
The game is all in Japanese with English subtitles (in case you didn't know like me). Unless there was an option I missed lol.
The camera is so bad in this day and age, it's slow, bad angles, blocked by Trico half the time and generally feels like a ps2 game in terms of cam control.
The story is almost non existent or should I say, not of any consequence to the game?
The standard ps4 barely handles the game (dunno about pro) and frames drop painfully low throughout in the open areas
Having said that though, it is unique, endearing and unlike anything I've ever played and I did thoroughly enjoy it despite its flaws :sunglasses:

I thought the game was OK. I just don't think the 8 year development, could justify the content (Yes Triko was F'ing annoying to control. This is by no means a Duke Nukem Forever, it's just an ok game, nothing special though.

Massive Heat! Just an incredible game. I don't care that the controls and camera angles are occasionally a bit off. It's like playing a cartoon. Breathtakingly beautiful as is the special bond you form with you and Trico.

Were the narrated bits I.E. The guy saying things like: "the beast was clearly aggravated, I had to find a way to calm him". Were those bits not Japanese? Honest question as I clearly don't speak the language!
