How much did a Raleigh Chopper weigh out of interest? Nobody moaned back then. Today's kids are molly coddled and not prepared to work hard at anything. Kids just chuck their bikes around and the super light and super expensive ones end up broken or stolen in no time at all.

not bothered about the weight......I won't be using it :wink: I call it pay back....if I have to work hard to afford all the gifts my child receives then I expect pay back in some way......just like the time I super glued all the Lego pieces together :wink::wink::wink:

14.25 Kilogram ! Great deal if you plan to torture your little one or put them completely off biking. A 20" bike should be less than half this weight. No wonder they have this for sale. Glad I saw the weight before almost buying it.

cheap gripshifters can be a nightmare for younger kids to turn. be warned. decathlon seem to have it nailed on their bikes

It is only 1 - 2kg over most of the bikes in decathlon that I usually buy. It's not exactly double the weight of most bikes! For a cheap budget this is a steal :-)

You'll find most 24" wheel kids bikes weigh around 15 - 19kg - unless you spend another couple of hundred quid.

Yes indeed, nobody from the 70's would be seen dead wearing the skin tight lycra cycling or running gear that is commonplace these days.
Though wow, with hindsight, the budgie smuggling Speedos we donned anytime, any place, when the sun came out were probably worse!

That was 40 years ago, bikes don't need to weigh a ton now. This bike is sold as handling any terrain and as a suspension bike when it is in fact no such thing. For the same price a normal frame bike could be made which would be lighter, more reliable and ultimately more fun to ride. It's interesting you chose the chopper to compare as it's exactly that sort of bike that started bikes down the road ( :wink: ) of being kids novelties and not proper ways to get about.
I hate it when I read comments like "my kid will only wreck it in 6 months", I know bikes have a hard life in children's hands but they should last longer than that.
These bikes are just so wasteful, if anything goes wrong they aren't financially worth repairing, if indeed you can get spares as Tesco never sell the same design for more than 5 minutes at a time.
Quite apart from their general awfulness they are complete ripoff. Tesco pay $20 delivered for their adult bikes, their profit margin is far higher than a real bike shop has on a proper bike. Heavy, short lived, overpriced and crap to ride. What's not to like? Destined to sit unloved outside quickly rusting or gathering dust in the shed with flat tyres.
Buy a nice bike, use it, look after it and you'll sell it on having lost less money than this lump costs. :wink:

I had a Raleigh Grifter, which probably weighed as much as a small house.
48 now, still alive, still occasionally get on a bike,still not wearing anything fluorescent or made of lycra :laughing:

I for one am sure that this new bike will be loved and appreciated and if looked after properly by parent and child alike, will last a good while / long enough.
Bikes had good reviews from first hand users, which I'm happy to go along with.
What's deemed important to some, may not be important to others....all so very subjective:)
The value is exceptional even for a 'heavy bike'....and nothing like a bit of hard work / excercise / fun for our now very techcentric children.....I mean, even a refurb on Ebay is 60quid!?!?!?!?!
Picking it up on Tuesday from out local Tesco Extra, so will report back on our finding after two wheeled vehicle is constructed and tested :smiley:
