Nice price drop considering the RRP was confirmed as £49.99 by Konami.
Since its release in 1985, Bomberman has been a familiar party-battle game for many years. Now, Bomberman is coming back as "SUPER BOMBERMAN R" to Nintendo Switch.
In SUPER BOMBERMAN R, the simple rule remains the same: operate the main character (Bomberman), place bombs, and battle with enemies and rivals, but it's coming back in a modern style with 3D stages and photo-real graphics. You can enjoy battles with rivals from all over the world.
There is "Battle" mode for maximum of 8 players, and single play "Story" mode (cooperative play for 2 players is possible as well) where players clear each stage one by one, with a big volume of 50 stages. Also, there is a new rule where the condition to clear the stage is not just by wiping out all the enemies. This simple but strategic game with new rules and 3D stages is fun for everyone, from children to adults.
Features:
Bomberman is back with the same game system and controllability with a fresh take on a classic title
Photo-real graphics
Bomberman's siblings and well-known enemies are back with rich personality
3D stages with dynamic environments
Battle mode for maximum of 8 players, local connection battles, and online battles
Enriched story with all-star voice actors

Can see this being one of the most played Switch games because of the online multiplayer. Is probably going to be the best online multiplayer Nintendo game since MK7 and Splatoon. If it turns out to be one of the most played and best multiplayer games in your Switch collection, whatever you paid for it will seem like a bargain?

He's just posting the views that you are all scared to admit that you believe in secret. Nintendo doesnt want to sell consoles, they want to stay out of the mainstream. In fact for me they are a bit mainstream still, that's why i solely own the Apple Pippen, itself a product from another non mainsteam little company you probably have never heard of.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but why does this game have a strange tilted camera angle? It used to be straight in the original games. I only ever had Super Bomberman 2 on the SNES, which was really good at the time.
noahsdad to WelshJester
24 Jan 17#39
Good point and not sure what that is about either. Perhaps it has something to do with the 2D/3D mix? Still has 2D style maps yet with 3D image characters and other features. To be modern it had to have some element of a 3DS appearance, and it looks like there is boss battles too. Would be nice if they had some retro level stuff included for us oldies, but probably won't.

Didn't seem too strange to me, but my last one was Super Bomberman Land Touch 2 on the DS.

24 Jan 17#64
Having watched some gameplay videos, the game doesn't always use the tilted camera angle, and it can play at the same angle that Super Bomberman 2 did. I've yet to figure out if there's an option to change the camera angle or if the camera angle depends on the game mode (such as story mode / battle mode).

This is a shockingly bad price for this game. Doesn't seem to have added much since I played Bomberman on the SNES... Should've been download only at £19.99...

Fair enough re them being implicated in the price fixing with various distributors even though it was a longgggggg time ago. Mud certainly does stick  Thanks for the link, did not know about that to be honest. Even though this was ages ago, naughty boys Nintendo!
Family gaming was mainstream once upon a time. Now it is the minority gaming. The new mainstream at different points in video gaming history became GTA, generic shooters and the like. That is what the masses were playing. We now live in a world where most families don't even eat meals together, let alone eat at a dinner table. The idea that the norm is families are sitting around a games consoles in large numbers is nice, but it just ain't happening. If you took their phones away, am not even convinced most kids/teenagers could have a conversation.
I acknowledged your fair (if ancient) point about Nintendo price fixing. Maybe you will be kind enough to acknowledge I understand what "mainstream" is perfectly well. If mainstream fits Nintendo, then I am off to play some mainstream sport like croquet and fencing.
Also I don't think you know what mainstream means, the thing Nintendo consoles do right is family and party games which are fun when it is Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros but you cannot get more mainstream than family games....also the less consoles Mario v Sonic at the Olympics is on the better same can be said about the later mario tennis games.
You talk about niche games but every type of gaming device has its share of niche games, Steam has a huge library of it. Sony has it's hipster "thatgamecompany" and I am sure Microsoft have something too.

Brilliant strategy from Konami, simply re-release a popular game and stick the RRP sky high. There's basically no other launch titles apart from Zelda & 1,2 switch so those early adopters are bound to buy this.
Domislice
24 Jan 171#50
I feel Konami have somewhat missed the point with this game, not surprising given that it's Konami. If they'd focused on making it run super smoothly with tight controls and some interesting multiplayer variations, i.e. the important part of Bomberman, there would actually be real interest and at least some justification for a high price. Instead they opted for a demanding isometric 3D style which isn't optimised well and doesn't seem to have any substantive new content.
The £50 RRP is still ridiculous in any case, when you consider there seems to be little more in this game than the 90's versions and there was a Wiiware version in 2008 that effectively did the multiplayer in this game and cost 1000 Wii points (£7). I guess they're hoping custom hats or whatever unlockables there are and online multiplayer will justify the cost to new Switch owners. There aren't many other options at launch.
noahsdad
24 Jan 171#49
Price fixing you say? That would be what the supermarkets do when they all meet in secret and agree to set the exact same prices for key products. Or what the energy suppliers do when they create a high window band of prices.
You seem to be suggesting Nintendo are price fixing with themselves. I don't understand but maybe you can elaborate.
Given Nintendo have no competition in their market segment of kid friendly/family orientated niche genre gaming, I am not sure who they would even price fix with? The other mainstream consoles are not even price fixing with themselves let alone with any non mainstream console that offer a different type of gaming.
Then where are all the generic shooters in mass numbers? Or multiple large amounts of Sports genre games? Hang on it isn't mainstream. You don't get things like Splatoon, Mario Tennis or Mario v Sonic at the Olympics on mainstream consoles.

If Nintendo had kept the Switch down to £199 and sacrificed a bit of their precious console profit margin, then I'm sure he/she and many others would have been far more likely to take the Switch....
