The costs aren't hidden at all, but of course It adds to extra costs. I do believe the best value overall would be to buy 2x switches.

Why on earth would you pay £38:99 for bomberman !!!!!! COLD.

Imagine the extra you'd need for 8 players elsewhere... £320 (plus or minus local prices) for 8 dualshock 4's plus the extra systems...
These comments are a joke. Accessories do not constitute "hidden or extra costs". Ludicrous that Nintendo gets this bad press. The only point I agree with is the prices, pretty steep but that happens with every launch.

I would have thought there'd be an answer to easily block out voice chat. Link it with parental controls, or, ya know, just don't buy a headset for your 10 year old. That said, we live in a society now sadly where irresponsible parents will buy CoD games for pre-teens, presumably Nintendo is just preventing the inevitable rise of switch wielding paedos.
My point remains valid however, they shouldn't be **** away money on online play if they're not going to add chat functionality.

Nintendo have been fighting the tide with their online services for years- their whole online setup was decided BEFORE they looked at the competition's offering. Now, conceptually innovative as that may be, the competition had already set the standard, so things like voice chat became the norm, but along with that came the endless flow of homophobic and racial slurs that tar every. single. videogame on rival consoles. I straight-up stopped using it altogether the first week I got Modern Warfare 2.
I can see why they would want to avoid that and the reverence placed in local multiplayer is great for gamers like me who play games with real life, flesh and blood people and I can respect the international bandwidth stuff that the diversified app thing is supposed to solve (with relation to hotspots) BUT... it is a clunky pain in the ****, ain't it?
I know putting my phone down next to me isn't exactly the most vexing of tasks, but... y'know...
Why?

I... just... I know Bomberman is fun as hell and even more so in multiplayer but... it's just not full retail price fun.
I love Nintendo, but they should've diversified pricing for their launch titles to set an example.

It's £36.85 from Base.com - UPDATE: gone up to £38.85 now.
Good to see prices coming down across the board. I am tempted by this but a bit fed up that Nobunaga or Three Kingdoms not a launch title like in Japan. The localisation already been done for the PS4 versions so don't understand which such a drought they don't get them over to the west

I can't see Nintendo getting into voice chat in a big way. The general bread and butter gaming they offer is family focused and there has always been emphasis on safety. I do agree it is a bit stupid and limiting. The Mii folk walking around the Wii U screen thing and sharing their messages has always been fine, have never seen anything dodgy. Being a non mainstream family type of console, buy its nature the gamers are quite responsible and friendly.

Would be £280ish for 8 players on a ps4/xbox etc

Until nintendo get around to supporting voice chat you may as well play with the AI. I'm talking about local play anyway, not online.

I think the price of this might hold. It's the only 8 player game out this year so might be a hit for parties.

You're looking around £240 extra for 8 players.

Do you mean it is the only 8 player 'local multiplayer' game out this year? I think there could be more, there is a full 11 months of the year left and a lot of unknown games to come. Lots of games will certainly have 8+ or more 'online multiplayer', MK8 Deluxe for starters.

HEAT for that price. Bomberman and Micro Machines (not to be released on Switch as things stand) look like they could be 2 of the best multiplayer games we will see this year. Okay they are a bit retro-ish and 2D-ish in nature but good gaming fun does not always need fancy GFX.
