Sorry not upscaling but a poor conversion to blu ray. Harmy's Despecialized Edition Is a true fans best way to watch Star Wars. If you haven't seen it you should check it out, the colour saturation on the blu rays here is horrendous. Han Solo is super tanned, laser beams the wrong colour...shocking

Unaltered versions were never made available on Blu Ray, if you want the unaltered versions in HD then you need to seek out Harmy's Despecialized Editions, which are downloads and not Blu Rays and technically not legal and therefore not endorsed by Lucas.

The original unaltered versions were available on dvd for a while. Think I got them in a 3 for 20 thing in HMV many years ago. While they gave you the film without changes there seemed to have been no work done to the image as far as I can remember. So you'd have to consider them SD releases but maybe even lower resolution than a standard dvd. As mentioned the despecialised editions are the only way to get the original version in HD at present.

the 97 cgi jabba was so horrific. the later updated scene with better cgi looked less awful but the entire scene was not needed

good deal. watched a youtube video showing the differences in versions between original and various amendments. a good watch and made me think that not all the tweaks were for the worse.

There are more bad tweaks than good, especially in Star Wars (1977), the Greedo scene was ruined and the added (previously deleted) scene with Han Solo and Jabba which is horrific. Also I feel sorry for idiots who think that level of CGI was original, 1997 CGI in a 1977 film which had some original vector based CGI. Of course the reverse could be thought of Rogue One where the technology shown was representative/in keeping/faithful to of the technology used in Star Wars (1977).
Rogue One is a well directed film really lacking the charisma of Star Wars, not sure about the dodgy (uncanny valley) CGI recreations of dead actors either (Cushing/Fisher). Star Wars is relatively poorly directed/scripted but has much charisma.
If they had simply kept the tweaks to effects like the Death Star blowing up, the odd extra X-Wing I think it would have been great. But the man cleartly couldn't stop himself.

Just a heads up to nerds: this set doesn't include bonus disks. To get most of the special features you'll need to buy one of the 'complete saga' blu ray sets.
If you don't care about that stuff then buy away!

Some of the changes are good, some of the changes are pathetic. If it included an original branching option everyone would have been happy. Lucas was a fool asking audiences to accept these changes, it makes it look even more dated.
£15.99 is a decent price so hot regardless.

Cracking price, these versions look and sound brilliant. As mentioned above, some scenes/changes better than others, nothing to really spoil things, although the Jabba addition in Episode IV is silly and the new, definitely not improved, music at the end of VI doesn't work - thankfully, The Empire Strikes Back has only minor changes.
The definitive Star Wars (for me) is the 1980 TV version I recorded off ITV, lol (don't have the VHS any more, alas). Heat added in any case!

George Lucas has been tinkering with the films ever since they were released and these are the blu-ray versions of the modified films. I'm not aware of any alternative blu-ray versions.
There have been rumours for years that the unaltered versions will be released at some point but nobody knows when and if that will ever happen. I think I read somewhere that the original negatives were damaged so it's not a straightforward job. The (close to) original versions were released on VHS and DVD but those sell for big money. As fishmaster said earlier, illegal downloads do exist of the original versions.
So, if you want blu-ray copies of the films and aren't a purist specifically wanting the original versions then these are the ones to get.

For the super purist the fist Star wars film had already been altered during a re-release in the early 80s before any of them were out on VHS . I believe extra scenes with C3PO were added.
Good price . I don't think you can vote cold because this is not the original unaltered versions although I do understand the preference in regards to A new hope because some of the effects in that look clunky especially the meeting with Jabba which was originally a fatman in tatty clothing and the Greedo scene looks silly but doesn't detract that much from what I think are great kids movies that can also be enjoyed by adults.

I agree. Its a shame the unaltered versions are not available but certainly no reason to avoid, I watched all three over Christmas for the first time in years and I wouldn't say the changes spoilt my enjoyment, though I know some people get very upset by such things.

I wouldn't say they are to be avoided. The original theatrical versions are not available on Blu-Ray as far as I know so these "doctored" versions are all that is available right now. It depends on how much of a purist you are.
