Yes, I totally agree. I was just referring to people who think that changing a battery is more troublesome than automatic watches that potentially need servicing at points.

I think eco-drive is actually Citizen, Kinetec is Seiko's version and works on a slightly different principal. If it's an analog watch (not digital) then it probably will need servicing at some point and there are reports that the battery/capacitor can fail after a few years
If you have a high end auto then it may make some sense to stick to service intervals but this wouldn't apply to a £200 Seiko, the cost of servicing every couplle of years would very soon overtake any second hand value (in real terms the actual difference in value probably wouldn't add up to half the cost of one service)

I read up and Seiko Ecodrive is actually electronic (Lithium battery and solar charging) so I guess it is service-free, I just didn't know before, I thought it was traditional mechanical auto. And yes, maybe not every year or two but they will if you want to keep their value, just as you would with a car: you can skip the services but not good if you ever want to resell.

Automatics do need servicing but not every year or two (in my experience anyway). The low end Seiko automatic movements are reputed to work fine without servicing for 10 years plus. I have two that have never been serviced but they are only around 5 or 6 years old
plewis00
7 Jan 17#53
Yes I meant 'automatics' rather than Ecodrive as I wasn't aware that they might not need servicing, but normal mechanical automatics do need servicing.

I must be doing something wrong, had an eco drive for 6 years and never had it serviced wearing it every day. It has always worked perfectly. Maybe that's just for automatics though?

This is just a Quartz ..... boring. Never ever worth any more.
Get an EcoDrive or Automatic .... no-one wears Quartz these days with all the silly battery changing .

Isn't an EcoDrive just an Quartz watch with a rechargeable battery..?

You have to get automatics serviced, they're just more prestigious than quartz but I can't be doing with expensive servicing every year or two. In fact, most people don't wear a watch at all, they just look at their phone.

Dear, dear, dear, if this is flaming hot we might as well all go home. This is never a £230.00 watch and not eve good value at £100.00. £69.00 is about right imo. Cold from me.

I know what you mean. Boring quartz and its silly accurate time-keeping causing it needing to be adjusted by a few seconds each year. unlike those great mechanical ones that only need adjusting a couple of times a month if you're lucky ;-)

Looks very plain jane. That RRP must be hugely inflated. Worth spending £30 more & getting an Edifice? The design & looks are head & shoulders above this.

Usually retails for in excess of £100, and is a nice piece of kit.
The 'Argos' one mentioned above is a completely different watch as far as i can tell, and Amazon have it at £127 with delivery from Italy... So teh Xmas money has fianlly burned through my pocket!
Ordered, and with potentially 5.5% cashback through TopCashBack...
