What is the purpose of these? Don't people cover the mattress with a bed sheet?
Why does the mattress need anymore protection?
Surely, if the mattress is not comfortable then it needs replacing.
Is it for bed wetters?

What does it protect the mattress from? How does it increase the life of the mattress? The mattress springs or foam reduce efficiency from your body mass. How does this protector increase the life of the mattress?
For years people did not use such a thing. I still do not understand how this increases the life of the mattress. My mattress has been used for 20 years without one a protector and is fine.

You probably need to think about changing it after all of those years, just have a Google and see how many dust mites, litres of sweat are soaking into the mattress each day. A good quality, normally expensive mattress can last that long but you will get it full of all of those things. The protector offers the mattress more protection from those sorts of things, but after 20 years I wouldn't bother

Surely a quality bed sheet, washed every week provides protection. Why wouldn't an Egyptian cotton sheet be sufficient?
The Sealy one appears poor as it is not waterproof. Surely a protector should be waterproof.

no it doesn't need to be waterproof, its a extra layer of protection, they call it the final layer of protection.

Then the body fluids will soak in to the mattress protector and onto the mattress. A bed sheet is a mattress protector!

a mattress protector is more than a sheet, its thicker more absorbent.
