Samsung Galaxy S7 - Perfectly fine

Go for the 500MB deal with £99.99 upfront and £22 monthly
Airtime - £14
Device plan - £8
The phone element of contract is £8/month x 24=£192
plus the £99.99 you paid upfront.
Total - 192 + 99.99 = 291.99

Step by step guide for this deal

1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the £99.99 + £22*24 tariff.

2) Receive your phone and sim card.

3) Put the sim card into your phone and go onto myO2 (app or website) and from there request the unlock code.

4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.

5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the phone because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.

6) You own the phone from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.

7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.

Depends what else your applying for. Onviously you will take an initital hit as you do applying for any type of credit.

Its only positive in the long run as adds a paid in full loan agreement to your history.

my credit rating has been destroyed by O2 refresh errors, currently fighting them to remove a default that never existed
loofer to mr321
7 Jan 17 #37
Not negative per se. Just credit searches on application, 2 lines of credit if you go ahead and then both paid off if that's what you do.

It's not bad but it's just how other lenders may interpret it (non profitable debtor)

It's worth looking at the website to determine if "perfectly fine" is a used condition that's "perfectly fine" by your standards before buying.
Personally, "perfectly fine" sounds like "used, condition C" to me.

Mine did. Found out a year after buying a
Nexus 7 on refresh that thay hadn't closed the account properly. (credit card limit dropped to £75) Took many phone calls to sort and it was by chance that I checked on Experian where it showed the O2 account causing the issue. For that reason I wouldn't personally buy on O2 refresh again.

Bought one of these previously, the microphone is faulty.

Called O2, arranged 3 swap exchange, all 3 times failed. Sit at home all day long and no one shows up. (But they delivered it okay in the first place)

Called O2 again, cancelled everything and paid the device in full. They still charged me 1 month air time as I was trying to sort out the faulty device.

Called Samsung, arranged the repair, now they run out of parts and have to wait 2 weeks for it to be done.

All I wanted is to save some money. :disappointed:

7 Jan 17 #62
Had 4 O2 Refresh deals now and never had a thing go wrong. Pay in full up front for phone so there's nothing to pay when you ring up to cancel airtime and it all goes very smoothly. There is nothing for O2 to "refuse" as their own website says you can cancel the airtime any time you like without penalty. It really isn't rocket science and there is zero risk. If you're unlucky enough to get lumbered with an idiot operator, simply ring off and call back to get a different one. Anyone that has had issues with O2 and not been able to sort out needs a course on how to complain properly ;-)

7 Jan 17 #71
As some have already mentioned above I've also suffered due to the incompetence of O2. I picked up an iPhone 6 on a similar refresh plan and did everything as stated to cancel however was charged £596 to my account after which i called them and got that amount reversed and was repeatedly told by the agent there was no other balance pending on my account.

I decided to play extra safe and cancelled the direct debit which was setup, only to realize last month that my credit score had come tumbling down from 900 to 390. I logged into my O2 and noticed that there was an outstanding balance of £4 and they tried to take that but weren't successful as I had cancelled the DD.

Please be extra careful when dealing with these clowns!

7 Jan 17 #72
How is this hot. Perfectly fine handsets from O2 have scratches all over them. You're better off going to gumtree. Also S8 just around the corner.
pez555
7 Jan 17 #73
Also for all of those people who have issues being charged by o2 for the refresh contract, you aren't doing it correctly.

Do not cancel the contract as soon as you get the phone. Wait until your contract has started after 14 day cooling off and THEN ring up and pay the device cost and request to cancel the airtime. I've been doing o2 refresh ever since it started and never had an issue this way.
reddeviluk
7 Jan 17 #74

Of course it would. iPhone 7 has only been out a few months.

S7 is old and this deal is crap imo. Get them cheaper on gumtree or facebay
pez555
7 Jan 17 #76
No I just do it correctly.

If you cancel any contract within the 14 day cooling off period, by default you will incur the cancellation charge. This SOMETIMES wont happen if you ring up and inform them by the OP method, but the charges can still happen, as per some members here.

Does anyone know for sure if the Samsung speaker will be despatched to those who pay off the device in full and cancel the airtime within the cooling off period?

T&Cs "Participants must wait fourteen (14) days from the date of purchase to submit their Claim"

It would appear that you can only apply for the promotion after the cooling off period has passed, which if you have cancelled the airtime, would invalidate the claim, would it not?

As soon as you apply I believe it will add two credit searches onto your credit profile (one for the handset and one for the airtime). Cancelling provided done properly will leave that account as 'settled' so that part will be fine, it's just the initial searches that will make your score take a hit.

This is true, however standard contracts you only get one search performed, whereas this will have two searches which counts as two credit applications so hits your score harder then say one search today and one in a months time for example. Yes I monitor my credit score religiously LOL.

How long did it take everyone to get their unlock code through?

Live chat guy says up to 7 days!
BigYoSpeck
13 Jan 17 #143
First request got rejected the same night, second request I got told they couldn't see the IMEI linked to the O2 phone number so I needed to try again after 24 hours, third request resulted in the unlock code coming through 48 hours later.

Some people get it in just a couple of hours though.

If anyone is struggling to get their unlock code, I just got off chat and was given the link below to request an unlock/unlatch code:
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

Got my code after 2 days

Just got mine too. In fact it just after posting the link in my last post.

Took around two days in all.

Just gotta say, I managed to pay off the handset tonight £419.99 in total (£59.99 upfront + £360 settlement) and cancel the airtime.

The guy said the airtime would be cancelled within two hours, but it ended up being deactivated within a minute as I was cut off from the agent mid sentence. LOL

Thanks I bought a quick charge 3.0 charger and it literally charges my S7 in approx 90 mins from 0% to 90%+. it's super quick. Also it's a smart charger so it charges my other none quick charge devices as quick as possible as well. bargain!!!

Did you go for the £99 upfront £23 monthly offer?
contactgardner
13 Feb 17 #153
it was 22 monthly. 14 for airtime which you cancel after getting phone and 8 for phone which you settle total amount with them 8 x 24 = 192
contactgardner
13 Feb 17 #154
just noticed they've put it up to £9 device payment monthly so it's now 24 pounds more. So deal is now £99.99 + (9 x 24) = 315.99
