Great to hear you were lucky enough to travel and had a great time. I'm still dealing with my complaint to lastminute, as I am out of pocket with hotel/flight bookings. To assist with my complaint would you be able to send me copies of that email via private message? Thank you.

Just wanted to say thanks rachelandgrommit for posting this deal. I managed to go to Melbourne from Aberdeen for my birthday for £358 return. It was my first time in Australia and I had an amazing time. In case anyone is still in dispute with lastminute.com the following info may help...

Lastminute did try to cancel my flights by email saying:

"We regret to inform you that, due to a fare filing error, your ticket was advertised and issued at an undeniable and recognisably erroneous fare and the airline has therefore annulled it. As a result of this, we regret to inform you that your booking has been cancelled.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this inconvenience. Rest assured, we will immediately refund the entire amount that was charged for this booking via the same card you used to make the reservation. Please note it may take few days for the refund to appear on your account’s statement.

Kind regards,

Customer Care Team

lastminute.com"

However I had a later email saying:

"I have tried to contact you this morning by phone with regards to your booking with us for flights from Aberdeen to Melbourne.

Due to a system error you were amongst the recipients of a massive communication sent to some of our customers concerning the cancellation of your flight.

Please rest assured that the communication was erroneously sent to you and there will be no difference to your reservation.

The details below that my colleague Charlotte has sent to you are valid for your reservation:

Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me by email or call me."

Not sure what there criteria was for honouring some flights and not others but it seems a bit sketchy that they can just cancel people's flights after sending confirmation, particularly if people had booked other non refundable items like accommodation, activities, car hire etc after having their bookings confirmed.

I can confirm I've received a £100 no-catches voucher from last minute. They called a couple of days ago, voucher landed in my inbox today. I've used them before, but not enough to be a 'vip'.

I haven't heard back neither. I got my refund from lastminute.com but Qantas are sending me in circles with my seating refund. I have been verbally told and also written confirmation of a refund within 10 days, that has not happened.

They made a complete mess of this pretty clueless customer service (Offshore so doubt you will get any UK advisers all CS is pretty much in India) who read off a script so no point in phoning them I wouldn't waste your time or effort doing that, they sent me the cancellation e-mail followed by refund of payment e-mail, then they sent me another one to advise a change in booking pretty much had all flights showing booked again but not on any of the airlines sites, then followed up with another e-mail today apologising again for their complete incompetence as a company regarding the e-mail advising my flights had been booked for a 2nd time but rest assured I will be getting my full refund as flight bookings were cancelled by airline.

I doubt no matter how much complaining anyone attempts to do they wont offer any kind of compensation their own T&Cs advise if they price a flight wrong they will attempt to contact you with the right fare cost via a phone call or issue a refund. I haven't read anyone who has posted to say that Lastminute or Bravofly actually made the effort to lift a handset/headset and placed a phone call to say apologies we cant honour these prices as we were given wrong info, taxes weren't added to flights etc?

I have just booked direct with an airline to save any hassle doubt I would use Lastminute again after this experience, I have benefited from some really cheap flights/hotels from similar sites never used Lastminute before doubt I will ever again.

I messaged their Facebook page and received a reply quite quickly promising a phone back from the relevant department regarding the fare error. Got the call today and was informed that it was a FlyBe codeshare error and that they hadn't included one of the mandatory taxes and there wasn't anything LastMinute could do for me. He did say that they had cancelled over 300 bookings as a result...

I've been trying to find LastMinute.com's email - I do not like phoning people and would prefer to have a proof of what they've told me. I do want to attempt to challenge them on the whole 'undeniably erroneous prices' thing (don't see why it's so hard to believe it could be a sale, there were flights with other airlines for £450, we got ours for £300, didn't seem like that much of a stretch)

Well just spent the past 30 mins talking to a Qantas customer service guy who could barely communicate, he or they (Qantas) are trying to fob off that it is lastminute.com who I have to go through to receive a seating refund!

I tried explaining to him that they hadn't played a part in the reservation and that I had done it separately and directly on the Qantas website (which he is bound to see on his screen). I had to take a break and put the phone down for my own sanity as the guy could not comprehend what I was explaining. He did act strange though and put me on hold for a while as he thought the tickets had not been confirmed and when he realised they had in fact been confirmed and issued he was confused as to why they were cancelled. Upon his return he told me that it was lastminute.com who had not paid the airlines?

I will try again later, although if anyone knows if they have a customer services email address instead as I cannot find one lol.

Not sure about paying extra for seats. I was able to select one for free after booking and didn't want to pay AUS$180 for a middle row seat with extra legroom when I already had a bulkhead seat.

I would probably chase Qantas up on this.
vyp3r_snyp3r
9 Feb 17 #229
I reserved the seating direct through Qantas (£91.31). I have it separate in my bank statement. I think I will have to get in touch with them, had hoped it would have been automatically refunded.

I've had my money refunded in full. Came from lastminute / bravofly and took 2-3 days.
Qantas have nothing to do with it as you paid lastminute who in turn should pay the airlines.

I can't check right now because my boyfriend's account was used, but will let you know when I manage to get him to check it.

Has anyone had any money refunded yet? I have a confirmation e-mail/receipt for seats including the reference number with Qantas but it says nearer the bottom it says, price paid £0...but it most certainly came out of my account and I'm also yet to recieve an email from Qantas in regards to a refund.

"probably wrong" doesn't mean it is wrong.

There are cheap fares, bargains etc. all the time not just in the airline business. Supermarkets sell things for half price but we don't think "bound to be a mistake price so I better not buy until I can pay twice as much".

As said, some of us have had bargain fares, some of us have lost out like with this one (for whatever reason) and some cracking deals have come through.

I'm know from experience to book straight away and deal with anything else later.
Lost out on a couple of very lucrative flights in the last week by delaying and none have been cancelled even though they were practically giving them away compared to the usual price.

There are many cheap fares that don't start in the UK.
Have a look at ex-DUB, ARN, GOT for example and you can fly somewhere for hundreds less than starting at Heathrow.
I.e. Got-LHR-LAX on BA in premium economy in Oct can still be picked up for around £480. Fly direct from LHR and close to £800. Quite a saving an not a mistake fare.

Sometimes it's specific flights and dates that yield cheap fares.
Had many in the US where you fly overnight and it costs a third of the other 30 flights that day. Or going indirect is quite often cheap.
Some flights are cheap on specific days of the week only and double on other days.

Search engines don't always pick up these fares nor do the airline websites.
I book through AA.com a bit and the price it gives isn't nessecarily the cheapest. Change one flight and you can pay loads less or more.
benlondon
9 Feb 17 1 #224
That's not the point, the point is you know it's a very low fare which is probably wrong and there will always be a chance it will get cancelled, whether it's been honoured before is not relevant
mikaylah
9 Feb 17 1 #223
I've flown Berlin - NYC for £120, Rome - Japan for £180, and Prague - Heathrow for £15 roundway with BA before.
Other people have flown for even better prices.

8 Feb 17 #221

If I were you I would be emailing back saying I disagree, and asking how they expect a consumer to know theres a pricing error when their own staff state, quite clearly The booking is rightly priced and confirmed with the airlines

If a member of staff confirms specifically that the price is correct, I think they would have a hard job arguing that undeniable and recognisably erroneous fare could apply.

They weren't £1 ffs and a member of staff confirmed they were priced correctly. I wouldn't take it on the chin!

8 Feb 17 #219
Not that I guess it matters, but Qantas say that the booking effectively elapsed and got cancelled because the ticket vendor didn't provide a reference (I'd read pay) the airline.

Reckon it's going to be a royal pain in the ... to get a refund on the seats. Already had an hour on the phone...

My bank balance has increased by a bit (doesn't say what it is yet but it's at least the amount of the fare).
mikaylah
8 Feb 17 #217

7 Feb 17 #215
I would have some serious reservations about the language used in that cancellation email - undeniable and recognisably erroneous fare. It's not like it was 37p each way. Guessing from this thread that there isn't much point complaining about it?

I also booked seats for the long legs of the flight direct with Qantas, anyone know how that refund would work? Do I have to apply or is it automatic (same question as above post I guess
vyp3r_snyp3r
7 Feb 17 #214
I agree, I had hoped they would be honored seeing as how they were confirmed and etickets printable including seats being able to be booked. I booked a few tickets including all the seating so I'm hoping Qantas and Emirates refund that money automatically too.
Krisp90
7 Feb 17 #213
Ridiculous. Flights are cancelled. I booked domestic flights for when I arrive in Melbourne and have now lost the cost of that flight as well. Getting people's hopes up for a holiday then it took off them after confirmation of flight, money took and etickets issued. Will never use last minute again. So disappointed and the customer service for Qantas and last minute regarding this is appalling.
xenole
7 Feb 17 #212
It's not a good thing, but if the flights are still showing, it could delay the refund and if they took months to remove them, you could be waiting until then for your refund.
At least I should have the money back sooner rather than later and it's better back in my pocket than theirs.

The WT+ fares show that fares of half the price do exist and the airlines do them either accidentally or purposely.
These were definitely intended.

As for the Qantas ones, maybe the one way fare was mistakenly picked up, maybe they were hit more than anticipated and decided to cancel the lot....No idea.

As I said, I've had fares of half the normal price or less in the past and recently so I don't assume something is a glitch unless so low as to arouse my suspicions I.e. the £200ish pricing.
Airlines do sometimes price low due to a new competitor on a particular route or to incentivtise people into flying from somewhere different that they're starting.

Well, at least we tried. You never know unless you strike whilst the iron is hot.
rachelandgromit
7 Feb 17 #211
Sorry it didn't happen, sometimes they get honoured and sometimes they don't :-(

I know lots have people have managed to make good of glitch/error fares and had tickets honoured but sadly this wasn't to be. I hope that someone somewhere did manage to get the flight honoured.

7 Feb 17 1 #210
The Premium Economy fare from Europe to Asia/USA Via London is like that to get people to fly with BA via London and also the taxes are less than flight from the UK so that help bring the price down.

"Quick Glitch Flights to Australia from Belfast/Scotland"
This was not a deal thought it was an incorrectly priced ticket.

You don't see the flight being cancelled as a bad deal? I'd say that is the worst kind if deal
xenole
7 Feb 17 #208
I'm happier having all the flights gone. It says to me that things are happening in the background rather than the fact they are still there giving the impression that until they are cancelled, nothing is going to happen.

Still don't see this as a bad deal.
My most recent good deals were in the BA sale in Dec/Jan where Zurich-London-Singapore in premium economy and Sweden-London-LAX were both around £470, a good £300-£700 less than the usual fares (think GOT-LHR-JFK is close to £800 at present).

JustinJ
6 Feb 17 #197
How did you manage to cancel without charge?
xenole
6 Feb 17 #196
I didn't feel the prices some were paying were that bad. OK, £200ish probably, but with a lot in the low to mid-£300s, these didn't seem too bad. I've seen £400 or so fares to Australia before and have flown things like Oslo-Los Angeles for £250 before due to it being far cheaper to fly ex-Scandanavia rather than direct from London.
The general price at present seems closer to £600 so it's possible the return was in fact just the one way fare (Qantas seem to be doing some promo fare at present for around £300 outbound, £294 inbound) - have a look at their website and the boxes that appear with the prices could easily make you think that's the total fare.

Managed to cancel my LHR-BHD flight without charge so not out of pocket there.

I had a similar situation with BA a few years ago, a 7 night trip to Las Vegas came up on the holiday finder; £50 for flights and hotel. Booked it anyway thinking it was worth a try, money taken out of account and confirmation received. About a week later they phoned up to say they would have to cancel it due to it being an obvious price error (this was stated in the terms and conditions also) Soon after this my friend I was travelling with decided to check the website and was able to book the same deal again (apparently there was a 20 minute window where it came back)
So we said to them you have stated this was a price error yet you have failed to rectify this so we refuse to accept it as we have been able to book it on two separate occasions...After much back and forth and us refusing to give up we were given £1000 credit towards a trip of our choice.
Hopefully a few of us will have similar luck in taking on lastminute.com

Right so against my better judgement I called BA who, after a long hold, told me the Qantas flights had been cancelled. I then called Qantas who told me to speak to lastminute and couldn't confirm if the flights were cancelled. Called lastminute and the guy went on the FlyBe website (my first flight is with them) while I was on the phone and found the complete booking right away and asked me to do the same to confirm, the flights are still showing! Very strange, perhaps some hope yet.

He told me to go through the web checkin rather than manage my booking: http://www.flybe.com/checkin/web-checkin.htm

I've tried the BA App, Qantas website and also the Finnair website (sometimes good for seat selection when say BA won't let you). Checkmytrip also only shows the BHD-LHR / LHR-BHD flights.
No sign of any Qantas flights now.

Got 2 x booking reference numbers and an e-ticket number from BravoFly / Last Minute.
The Finnair website confirms the e-ticket number.

My first flight from Belfast-Heathrow is on the 18th Feb and the Qantas flight would have been on the 19th Feb at 11:55am so less than 2 weeks away.

xenole
6 Feb 17 #175
There's an e-ticket number in the email I received from Bravo Fly / Last Minute.
Checkmytrip shows the same.
Everything was there yesterday when I checked.

Tripled checked on the Finnair website and that too displays only the BHD-LHR / LHR-BHD flights and shows the same e-ticket number from the email.

Would love to believe EU261 would be of use here due to cancellation within 2 weeks but I'm sure "exception circumstances" would be quoted here for "a mistake fare".

Anyone who has been ticketed on this, please for god sake do not contact the airline(s) or the travel agent for confirming whether you have been luck or not. You risk bringing attention to your own ticket in the first instance and that might follow for the others. No one can assure you that you would fly even if you have had the response from your travel agent...just telling you from my own experience. Lay low and you might fly.

All I've got so far is a cheap postioning flight to Belfast and parking at Heathrow. Should things fall through, I was originally intending to go to Germany that weekend so I can still make of the parking if need be and I would only lose £17.50 on the flight.
Accommodation wise, not sure whether to book a cheap hostel (£45?) for a couple of nights (paying a few £ deposit that can be used against a future booking if need be) or go through some travel site where I don't have to pay for a hotel until I arrive.

I would not make any more plans yet, I have seen tickets like this cancelled 3-4 weeks after being booked. Having an eticket does not mean it won't be cancelled. I can't see how they could let us keep these tickets as it would mean flying some of us for free other for under £100 after taxes.

Lastminute.com is comparable to Expedia.com that issue tickets very quickly and do not cancel them unless they have been instructed to do so by the airline. Furthermore, the main airline of my itinerary (Qantas) had honoured error fares in the past. Plus lots of the online cheap flight clubs are saying this wasn't a price error, just a very good deal

So given the above mentioned factors and the fact I have eticket numbers and confirmed payment as well as I am able to manage the reservation on the airlines page, do you think it is honored? Would you suggest to already start planning for the trip?

They were around the £500 mark from Manchester also. Although this deal was good, it's a lot of hassle adding an extra stop and more hours of travel to an already long transit. I'd happily pay more for the convenience when it comes to long haul.

Looks like deal may have just ended...

I was getting fares about 11.50pm for £320 Belfast to Sydney/Melbourne and now coming up over £480 for fares in November and December.

While £480 is still a rather good fare, fares around the £500 are more and more common these days, and criop up quite regularly... But by the time you have added flights from Birmingham to Belfast on to the fare it really isn't worth it for me, and will wait for some more direct fares around this price to become available.

You'll pay a huge premium for the time of year. We have been Oz 4 times now and our last trip was when we did NYE in Sydney. We ended up flying from UK to Dublin spending a weekend there, then flying to Bali, spending Xmas there then flying from there to Darwin, a few days in the Northern territory then flying to Sydney then back to Milan a couple of days there and then home with the long haul flights to/from Bali with Etihad. It ended up costing a fraction of what peak time prices were for flights to Oz at Christmas and New Year and we were lucky we actually wanted to see the other places so it wasn't inconvenient for us. I remember 'normal' flight prices were close to £1k and that was with airlines like China Southern. If you are willing to go a long winded way round you may get something but it's price V convenience.

Anyone who has booked, when you check your booking on the Qantas/BA/Emirates site does it list the flight from Belfast/Aberdeen as that seems to be handled by Flybe? If you have a separate booking number you might be able to skip it. I'm tempted but don't know if I can be bothered to fly across to Belfast/drive to Aberdeen (6-7 hours) then back across to Heathrow. Last time I flew to Christchurch it already took me 32 hours, not sure I want to add another 10 onto the trip.

I've been doing some research on flights as wanted to go away and they are always much cheaper from Belfast because people who don't live there have to get a plane to the airport! But all in all it's a good deal. You could probably get a ticket to Belfast for less than £20 with easy jet

Qantas isn't that keen on me. I go to "manage my booking", enter the ABCDEF number in the email from Lastminute, type my surname in and it deletes the booking originator every time. If I then type something random like rrrrrrr, it takes me to another page saying there's an error and then lets me enter it successfully.

Only problem I seem to have now is that I have an Aer Lingus flight from BHD-LHR. Obviously the cheapest fare possible so can't select seats and no idea if my baggage allowance is only 7kg carry-on for a regional flight (nothing checked without extra cost).
Planning on travelling with a small backpack anyway and it push comes to shove, I'll leave it in my car at LHR, fly to Belfast and then collect it on my return.

No problem entering my BAEC number on the Qantas website and selecting seats on the A380 and the LHR-BHD (BA codeshare) flight and these have all appeared in the British Airways app now.

Can't believe Qantas said I could select an extra legroom seat for only $180 if I wanted. It's a middle seat at the back of the plane as well!

The bookings really need to mention the stop in Dubai a bit more. Hard finding this out and how long you stop for.
Want to see if there's time for a shower on the return or if possibly 2hrs is enough time to visit the Emirates First Class lounge.

You can do it that way (only on the return part of the journey) if you don't have checked luggage that you need to collect in Belfast.

And the dates I found for the prices I mentioned before were all between February-May. However, I just tried one of them again after talking to one of my friends in Aus and they've now started to go up by £20+.

lhwjud
29 Jan 17 1 #89
You can abandon the last leg so long as you have hand luggage only as the checked luggage will be checked through to Belfast in this case.

However you can't board the flight anywhere else other than Belfast. As a rule of thumb, no show will automatically result in all subsequent legs being cancelled.
matwalaboy
29 Jan 17 #88
Have never done such multiple stop flights but assume you can't book the entire trip but decide to board from a specific point right? I.e. Book Belfast return - fly out from Belfast but on the return leg not take the flight to Belfast but end at Heathrow ?
rachelandgromit
29 Jan 17 #87
Yes, there are some crazy fares from Scotland too, didn't have time to do all the screen shots for those as I posted this at 4:30pm starting with the Belfast ones which caught my eye first and was then getting ready to go out!

kkcc
29 Jan 17 #84
Where does it state this? I have never found this to be the case when I've booked codeshare/partner flights.

This time last year I flew to Melbourne with China Southern (two checked bags) on a combination of CS and Air France (one checked bag) flights. I was allowed two bags without any added cost when I checked in with Air France.

And the single flight you're referring to most likely means it's only stopping for refuelling before taking off again, no?
kkcc
29 Jan 17 #83
I've been so tempted by these flights since I received an email from a travel site I follow. I just seriously can't decide on the location or dates etc.

looks good, but I would be a bit wary if these will be honored.

The flight details are incorrect in that it only shows a single stop for each direction. The LHR-SYD sector is listed as one flight, where in reality it stops in Dubai.

I'm not saying don't try - you might as well! Obviously this is more hassle than its worth if you normally fly out of London, and you'll need to purchase checked baggage for FlyBE

Qantas is great tho, probably my favorite airline

Flight operators often over book a flight on purpose as people don't show. If you don't take your seat at Belfast, it will be filled by someone who was 'over booked' at Belfast or opened to customers at Heathrow or at the mid flight connection.

Overbooking is the reason why people sometimes get "free" upgrades on a flight, or if upgrades are full too, they're offered an upgrade on the next flight as an "apology".

Standard air operator practice that just ensures flights are at or near to capacity where possible.

18th Feb-22nd Feb.

Some days I looked at went up to £700+, others dropped.
I had things like fly out Saturday, come back Tuesday was £650. Come back Wednesday, £310 etc.

The fare calendar thing is useless. Just says "click here for 95% of the days".
For me, just trying different dates to see what came up.

Australian Class 651 Visa applied for as well. Got one last time I was there for 3 weeks, but probably don't need one as they offer a 72hr transit Visa I think. Even so, handy to have should I pop back again in the next year.

I settled on a nutty trip to Melbourne next month. Really want to do a day trip to Sydney one day just for salt & pepper squid at a place next to the Opera House.

Easy to get to Belfast from the London area but not as easy outside. Ryanair wanting £121 for a flight from MAN-DUB so I'll pop down to London, blow 4500 Avios + £17.50 on a BA flight to Belfast, spend a few hours there and then catch a flight to LHR.
Fly to Dubai the following morning and maybe see some of the Emirates First Class lounge if there's time.
Get to Melbourne at 21:25 and then spend a couple of days there before heading back.
Will most likely miss my connecting flight back to Belfast when I get lost at Heathrow.
I'll just book a cheap hostel for a couple of nights.

Now need to see if I can get time of work or if I need to be struck down with something

Ended up costing £315. I'll hopefully survive economy for that price!

Just a Saturday in Feb but have seen it in May as well. There's a 5:30pm flight from BHD-LHR some days rather than a 7:30am departure so avoids the overnight in Belfast if you don't live there.

Seems the Qantas flight is a codeshare with Emirates so OneWorld / British Airways etc. status probably gets you nothing.

No idea if I can use my BA status here for seats / Avios gaining or the possibility on an Emirates codeshare puts that on hold. Same with popping into the BA first lounge in T3 or the Cathay Pacific lounge before the LHR-MEL flight.

£690 for me to MEL in March
Found! Oh god they are all 30-40hrs+

Seriously if you are on a budget do it, but budget 2 days hotel/hostel rest on arrival! Then add some jet lag!

20+ hours is bad enough LOL

If you can do £500 you wil get 22-24hr flight specials.

PS) Winter in Mel is like Scotland, most days 4 seasons pass by repeatedly - you get the odd day or days of warm winter sun

And I'd happily go in winter as my partner is living over there, so I don't care about the weather really...

The dates are naff but know anyone who is going travelling for a long time, it's cheaper than one way fares!
