Got an email about this earlier - saw it in store too, unfortunately I was in a rush so didn't get a good nose around!

It is worth noting that all the items listed with the exception of the toothpaste & the bolognese sauce were 2 for £1 before this 50p event.

The pound shops are very good for some stuff but yeah, everything in this deal was always 2 for £1.
When they said core range I expected a load of products that they actually sold at £1 previously.

Hm, that's a bit cheeky.
I go for the 3 for £1 Bird's Custard or Rice Pudding tins from Poundworld anyway :stuck_out_tongue: (though they go out of stock quickly).

Some of the core range are good value - the Macaroni Cheese pasta bake, but some of the items are what they usually sell for 2 for £1 - ie, Oreo biscuits and the facial wipes.

Yes, I wondered too if "core range" meant a wider variety of products. Unfortunately I haven't been in my Poundland(s) the last few days but will make a trip tonight.
I suppose it's good if you only want to buy one of the 2 for £1 items!

They get around it because the stuff scans at £1 each if you only buy 1 so technically a £ each; but still a con. The bolognese sauce are only the small ones too.

I have been caught out by a "2 for £1" item, buying one for £1 and not realising (months ago) - because the shelf didn't have the sign up. Then I see on the MSE Poundland thread everyone's buying two of them! Annoying when that happens!

They do the bags of Haribo for 50p, seems good value and they certainly were never 2 for a quid

That's right! I remember seeing Haribo bags for 50p! I'll take my phone in with me and take a few pictures of the 50p items (my local is open till 9pm tonight).

The haribo that's 50p is a smaller size than the ones they sell for £1. The bags they usually sell for £1 have 20% extra free , theses ones don't scan at 50p so it's a bit of a con.

Okay, here's some quick pictures from Argyle Street, Glasgow tonight.
You can see Haribo Star Mix or Super Mix, Cheddars, Maryland Treats Big Cookies, Cadbury Choc Chip Cookies, Oreos Mint or Strawberry Cheesecake, Butterkist Sweet Popcorn, Ambrosia Devon Custard or Creamed Rice, Mug Shot sachets, Dolmio Carbonara sachets, Dolmio Pasta Bake (Macaroni & Cheese), Cup A Soup sachets, Heinz soups - Tomato or Vegetable, Crest Decay Prevention Mild Mint Toothpaste, Pure Deep Cleansing or 3 In 1 x 2pk Wipes.
A few rows are a bit empty, not sure what was there!
I also saw a big jar of Ragu Original in the Trongate store the other day in the 50p aisle.
A variety of drinks at 50p (they're usually 2 for £1 though) - Dr Pepper, Tango (apple or orange), Vimto (no sugar variety too), Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Aloe Vera, Nestle Pure Life Still Spring Water. Think the ones cut off the photo in the top row are Fruit Shoots (?).
I always buy the 500ml bottle of Drench or a can of J2O as I'm not too keen on most soft drinks (available in other stores, didn't see them in this one on that day).
This picture is from the Pet aisle (dog, specifically), photo is a bit blurry (sorry) but I think the 50p item is these bones/rawhide.
May be more 50p items out there. I'll look in smaller stores tomorrow.

Here's another quick snap from Trongate, Glasgow earlier. Pretty much the same items on offer but I can also see Haribo Gold Bears, Hula Hoops Golden Hoops, McVities Tasties Tarts - Strawberry or Apricot, Butterkist Toffee or Sweet Popcorn.

Also saw Huggies wipes and Cadbury's Mallow-type biscuits. Took a picture of the items that weren't shown in previous pictures but I seem to have wiped it!

Here's pictures of more 50p items - from Union Street, Glasgow earlier.
Huggies Wipes (Natural Care or Pure varieties), Dolmio Pasta Bake jars (two varieties), Batchelor's Savoury Rice packets, Pot Noodles, Morning Fresh Washing Up Liquid (Meadow Fresh or Lemon). The top shelf has some sort of body spray that I've helpfully cut out the picture!
This one is blurry (oops) but has Plain Terry's All Gold (not very big boxes but decent for 50p), Batchelor's Pasta 'N' Sauce packets, Hob Nobs.

Poundland is not really a bargain store any more - as years roll by they just give you less for the £1. Last straw for me was when I spotted a bunch of 3 Peperamis - when they're supposed to come in fives!

It happened awfully quickly - went from 5 to 4 - then to 3 - in a few months.

I see, that's not good.
Suppose like everything, you've got to keep a close eye on what rival supermarkets sell and shop wisely.
