noisyassassin to joerob1972

they aren't needed for all games, but the games that do use the move controllers seem to offer the best experience.

not sure about if to get one or not. I was really interested in the cinematic mode but seeing as I bought the ps4 pro and 4k telly for better resolutions etc, using the low res of the psvr seems a bit daft.
Has anyone got any experience of the cinematic mode?
noisyassassin to nutterburger
19 Jan 17#22
I haven't used the cinematic mode yet, but the resolution isn't as good as a TV, and wearing the VR headset is tiring on the eyes.
creation to nutterburger
19 Jan 172#23
Having a ps4 pro will benefit the playstation vr, as a lot of games run at higher resolution on the vr headset as well as other improvements in graphics. Personally I wouldnt recommend it if your primary interest in getting it is for cinematic mode and not for gaming.
bauer to nutterburger
19 Jan 171#30
I like cinematic mode, it's a lower resolution than you'd get on your television but I find it brilliant for fifa/pro evolution where I'm usually sat 1 foot away from the tele

Heat added for the heads up of new stock. I'll be fu****d however if I'm going to spend £350 on this on the top of 2 Move controllers - needed for the optimal experience - AND the PS camera. Don't get me wrong, I'm desperate to trial said hardware, but I'd be very surprised if it got used much.

They have been sold out since October last year, stock has released here and there for maybe a sum total of 5 minutes each time - therefore RRP is a deal with this item as availability is the value.

For anyone thinking about buying one, PLEASE try it out before you spend your cash. I just sold mine after persevering through motion sickness for 2 months. Tried all sorts of games, used on PSPro with latest updates, and despite all the hoping that it'd get better...it didn't.
Thankfully they are still impossible to buy, so I just sold it for the price I paid on launch, and had some fun at no loss...BUT this might be you. Seriously, try it out for a good 30mins before you buy! For those that can stomach it, I'm jealous.... a BRILLIANT experience but only if you can avoid the sweats and nausea! Best of luck.

More than 2 million global sales, from memory something like double the oculus and vive combined (in less time). I believe the stock issue to be primarily down to the complex production process for the lenses.

For the person looking for feedback on the cinematic mode, although it is a lower resolution, I enjoy the feel of a screen similar to a big screen projector. Been enjoying Driveclub on it and watching the live fa cup footy via BBC iplayer.
I do seem to suffer some 'drifting' where the screen seems to want to drift left so you have to re-center every now and again.
It was one of the features I was looking forward to using and I'm still enjoying it myself...

I have a so-so relationship with VR -
have tried the Vive which was absolutely fine, no sickness at all (the whale demo)
I also have a Gear VR which is fine for interactive (or 360) movies, but games where your 'body' moves make me feel yoink immediately. I've played the Gunship game which I'm fine with, but Temple Run - oh my god, had to rip it off my head made me feel awful in 30 seconds flat.
Does anyone have any idea on how PSVR fares against those, as I LOVE the VR experience!

I sold mine and to be honest I'm sure - knowing Sony's habit of launching things on 12 months cycles (look at their Alpha camera and phone businesses) they'll release V2 before the end of the year.
I sold it mainly because of my problem with nausea, but also partly as I was disappointed in how low res things looked. That 'grainy' screen and low resolution images, even in Cinema mode was just not that appealing (yes I use Ps4 Pro). if all the promo videos showed what you ACTUALLY see in the VR headset, rather than the full HD shots of the social screen... then I bet they'd struggle with sales.
Like i said, V2 will be much better (if it sells well enough to make it viable... Sony LOVE to drop things if they don't make money!)

Same deal. ThumperVR was amazing, but as soon as I got to MOVE and look around in a game, ie RIGS and that was me. Sweaty nauseous mess. Same with fast rollercoaster parts of Rush of Blood and frantic action of Battlezone. Curiously DriveclubVR was ok (so long as used a convertible car - varies on track too).
As I said in an earlier post... TRY IT OUT before parting with £350!!

I started with the standard and upgraded to a pro. I do have the move controllers. I find the games that use the move controllers the most immersive and more enjoyable. There isn't a lot of difference, the pro has less pop up that I've noticed and slightly sharper graphics, I've also heard the frame rate is better but can't say I've noticed much of a difference while I had the standard.

So if the PlayStation VR is as bad as the pussy and some others are saying why has it sold so many units?

Maybe because it's better for some, and worse for others? Also, no need for insults, grow up.
MyPetFrog
19 Jan 171#68
Well Trollmor40, it's estimated to have sold about 750k units, to a user base of around 50Million PS4's. So yes around 1.5% of PS4 owners bought one and judging by the amount sold on eBay etc (the %age number of auctions are high compared to the %age number of PS4 consoles for sale) there are lots of people selling them on instead of keeping them. Either they don't like the way it messes up their hair, or they feel ill playing it for longer than 30minutes. Either way, sales are pretty poor. But hey yeah, some pussies just can't handle it
