If you got philips hue in your house already. You would want this too. Lowest I've seen for the Philips Hue Go

I've bought the Bloom for £35 wish I wait for the Go now

if you don’t have it it’s hard to appreciate what it can do. The colours are a bonus, but not why I use it - it’s mainly for the smart features: my lights wake me up in the morning, come on just before I arrive home, turn off when I leave if I accidentally leave them on, if I get out of bed between 1200 and 0600 one turns on automatically (using motion sensor) at a low red so I can see where I’m going without burning my retinas, I schedule them to turn on at times throughout the day with an element of randomness to make it look like people are home whilst I’m on holiday. Lastly, when I click on an activity for my harmony remote they are a part of it, they dim down automatically if I’m going to watch a movie.

These are the most useful features to me (but there are more), colours is just what I use to show them off to people if they ask about them, but I’d say I use them about 10% of the time. Of course, the energy they save goes on top of it all.

It’s 300 lumens by the way, which is as bright as any other desk lamp I have here.

Up to £69.95 now on Amazon :disappointed:
Shame it didn't stay around the £50 mark with there being a £10 off £50 spend today only !

Unfortunately to set up a wake up routine you will need the hub. But you might ant to check out another product from the Philips hue range called wake up light and/or wake up alarm clock

Got one of these when reduced last July. Mightily impressed with the range & vibrancy of colours. My young niece and nephew think I'm some kind of wizard controlling it via Alexa. Obviously I'm getting another one now, cheers OP. Hot.

Taken a punt on this. Don't have any hue lights yet and know I need a bridge to make the most but still waiting for an excellent B22 starter deal. Thought best snap this offer up while I can and will get more out of it onece I get this whole smart home thing going!

I actually ended up buying this. Realised that yes, even at 1.5hours battery life, it's still going to be like a Bloom but I can put it in the bathroom for the missus. She loves chilling out in the bath after cycling.

Sorry I misread a review on amazon about this.

It's called mood lighting grandad.

And it's plenty bright enough to use for reading...
Vanderlust
11 Jan 17 #3
People saying they're only getting 1.5 hours or so out of it. Bit pathetic given the size of it.

Shame, I'll hold out for the Bloom to come down again. Heat anyway good price.

Just so you know the LEDs in this have better colour than blooms - just want I’ve read. It’s apparently the difference between 2nd and 3rd gen. this also has the advantage of a battery so it is more useful than bloom
brookysm to Vanderlust
12 Jan 17 #40
Much brighter than the bloom and can be used in exactly the same way - you don't have to run it on battery power.

Does this need a hub or can it work independently?
Scazza to germainsophie

I have read it will work without the Hub/Bridge but by using it with the Hub/Bridge it offer much more.
jaypee24 to germainsophie

Can switch on and off without the hub/app but then you wouldn't be able to change colours or dim etc or use the app at all.
brookysm to germainsophie
12 Jan 17 #38
Doesn't need a hub, bit awkward to use as the button is on the back but it does a few different colours and you can dim or brighten it.

Thanks for your reply, it obviously is nice for you to be able to do that, but it wouldn`t suit me. I just like as natural ambient light as possible` Colouring it would just be distracting. But it seems lots of others don`t agree or want to try it, judging by the heat this thread has got!

11 Jan 17 #33
Thanks for your reply, I can see some of the smart features could be useful if you are organised ! Most of my lighting is now LED or fluorescent, so unless I want to live at a lower light level, I won`t be saving energy. 300 lumens is only 20watts of old style lamps.and to me the shape of this lamp is just a semi-circle of light non directional, so not a lot use for illuminating something, not very pretty to look, unless it is maybe cycling through its colours but that would be boring or annoying after a while, to me.
But, different strokes...

11 Jan 17 #32
I kind of agree... BUT! It is really good to be able to alter the white "balance", you can have a bright bluish white light if you are working late at night, or a yellowish white if its late night watching TV on the sofa.

I also have a hue strip behind the TV. If you watch sport then you can set it to a green light and it actually looks really good.

Thanks for the answers. I'm a newbie to all this and was wondering if it's possible to use this as follows (or is there a better way?)

I want to put this in the kids room so it comes on automatically at about 7 15 am, so my kids start waking up by themselves! I've tried alarm clocks etc but they're not very effective.

I can't put a hue bulb or lifx bulb due to the current fittings etc and I wasn't previously aware of this product.

Would this be OK to do without a hue hub? I'm not in London and the hubs are quite expensive. Or is there a different way of doing this?

The light output is pretty good tbh, We have a 3, the come outside when we are in the hot tub, they do set a nice scene in the living room, but more than that we have used lighting to help with bedtimes for our baby. he knows red lights mean sleep time. And if he wakes in the night and the Hue in his room is red, its not up time & will generally go back to sleep or play in his cot (he's only 11 months but seems to respond amazingly well to the colour cues).
In total we have 7 (3 Hue GO, 3 normal hue bulbs, and an old Bloom from before Hue was commonplace which was never meant to work with Hue, but does (instructional videos online how to make it talk to Hue hub)). I think they're great.
The other use is a flash to tell you somebody is at the door (we have SkyBell HD, you can mute the ringer so you dont wake your baby and have your lights indicate there is somebody at the door). Equally you can (but we dont) use integration with IFTTT to tell you when you get email, calls, facebook messages, the weather etc.
Plenty of uses beyond "mood lighting".

Awesome, did not know that, will try it our tonight! (looks like I don't read the manuals either)

11 Jan 17 1 #18
Not strictly true. The on/off button allows you to choose a number of different colour changing mode sequences, such as candle light. You can also choose different colours on their own. You will need the hub to change brightness levels and the 64K colour variations.
On battery power the output of the light is halved and automatically switches off after 2hrs, this is to save the battery when connected to a hub. You then have to reconnect to the charger/mains supply for the light to power on.
On mains power the light goes into standby mode rather than off. I expect people who complain about the battery life don't read manuals.

It certainly does a good job as a table lamp to light my room so I don't need to turn on the main lights, not sure what makes you say that? I have this lamp.

Also, no it is not too dim, quite bright in fact and perfect for reading (again, coming from someone who has it and uses it daily).

Maybe, but I don`t have any.
I can`t personally see the point of coloured lights in ones home. Unless for a brief time during a party?
And I can`t see that this is a `table lamp` To me a table lamp usually provides direct light so you can read or eat and indirect light so that you don`t need to turn on the main room lights. This is too dim to provide indirect lighting to a room and is barely able to provide enough light to read by (for instance) going by the Amazon video you need to sit in near darkness to appreciate it anyway. Its use with email etc is useful of course.
Voted hot for the price!
