Would have got one if I hadn't managed to snag a Samsung Blu-Ray player from Sainsbury's a couple of weeks ago for £30. :-)

This is probably a stupid question but here goes - I see this has a USB port . Does this mean i could view photograph's i have on a memory stick on the television that this DVD player would be connected to ? This would make it an even better deal for me to get my mum as i want to show her some photo's i have no other ( obvious to me ) way of showing her. Thanks.

Oh yes, before I forget, it's not just fancy picture watching you can pull-off via the USB Socket on these types of DVD Players, you can use it for some fancy movie watching too!, via supported Movie Formats (within reason?), AVI, MPG/MPEG 1 & 2, VCD, etc? (the DVD Player itself/Box, &/or Manual will bring you more up to speed of the exact nitty-gritties of the above mentioned criteria, etc? + that of the Picture/Image Formats supported too, but typically, at least JPG/JPEG & GIF, with some also supporting BMP & TIF/TIFF too, etc, etc, etc ... ) :-)

As this doesn't have a HDMI output the photos wouldn't look very good if you are connecting to a large TV via SCART I imagine. For photos you'd be better off with a device that can output 1080P provided your TV is at least 1080P.

Depend's how you look at it?, I don't own the above DVD Player, so can't say either way for sure?, but I'd assume 720p would be more than ok to show/display some simple pictures upon a TV screen?.

The commenter mentioned it was for his Mum, I doubt she'd be none too bothered whether the TV she's watching it on has HD qualities, HD-Ready qualities, 3D qualities, or whatever?, as long as she's able to see those pictures to a reasonable 'standard', I'm sure she'd be more than happy right?, as per the OP's Product Description above: "this stylish DVD player boasts a front USB port so you can enjoy your favourite music, images and Xvid movie files on its large screen via your USB device.".

It doesn't specify or deny SCART capabilities?, I personally don't know?, as I was simply brainstorming connectivity idea's at the time? (hence me mentioning multiple connection interfaces at the time?).

If SCART is present, it'll give you something along the lines of old skool VHS quality 480p quality (or thereabouts?), which is fine for some, and/or alternatively, the TV may be capable/fancy enough to be able to upscale all anyway to a fuller 1080p regardless? (as most standalone Blue-Ray Players are able to do to your DVD Disks also, etc), true, an HDMI Port is preferable, but it is possible to do both picture viewing and/or video watching via other connection method's other than HDMI alone? (similar to how everything functioned prior to HDMI's introduction in the first place). :-)

It all come's down to your wallet, and/or what your prepared to sacrifice and all the rest of it really? (but either way, you won't lose that much I'd have thought?).

If there's no HDMI probably better spending 1 or 2 pounds more and getting the Tesco or Sainsbury's own brand player.

She has a rented television of 20 odd inches. It's the way some older people still live. Not the foggiest if it's 1080P or not - i have no idea what that even means :confused: . Simply want to show my mum some pics , so not too worried about quality :smile:

For a 20 inch television using SCART when viewing photos could well be okay.
For larger TVs that are 1080P up scaling the low resolution image that SCART would transfer might look poor.

This is a crap player. Only 2.0 audio channels for starters.

The OP's DVD player has all my aforementioned peripheral inputs/outputs, etc (HDMI, SCART, and Audio/Video).

But for a 20+ year old TV?, chances are, her TV is most likely SCART, and/or Audio/Video connections.

Picture viewing quality of his pictures on his Mum's non-HD TV, via either of my aforementioned old skool peripherals, should/would be more than adequate for the basic usage in which is required of it?.

So more than ample for the job in hand ..... :-)

Good question. It didn't have any outputs for surround sound.

You could buy a second hand 'home cinema ' system for this money and you'd at least have good audio.

This is not multi-region. Can't find anywhere saying it is so? Has anyone got one and tried it with non-region2 discs?

Picked up one of these earlier....now further reduced to £20...had a few left in East Grinstead

Couldn't tell you from a DVD perspective as I'm using it as a CD player for my separates system....decent player thus far on that front. It's £20, it plays DVD's, CD's and has a USB port...it's worth a punt at that price.

Need one also (but moreso for DVD Films/Movies on the TV).

Slightly different note, DVD's are better, but I think the whole VHS concept was wayyy better when it came to certain things? (or maybe I'm in that boat by myself ..... lol). :-)
