I've not been keeping a close eye on this sort of stuff, but a quick google doesn't seem to support that and the 1050 is more power efficient/cooler running which is a concern for some people. Also NVidia seem to have the edge as an HTPC card.

is this a good upgrade from a amd 7850 2gb ATI card ?
The 1050 is nearly identical in performance (72% versus 73%) and OC's way better.
Also, if we enter the 1050ti into the discussion (if it is ever around 110 quid) it's way better.
But then again, if you jump up to 160 quid, the 470 and 1060 3gb start to creep into the discussion.
At 100 quid, this is a good card and won't require any extra power.
It will play all the games you want at 1080p with reduced settings for 60 fps.
I don't personally recommend *any* 100 quid gfx card, but if you only got that to spend, this is ok.

1060 gtx is more comparable but generally beats the rx480. Both are closer to 200gbp so a different price bracket than the 1050. It is a fair point that unless you want slow or cheap, it's worthwhile to spend a bit more.

This card is for those who want cheap. If you wanna play games on a budget and dont care about resolution or the fact that the amount of details wont be set to high on latest games then this is a good price atm.

It's only worthwhile if you're a regular game player I have a rather pedestrian Radeon 7700 and it plays everything at frame rates good enough for me and most people.

From what I've read, this'll eat up games from the last couple of years on full settings so represents good bang for buck...but..it won't last you very long with new games especially as it only has 2gb ram which seems to be quite limiting but as you'll be knocking detail settings down it might not be too serious?

Indeed - 2gb RAM? I don't know much about graphics cards, but surely that's a false economy?

Yup, I have an Asus 7770 and it eats BF1942, great fps, highest details available in 1080x1920 coupled with a beast of a processor, an Intel Quad Core Duo 9550.
Works for me
Edit: It's a 7790, just found the box in the garage under my Canon 40D equipment

In US $10 difference (accordingly to launch date prices) between rx 460 and gtx 1050 still justifies getting gtx 1050 as it is a faster card, but in UK with current prices (including delivery charge) difference is £15.48. Question is, is that amount worth 3-5 FPS more on average?
Voted hot though, as it is the cheapest price for gtx 1050 I have seen.

With all this PC master race kids around, respect to you for not being ashamed of what you've got and being happy with it. I have GTX 670. Overall I'm still happy with it, but waiting for the right deal on 8GB RX 480 as 1080p gaming is where I want to be.

Perfectly adequate for an entry level graphics card. Marketing people may convince you that to run a smartphone you need 4/6/8 GB of RAM , your computer will need more RAM if you want it to run and multitask smoothly. 2GB is fine for what this card is.

Not too sure..I think its only in recent times that some games have really eaten into the 4 GB kind of area. Like I said though, this card probably won't handle new games at top settings so at medium quality, 2GB might be fine.. I'm not an expert, but have a passing interest!

I'm not a gamer so I won't enter that battle, but using a 1050 for UHD desktop use. The 1050 supports HDMI 2.0b vs HDMI 2.0 stated in AMD spec for the 460. That b signifies HDR support so something to bear in mind. Incidentally the Hisense 43M300 makes a great monitor, full UHD 60Hz 4:4:4.

Yup, built my pc back in 2009 with the highest end components of the time and they still serve me well.
Only thing I've upgraded is the gfx card but as I spend so much time playing and enjoying BF1942 I'm happy.
Only snag is many of the new games I'm interested in like BF1 require 64 bit OS and I'm running Win 7 32.
Got a G29 steering wheel for Christmas so I could play iRacing then discovered it's 64 bit only plus all the extra gubbins you need like ddr4, i5 etc.
I'm reluctantly being pushed to upgrade at a cost :disappointed:

Your upgrade can be really quite cheap... I'm sure you can find parts cheaper in places but Aria has all this in stock now.
The G3258 K is a 64bit dual core CPU but you can easily overclock it with a Z97 motherboard. YouTube has tons of videos how to do this plus will need a decent cooler Here for example, I have listed a cheap one, and MOST games will only tax the first core or two anyway. I play ARMA 3 Exile, which is very heavy on the CPU, but this should cope very well and given its 'only' £64.60 vs £160+ it becomes an extreamly attractive purchase. To note, the motherboard and cooler are on superspecial deals

I think he means 64bit OS eg win764 ..cheaply available from Ebay (might also need the DVD install disc too. I really don't think a Pentium (even overclocked) is good enough for gaming in 2017, its not 1817!

Actually the latest Forza will use up to 8GB of VRAM on Ultra (4k resolution though). For 1080 gaming this card will suffice, just about, it has the advantage of newer architecture than some of the other cards people have posted on here - Nvidia is the definitely the way to go though, AMD can't put a candle to Nvidia still.
I wouldn't expect a hardcore gamer to go in for this card though - It just won't have the performance necessary to run newer titles in a years time.

I think the way to go budget wise is a G4560 and a H110. Use the stock cooler and you should have £40-£50 left for an upgrade to a GTX 1050ti. Better rounded system in my opinion.

If someone wants to keep costs down then around £120 less then a 4460, £100 from a i5 6500 and £135 from a i5 7400 (cheapest i5's from each range @ Aria) is a very strong saving. The cost of motherboard compared is also cheap. He mainly plays BF 1942 and although talking about playing BF1 and iRacing which without looking I would guess they wouldn't be that much affected by it only being a dual core. I'd doubt that the 7770 he already has or this 1050 (or even a 1060) would even come close to bottlenecking with a G3258 that's overclocked to something like 4.5/4.6GHz.
You are correct in pointing out that he meant a 64bit OS not 64bit CPU, but I also think you underestimate an overclocked G3258

14 Jan 17#28
Yes that is a fair option, I had not looked at that CPU. Not sure what the over clock will be if any currently, but again it's likely the 7700/1050 or (possibly) 1060 will be bottel necked... That could be the way forward

Will depend what performance you want. There is no noticeable overclocking as its not a unlocked part. @3.5Ghz and 4 threads generally in newer games you should be better off than just two higher clocked from the G3258. Just make sure the board has had had a BIOS update to allow Kaby Lake support.

Existing W7 key is not 32/64bit specific, but would have to reinstall W7 as 64bit version with 64 bit install media.
