I think I may have the opposite problem from most people..... my room is too big.
I currently have an old 800x600 projector in a spare room and its ceiling mounted 5 meters away from my 92" screen.
I'm assuming that both this projector and the aforementioned Benq will create an image way bigger than my screen?

I would say so yes - I am getting 84 inch from just over 2 meters with a little zoom used on the 1070 - which I bought from richers recently and is a great little projector for the cash so far.

how do you attach your tv boxes etc, if projector is placed high up wall and boxes are on stand, do you have to get long hdmi extensions, etc?

Yeh. If your projector is ceiling mounted then you'd poke the cables through the pole that the projector is mounted to, and then run them across the ceiling, down the wall, to your amp .
I've used ikea cable tidies. They stick to the ceiling and look fairly neat

You'd be better off getting a basic AV receiver to go with the projector . You don't want to be having loads of hdmi cables running from the projector.
If you don't want to spend though then you'd run 1 hdmi from the projector to your box, and if you wanted to switch it to a games console then just unplug hdmi from the box and into console. A bit of a faff but if you're budgeting then it saves having 2 hdmi cables running along the ceilibg

Urm... they tend to take a kettle plug like most electronics so the cable that comes with them is usually about 2 metres but you could buy a replacement that's as long as you like.
Better than a TV? That depends. No matter how bright the projector is it'll struggle in a well-lit room in the middle of the day. I have this model projecting a 130" image, I was fine watching cartoons in the daytime (though it was still a little washed out) but dramas and dark content were unwatchable. Dropping the blinds was enough to solve that. If you need to watch things in bright environments a TV will always be better. On the other hand if you like having a massive display a projector wins hands-down. It also wins in situations where you need a big display (my previous 50" plasma was dwarfed by the living room, not so with the 130" image from the projector).
iirc the W1070 is also a DLP projector with all the pros and cons that brings (it's a technology type, google it). This means there isn't any obvious way of telling which you'd prefer, you're just going to have to try them out, like sofas.

can this be mounted on a table say?
instead of ceiling mounted. just thinking I could use it occasionally for the football/ films etc..... but don't want it on show all the time. cheers

Yes, I have mine occasionally mounted on a camera tripod with a flat laptop tray attached.

I have a optoma HD141x but find it abit noisey anybody recommend an alternative budget is anything up to £600 I like the look of the BenQ models

if the lead is not long enough you could buy an iec extension - just be wary if there is not a lot of room in your cable trunking as they can be a little bulky at the connector. not sure it's a good idea to string too many together either.
I have benq th670, there are good and bad sides of comparing with this. First of all always check your drop distance , i mean if you are want a specific screen size between the projector and the screen with a specific diatance. You might forget about optoma as i did, as it has leas drop distance than benq. But main difference is if you are a movie lover and using it juat for watching movie in pitch darkness, go with benq, but if you have dimmed light and qatch tv as well, use optoma.
