Full Spec from OCUK:

Case Kolink Victory ATX Gaming Case
Power Supply 550W 80Plus Bronze Rated PSU
CPU Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.6GHz Kaby Lake Quad Core Processor
Motherboard Gigabyte Z170X Designare (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX
Cooler Sapphire Vapour-X CPU Cooler
Memory 16GB DDR4 Dual Channel Kit
Primary Hard Drive Intel 540 Series 240GB SATA Solid State Drive
Secondary Hard Drive 2TB SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card
Audio 7.1 High Definition Audio (read On Board)
Operating System Windows 10 64 Bit
3 year RTB Warranty

Personally I think this is a cracking deal for a latest Intel/nvidia based PC. Overclocked Kabylake I7, 16gb of good DDR4, decent MB, SSd and HDD, GTX 1070 awesomeness, Win 10 and a 3 YEAR warranty.

Usual disclaimers for the cold voters:

1: No I have not done a detailed PCpartpicker build for this but based on Avg prices it will be close and they do it for you (removes the fun but this way you have someone to shout if it wont power up apart from yourself!)
2: Yes its Windows 10 - get over it
3: CPU cooling - I was not familiar with this cooler but reviews seem good and its quiet
http://www.kitguru.net/components/cooling/luke-hill/sapphire-vapor-x-vapour-chamber-cpu-cooler-review/
4: Yes its a Z170 MB - Are there any real advantages to the Z270 not really but there are no doubt some that will disagree. Plus this is not a budget board its fully loaded.
5: It has a 3 year warranty - building your own is fun - but you wont get this level of cover on all components (yes its RTB but its covered)
6: OCUK - Bought plenty of stuff off them and found them to be good. No doubt there will be some that say they are the devil incarnate - perhaps but I have found them to be fine over many years.
7: spec- something you don't like? Then see if they will change it and do a deal for you - don't moan here.

Now all I need to do is find how to spend £1099 without she who must be obeyed noticing....

Here's a different reason to vote cold.

My son ordered a system from OCUK a few years ago and it was simply posted in a double corrugated cardboard box containing the PC case retail box holding the PC and no additional padding. On receipt the packaging had no signs of damage but removing the system from the packaging one of the corners of the case was so badly crushed the side panel could not be removed.

He eventually got the system back over a week later however they refused to replace the entire system and they only replaced the case despite the system having clearly been badly handled and or likely dropped. Within a year the drive and motherboard failed.

If you are going to order a prebuild do so from a company that packages systems to protect them in transit properly.

Or save even more go for Skylake instead, almost identical performance & cheaper too.

I just picked up an

i5 6600k for just under £150
Gigabyte Z170xp £54
Xigmatek Asgard case £15
8GB Ddr4 £38
240gb ssd £40

If you shop around & keep an eye out & have a little luck you can do a quality build at budget prices

Actually was in the process of looking for the parts to buy a new pc, this saves me the trouble. Even out of the box this thing will blow my 7 year old tower out of the water, anyone know how long it takes to get one of these shipped though? Ordered a chair from there last month and it took over a week :/

a new 6600k is around £240 so it's a good saving.

yeah this Graphics card is hamstrung in games that use high detailed textures meaning that if you run in ultra settings it will average over 60fps but drop to 30fps every now and then. so you have to turn textures down to high or medium. I got the card as a stop gap until I know if Vega is worth buying later this year.

I just done a skylake build, this was as cheap and thrifty as I could be for the following components:

i5 6600k £152 used from CEX
Asus maximus VIII Hero mobo £130 new from Amazon
16gb crucial ballistix ddr4 £64 new Amazon
gtx 1060 3gb £179 new ocuk
Corsair rm650x PSU new £77 eBay
Toshiba 240gb ssd new £40 Amazon (12months ago)
Toshiba 2TB HDD new £55 Amazon
coolermaster 212evo £24 new Amazon
NZXT s340 elite £90 new Amazon

That's just over £800, add £200 for the difference in GPU and it's £1000. knowing ocuk this probably isn't an i7 or z270 mobo like some of their descriptions say.

What they offer is still a good deal, I have found better parts for mine (still waiting for a really good GPU deal) but this took be months to get these parts together and fit it myself.

Good deal, heat added

Must have been quite a while, they've used the same style of packaging I got for a couple of years at least from my own knowledge. And to be fair that's the same returns policy most places use. I've had Dell do exactly the same thing and that's on proper production line systems with a company that can afford replacement. OCUK have gotten a lot bigger recently, but they are still a pretty small company. And if they took in and tested the components and they worked they were within their rights to send it back, after all if it works it works, and if it failed within 12 months they would have to warranty it anyway, if they had replaced it that would come out of their pocket as they can't get that back from their own manufacturers and suppliers as it's not technically faulty.

What you really should have done is simply returned it, it was still covered under distance buying and clearly damaged in transit so you would have been well within your rights to return it and just buy another.

But like I said it looks like the box inside the box that the systems normally come in now. With the damage and the way it's packed it very well could have came in a proper box and the courier could well have ditched it as they would have been the ones that did the damage. And my point was that wouldn't happen now unless someone deliberately tampered with the package. And the returns policy is pretty fair especially for a small company, certainly better than any other electronics supplier, PC World for example would likely have done the same thing, but made you wait 28 days for it. I've never had OCUK take more than a week to turn around a warranty, they even honour a lot of manufacturer warranties(as official suppliers) so even after 3 and 4 years they still cover a lot of parts which is more than anyone else has done. I actually had two identical parts once, one was from ebuyer and one OCUK, ebuyer made me go to the manufacturer and the turnaround was over a month and I had to pay shipping both ways, OCUK couldn't send the original part so they sent me a brand new better one, they even honoured the warranty on THAT as if I had bought it new 4 years later.

Well their packaging may well have changed, as I said it was a few years ago, regardless of his they rebuffed our concerns of damage to the system that might not have been evident to the eye, like VulcanProject said, the 900 was built like a tank so the impact to cause the damage must have been significant yet OCUK refused to replace the system.

Last PC I ordered from OCUK(3 months ago) came in a branded OCUK PC specific box on the inside and the system itself was back inside the box for the case with the internals of the case all packed with specifically cut foam and foam strips. That looks more like the box inside the box that the system came in. Honestly the one thing I dislike about OCUK as they clearly brand the boxes as theirs, and when people have problems a lot of the time I'm half convinced it's the couriers that are at the boxes(possibly to see if there is something worth stealing) or will damage things and then repack them so it doesn't look like it's their fault.

On the plus side if your motherboard and drives failed within 12 months they will replace those without any hassle. Generally I've never had any issues with returns with OCUK, quite a few times they've let me upgrade if they have something better on offer and can't do a like for like.

Used for those prices. Some parts I might pick up used though. I would a CPU and RAM that wasn't old. Solid parts that degrade slowly. They usually work perfectly or just don't work at all. A heatsink is just a lump of metal with fans you can replace if they fail.

A motherboard less so, more prone to problems but ok if it's not too old again. An SSD never without inspecting it properly first and seeing how many hours/writes it has on it.

worst retailer ever. Wouldn't buy from them. I have been trying to place an order with them recently and their sales team have no knowledge about their products, couldn't offer any alternatives, didn't seem interested either. Absolute joke.

If that's how their sales support is running then forget ordering anything to find out what their after sales support is like.

I know the 900 is built like a tank. They are really strong and solid heavy chunks of steel. To do that damage is a pretty hefty drop. It's a full height drop from carrying height.
dozstanford
27 Jan 17 #13
That's one heck of a keen eye you have there.

Given the amount of force that must have caused the damage we were both surprised the heatsink didn't snap the motherboard in half...

As noted earlier the side panel was jammed shut and you will note nothing has been fitted to prevent it moving in transit.

Just bought a system from OcUK. Wouldn't trust their description. In the email announcing it, the description also stated Z270 Mobo. Almost certain that this is an i5. Some aspects of their setup are utterly shambolic.

Also, if anything goes wrong, don't mention it on their forums. The OcUK premium also seems to buy you a dose of OcUK fan boy vitriol if you have the temerity to receive poor customer service.

On the other hand, the system I was sent was insanely well packaged. Wouldn't worry on that front.

Also just noticed description seems to state: "Intel 7th Generation Core i5 7600K overclocked to 4.6GHz!" So would double check. Otherwise it's a good deal considering price of the parts off the shelve just now.
