Brand new and picked up in the Leeds Centre store but other branches might have them too. A great device for the money.

So much misinformation (amongst some good info) in this thread... just to clarify the 2015 model has everything the 2017 model has, it also boasts an IR port, micro sd slot, and mini usb2.0 port.
Cpu/ram is exactly the same. Both have 4k 60p HDR currently. Both will have the new software by the end of the week/month that enables Google home. You could even buy a new controller and pair it with a 2015 shield.
If you can get a 2015 model for this price you are insane to pass. I personally think the 2015 model is better then the 2017 (for the 16gb version).

Pain in the ass to pair stuff to it. But new shield has the same specs as this so should be getting an updated software soon. This is a steal for a great box!

Amazing price for this. Prices have soared this last year due to it being out of stock almost everywhere. Shame it's in store only.
Great device, most powerful Android TV box you can get. Just wish more of the play store games were optimised for it but lots of cool custom things you can do with it like make it a emulator box, kodi box or just use it for streaming of video and games....

Depends what you mean by that? When you switch it on you just log into your android account and your good to go...

I've had one for a year or so now (got the two controller bundle posted on here). ES File Explorer doesn't work very well- crashes a lot- any suggestions of something better that works with a remote (ES has trouble with that).
Also doesn't like waking from sleep on occasion, so needs an unplug. It's corrupted 2 64GB microSD cards, so am thinking about getting the Pro version of the 2017 model (there are documented issues with the 500GB 2015 model).

This box has the most options for 4K content
It is the most powerful TV Box around, so very quick to use and should not go out of date for a while
The power in it means it is good for running Android game and emulators
It can also be used to stream PC games from your PC
And/or use the Nvidia GeForce now sub to stream games from Nvidia
It runs Kodi / SPMC brilliantly
It misses some of the catchup TV Apps at the mo (only iPlayer has a properly set up one), but it is still probably the most complete option out there.

The MiBox is the best of the rest IMO, but if the price gap is this small then I would go for the Shield even if just for media. At £170 though it is hard to justify over double the price of the MiBox.

Cold.... Nvidia tv 2 is out on sale now which includes a games controller and remote control for i say only £190... The first version of the console will soon drop in value, a bit like the playstation 3 fat version when it went to slim. To buy a remote and games controller your looking at another £100 also
I have just ordered my Nvidia 2 and advise anybody looking for a quality android box to match me.
Kind regards for sharing though because this version is at £280 on amazon....Madness!

Have you read any of the other comments? The difference is mostly cosmetic. Also, how can you vote cold but then go on to say the same unit is almost 3 times the price on Amazon? Have you seen this cheaper anywhere else? You can't vote cold purely because a newer version is out. Would you vote a PS3 for £20 cold because the PS4 is now out? Makes no sense.

With the new one you will get support for longer because older models will be phased out and it comes with the remote which you do not get with the older model... retails at £50... does nvidia still sell the old model, or is it outlets getting rid of stock price dropping?
Of course this is just my opinion, but its business and i predict that this time next year the old version will no longer be supported....

That makes it sound like this version doesn't come with a games controller, which obviously it does. Yes the 2017 version is slightly improved but most people would be happy with the 2015 version. I never used the remote (I use a Harmony and/or the games controller) so that may or may not be a factor for people. Plus the smaller footprint of the new version means you lose the micro-usb and micro sd card slots, which might be important for some people.
I sold my 2015 shield when the prices were high to get a 2017 (at a small profit!), but given the chance to pick this up for £90 less than the new one I'd be going for this.
dudwood_fudwood
18 Jan 17#76
That makes sense. If the hardware is essentially the same would they not provide support throughout the life of both tablets? Seems strange to cease support for the old one if it's capabilities are the same. Like you say though, business. Makes them more money.

Amazon have this model for £260 just have a feeling we could see more available soon with price slashed.... used ones on ebay for sure... Ok, lets put this to bed since there is some misinformation here:
2015 16gb version has an extra USB and SDCard slot, the 2017 16gb does not have these but is smaller.
The 2015 pro and the 2017 pro are EXACTLY the same... period.
The newer 2017 version comes with an updated controller (still poor compared to others) and a cheap, plastic remote which takes coin batterys and is nothing like their original, expensive remote.
There is absolutely no chance of the 2015 versions becoming less supported when it is exactly the same machine. It's a great deal since you could buy this and an Xbox One controller AND a Fire TV remote and have a vastly better experiance then with the 2017 model, saving yourself about £40 in the process.

Ive never had any issues with the box, I have rarely had to restart it. At the start (I got it early) there were gamestream issues (host pc would not show up) but it's been rock solid for ages for me. I stream games a lot from my PC, use Kodi and streaming services on it.
The only small thing is the middle "start, select" touch buttons on the controller are not as good as normal buttons but you get used to it.
I also use a Steam link and they work fine without issues, unless you don't quit a game stream properly on the Nvidia (e.g. If you just press home and don't save quit etc) if you resume on the steam link it sometimes loses sound but this is quite a niche thing.
There is no box I have tried anywhere near as good as it.

I had the Fire Stick on my upstairs TV and a Shield downstairs. Personally I find the Shield significantly faster, it zips through menus like a knife through butter. It's CPU is 3x faster afterall.
Sometimes the Fire Stick can be quite laggy if you have installed a custom Kodi build like the Sky Q one. I ended up having to install a lighter build on the upstairs TV.
I guess it depends on what you use it for.

I have a chrome cast and android phone which I use to stream films from movie hd and showbox and sports from mobdro without any issues. What else can this box offer ?
It appears that the unit is still the same, and the remote is the same - just the controller is different.
Have they made it exactly the same device just smaller ?
It comes with the remote, but its expensive @ 190 , mine was 120 + 40 remote , and this appears to offer no benefit apart from improved controller.
Anyone know what the update is out for the old model ?
robertr
18 Jan 171#118
Apart from adding the remote (which apparently is a cheaper build to the original?), and the redesign, (IMO) the new 16Gb Shield is actually worse than the original due to what they have left out. The firmware update is meant to be out next week for the original Shields, so no good reason to update.

From a different thread but relevant here.
It is the best android TV box without a doubt, it's fast responsive and also has HDMI CEC and acts as a Chromecast which is great for stuff like NowTV and Kodi and Plex for whatever they have on.
However this is not worth spending money on if you literally only want to watch iPlayer and use Kodi etc it's a massive overkill and any other device can do that without issue.
My choice of device would be the Fire TV box it has all UK apps and can also get Kodi and Plex fairly easily. The shield only has iPlayer NOTHING else.
TL;Dr : Only buy this if streaming from a PC or game streaming straight from Nvidia. If your just using this to watch video your wasting your money.

OK looks like we need to clear up some confusion. Game don't have any more in stock, but some of the Game stores with a PC gaming hub might have some left in. I just picked up the last one at the Trafford Centre, I think you'll be lucky to find one anywhere now.
I can confirm it comes with a gaming controller included but no remote control included.

I have used both and have not noticed any difference with kodi. So for just kodi I would go for the Amazon TV box.

RetroArch is major pain in the back to setup,I just don't have too much time to waste on various setting to just run a game.
instead I recommend Robert Broglia emulators (md.emu snes.emu neo.emu 2600.emu ace.emu) they are probably the best and most accurate emulators for retro consoles.but no arcade machine emulator.

The Shield is actually 4 x faster than the fire box... it's in black on white on their website. So no, it is not comparable.

You should try Mupen64 Alpha, N64oid, Dolphin and Ricast

I've tried them all by I don't really care for N64,Gamecube or Dreamcast emulation.

I use retroboxtv for the games

That might well be the case for playing games but not for using Kodi,Plex,Netflix etc where there zero difference in operation.

Great device, most powerful Android TV box you can get. Just wish more of the play store games were optimised for it but lots of cool custom things you can do with it like make it a emulator box, kodi box or just use it for streaming of video and games....
You can stream pc but you need a nvidia card , does support 4k play back.

I miss it already. The box is classy and admittedly the pairing of devices can be hit and miss but otherwise you'd be daft not to get one at this price.
As mentioned, the newer version is only cosmetically different and this will receive the same updates.
Hot from me, OP.

Gamestream as well is absolutely amazing
Kodi is already installed but youll need to put a build on it for shows etc
Emulators can be a pain to get how you want them to look but again its just download from the playstore
Update to latest firmware (same as new Shield) is also available as we speak!
Also doesn't like waking from sleep on occasion, so needs an unplug. It's corrupted 2 64GB microSD cards, so am thinking about getting the Pro version of the 2017 model (there are documented issues with the 500GB 2015 model).
can someone give me a quick description .
and people say it runs kodi well but alot of cheaper alternatives run kodi well.
can this play pc games? im just wondering what the unique selling point of this device is?
im not hating i just want some1 to give me a quick description
nVidia did a good job pretending they had updated the hardware when actually it's the same, Netflix 4k HDR works fine and SPMC. Amazon is coming with the update this week
I have just ordered my Nvidia 2 and advise anybody looking for a quality android box to match me.
Kind regards for sharing though because this version is at £280 on amazon....Madness!
Of course this is just my opinion, but its business and i predict that this time next year the old version will no longer be supported....
I sold my 2015 shield when the prices were high to get a 2017 (at a small profit!), but given the chance to pick this up for £90 less than the new one I'd be going for this.
Got the Fire TV box and Kodi,Plex,Netflix all work the same as on the Shield same speed no difference.
It's a great deal since you could buy this and an Xbox One controller AND a Fire TV remote and have a vastly better experiance then with the 2017 model, saving yourself about £40 in the process.
tegra P1 is already out now and packs more power.
i like the look of the new tiny smaller shield tv.
£100 would also get u them NUC's which do have more flexibility with windows onboard.
if you needed to i guess
not sure if its the old one though
Edit: just seen the link above and there's no stores showing stock within 30 miles of me (6 stores).
Sometimes the Fire Stick can be quite laggy if you have installed a custom Kodi build like the Sky Q one. I ended up having to install a lighter build on the upstairs TV.
I guess it depends on what you use it for.
I've had both.
originally had the Fire Tv box and replaced it with this nVidia Shield,it was disappointing in many ways, and overpriced.the remote controller has well known issues and buggy as hell.replaced 2.constantly de-synced,refused to detect it, battery suddenly running out, etc..so went back to Fire TV 4k and it's definitely much more robust and reliable for streaming purposes.
Shield/Fire TV/Kodi no speed difference.
I can confirm it comes with a gaming controller included but no remote control included.
They also had one in a black box in stock at £219.99, I'm guessing that's the new one? I didn't bother checking because not worth it at that price point.
Not saying it is but surely Amazon would have something to say if they were making false claims.
I have a pic with receipt but don't know how to add it here as it asks for a link?
Put my postcode in, showed in stock at the Trafford Centre
Called customer services, who in turn called the store to reserve for me
I got it from Ali baba when it went hot on here a few weeks ago
