I got it a while ago and while I haven't played it that much, every time I do play it I end up getting lost in it for a few hours without realising where the time has gone. It can be quite repetitive and there's not much in the way of actual gameplay but despite that it's provided some of my favourite organic gaming moments ever.
I once ventured into one of the expansive cave systems greedily mining gold (which I foolishly thought would be valuable). As I ventured deeper and deeper into the cave a niggling feeling told me I should probably turn back, but every time I scanned the terrain I would see another bunch of gold in the distance. Eventually, after about half an hour of this I decided enough was enough and I tried to find my way back to my ship. I followed the waypoint but every time I got near I could see the waypoint above me about 10 metres away but couldn't find a way out of the caves.
I was probably running around for at least 15 minutes trying to find a way out with no luck. I really didn't know what to do. I couldn't remember if you switched the game off and came back to it if you spawned in the same place or not. I thought I'd ruined my playthrough and would have to start over completely. But then I suddenly had a vague recollection of a mining tool upgrade I'd unlocked a while ago that said something about destroying terrain. I checked my upgrade options and luckily I had enough of the correct resources on my ship (that I could access through the cave wall) to build the plasma grenade upgrade. I then blasted my way to freedom and to be honest although it probably sounds a bit rubbish, that was a great gaming experience and there aren't many other games that could create that sort of organic gaming experience.
For those that are on the fence about this game, give it a go. You might just like it.

It does seem very strange that the PC version isn't reducing by much. Although Steam had it on offer, the price was still way above the £20 mark.

I bought it on release, played it and enjoyed it solidly for a week and then sold it for slightly more than I bought it for. Will be tempted to get back into it at some point, but not sure this is that point. Good deal but I'll hold off until it's around £15 for a digital copy.

Always been tempted by this game. Think the concept of first person getting into a space ship, hitting the atmosphere and put into space, only to land on another planet is a game of dreams. Imagine a online battlefront with this concept (say 1 world and a battle station) with 100 players in one match. This is where gaming needs to be, not this silly upscaled 4K or on the horizon joke of 8k.

I have similar feelings and also played it quite a lot when I got it.
I also had a similar idea of going off for a walk on foot and I ended up 45 minutes away from my ship with a toxic storm starting - I had to keep hiding in caves etc until the storms had passed. My idea was to find one of those portals that returns your ship to you but after walking for ages I could't find one and just had to keep going. I then got attacked by some mental bear type thing and for a while NMS felt really good.
I haven't given up on it yet, I will return soon and try the new base building bits etc.

started it twice & both times the planets had already been discovered. Really spoiled the game for me especially as no matter which new system i travelled to the same player had already been there discovering everything.
It took me 17 planets before i could Discover one for myself.. it was a High Risk High Radiation planet. I died lots looking for one of the 3 fauna that existed there

Bought for my son for Christmas at £15 used. Both of us are hooked. Obviously we now have the benefit of the big patch that has addressed some issues with the game. Playing on normal and it's just really chill. I wouldn't normally get into a game like this, but it's properly drawn us both in for reasons we can't really explain. We've sunk hours in and haven't even left our home planets yet.

I like to feel like I am accomplishing something when I play games. I want to do something and then know it has been done and dusted. With randomly generated world's I would never get that satisfaction. It's one of the main reasons I play games. I won't get that from this, that's why it never interested me. Heat added.

It is hard to believe, but about 80% of what Sean Murray said was in the game. Wasn't. just watch any interview with Sean Murray, when the interviewer asks a question regarding content, Sean replies "yes, that's in the game". He has even had death threats!
I also read some statistics, regarding the player base. 1 month after the game came out 90% of people who were logged playing the game. stopped playing it. This one is definitely going to be in the history books.
