I know this comment will not appeal to everyone, but is it really sensible to go to countries like Morocco, unless you're travelling alone, and certainly not with children ?
Lots of places which are much safer - yes I know nothing much has happened, but there's a first time for everything, and I wouldn't want my children with me if it all goes pear shaped.
The uk govt website states there's a high risk of terrorism....

Had a lovely holiday in Agadir last Summer and planning on going back this year with family. To put this in some perspective , the risk of a terrorist attack in the UK is currently under the severe risk banner. We found the people in Morocco far more accepting of Westerners than other North African Muslim countries , and we felt perfectly at ease the whole time we were there. We spent a lot of time away from the hotel visiting areas of interest. Unfortunately a large amount of countries carry high/severe risks of attacks at the moment, but you can't let it dictate your every move. Also the last attack was in Marrakech in 2011, nothing recent to my knowledge.

Agadir is fine and very liberal in terms of Islam.... its also full of holiday resorts, nice enough place and some really nice newer hotels.

Not a silly comment at all.... I have been a regular visitor with my wife and two children to agadir/taghazout over the last few years and after out last visit two years ago we decided that it would be our last, things have definitely changed for the worse out there, to a point that I just didn't feel comfortable taking my family anymore.Cant quite explain it but there was just a different atmosphere.. A sense that things/feelings were now different towards westerners. At first I put it down to maybe a bit of paranoia on my part due to the current instability regarding Muslim countries etc but my wife said she felt the same. Such a shame as we had some amazing holidays there and mixed with some great locals :-( but when it ultimately came down to it the safety of my family is far more important! Would I go on my own/with mates surfing again?.... Probably!

We had a fantastic family holiday in Morocco and as an ex soldier the security state is something I'm very aware of. Not of a fraction of the current threat in Turkey and thousands will still flock there in the summer! If you live your live by that mantra you wouldn't get far including our major UK cities, sporting events and shopping centres

Morocco is safe as there is no any trace of some governments/countries' intrusion. and definitely u know which countries i mean. :smirk:
TheForsh to kamenitzabrit

Sound advice citizen. There is a critical threat of terrorism in these countries. We should steer clear of different cultures which expand our horizons and highlight the flaws in our own systems. It's much safer to stay in the UK, especially now the government has access to internet history (nothing to hide ey). Move along now, nothing to see here.

Had this exact argument in November. Was wanting to go to Marrakech or German Market for the Dec 17-20th... Guess which exact market they wanted to visit in Germany because it was safer, they said a country like morroco was to risky. Genuinely amused, sucks there was a terror attack but couldn't have proven my point more...

However we didn't go to either due to a family issue tho.

I wouldn't go back there. Not a minutes peace from beggars and street sellers, no escaping them either, they follow you and shout at you if you try to ignore them. Never again.
tinkerbellian to Stevie Badman
7 Jan 17 1 #25
Really odd as we didn't encounter this at all. Yes there were street vendors but they were in major tourist parts as you would expect. Where we stayed in Agadir we saw them each day we walked along the prom behind our hotel , they were polite and friendly, greeting us but never being rude . As for beggars, none in this area , some in the old town, but again friendly if a little cheeky , but if you are poor you have to try your luck I guess. Again at the souk we encountered some people who I would assume may have been homeless , but only one or two, and they didn't even approach us. I've found far more intimidating behaviour from people in the streets of the U.K. To be honest. However I don't know which part of Morocco you stayed in which may have made a difference, obviously poorer areas may have issues, but we found a very welcoming country.

There are plenty of non Muslim countries to visit. Don't take a gamble with your families lives.
We had a thread on this very forum about Sousse in 2015. A few weeks later a maniac Muslim slaughtered dozens, including people who went there because of a HUKD deal. We also had the 'uk is more dangerous' brigade encouraging them to go.
I implore you: please don't risk it

I suppose Florida isn't safe right now, would u suggest we shouldn't risk it? Heard some Muslim maniac guy was shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida and killed five people? He is a terrible Muslim maniac. He was caught alive which is really good because now the autrhories can establish his terror links and clean the society of these nasty maniacs. Other than that I suppose it's very safe as it isn't really a majority Muslim country and they don't really have shoot out every other day at schools and the police are really nice with the black community they don't go round shooting the coloured people.

we stopped there on a cruise ship last October and were bussed in from the port. Honestly, it seemed like everyone just straight up asked for money off us, we quickly walked to the beach because we thought there wouldn't be any beggars at the waters edge, wrong we couldn't even get peace to walk along the beach. After that in was straight back to the shuttle bus. Wasn't just us who hated it either. A lot of people we spoke to back on-board had similar experiences. I honestly wouldn't go on this holiday if it was free.

Ok so back to the deal, £114's a blinding offer.

Yes but you were coming in off a cruise ship, notorious for being full of people desperate to buy tacky souvenirs in every port. That is not the same as going there on holiday.
grandoldchap
7 Jan 17 #31
Are u serious? U telling me he isn't a Muslim maniac? Oh he must have mental issues then, all of these non Muslim guys seems to have mental health problems. These guys are good fellas they didn't mean to kill it's just that they were a little unwell so they must have just shot people for the fun of it. Can someone please google the meaning of terrorism?
pibpob
7 Jan 17 #33
That won't help you. "Terrorism" is a meaningless political term. For instance, what the UK describes as "rebels" in Syria, Assad describes as "terrorists".

do you want me to lie? the place is rammed with beggars and smells of raw sewerage. End of.

I think the USA and UK should go to Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria for a holiday. Oh wait, they ruined those countries to create western owned central banks.
jazzuk777
8 Jan 17 #48
We went through Agadir on way from Essouira to Taroudant (coach then taxi from Agadir). Didn't get a nice impression of it, taxi drivers were fighting over us like sharks over a bit of best rare steak - still Essouira (and Taroudant) are lovely and only a short ride from Agadir, so you could use this to get to either.

I think often the more touristy the place, the less pleasant the people there, seems true in Turkey too, seem often to be better a little off the beaten path.
