I would suggest finding an approved Dyson dealer and buying a second hand (reconditioned) Dyson. I bought one 3 years ago for £60 and its the best hoover ive ever owned. I know my hoovers, have 3 dogs (2 are black) and a cream colour carpet in the livingroom.....i live on the edge lol

I have the more expensive Miele vacuum and it's served us well for 8 years. It's more powerful than this though. Buying bags for it can be a massive pain. Thankfully Miele's new range of vacuum cleaners are all bagless. As I'm a Miele fanboy I'm waiting for those to be released.

The bags are expensive, my mum bought a new one two weeks ago but a different model and it's absolutely amazing. I used it yesterday when I went to visit, helped around the house and I love it more than my Vax that's double the price of the model you've put up.

Great hoover. Light and well made. Only drawback is the microscopically small but incredibly expensive dust bag. I now get the cheap eBay alternatives which are fine.

I only use genuine bags, £9 for 4 on amazon, they seem to last ok. The bag is the main filter, I'm not saying the cheaper bags dont filter as well but if they don't the crud ends up in the motor housing.

Poor on carpets? What is it for then?

Hard flooring. On pile carpets, it struggles to pick up anything,

It looks like you might be right, it doesn't seem to come with the beater bar, I expect it's not powerful enough for one. If you have carpets you would want to look higher in the range

I've got an older miele, with a new bag on it pulls the carpet up on full blast. Fantastic support too, broke the pole thing not long ago and well outside warranty, miele sent a new one foc next day.

Having used a selection of crap vacuum cleaners including the crazy over priced dysons. I bought a miele cat and dog. Absolutely brilliant cleaner. Actually lifted our carpet.
Also have this cheaper one in my folks house and to be honest it isn't great.

Personally I would ignore all the recommendations for a 3 year old Dyson cylinder cleaner as they generally don't get the best reviews for cleaning when new, let alone 2nd hand. There isn't a single model that's a Which Best Buy.
The cheapest new Which 'Best Buy' cylinder cleaner with a score of 74% is a Hoover Enigma TE70EN21001
Whilst not a 'Best Buy' the Classic C1 scores a more than respectable 71% and the summary of the review is 'A fantastic vacuum cleaner'
I can't copy and paste full review as I'm sure I would be in breach of copyright. A brief summary would be as follows.
Great for cleaning carpets and hard floors. It excels on any kind of hair and fibre, blitzing their test. It was equally impressive on retaining dust and allergens within the machine. It wasn't good at removing larger debris, like rice, from hard floors. However they comment that removing fine dust and large debris is something that many vacuum cleaners struggle with. A great cleaner suitable for any home and a bargain to boot.
Miele vacuum cleaners account for 7 out of 19 of Which's 'Best Buy' cylinder cleaners.
Whilst I accept other review sites/institutions may do equally rigorous tests and come up with different results I generally find Which to be among the best, and being Independent have very little potential for bias in their reviews.
This seems a bargain to me so heat added.

Got one...absolutely brilliant cleaner with super suction...bags can be bought off EBay quite cheaply and do the job.
I know I shouldn't have done this but when I first moved in to our house a few years ago...the attic was filthy...cobwebs...dust...mould...damp...the Miele sailed through this horrendous task...I filled three bags in one hour...lol...changed the filters and the Miele is still going strong!

great cleaners , only use these and only use genuine bags, after aftermarket bags ruined one of my machines, genuine bags are well made and have better allergy filter. Had several machine in family and these outlast Dyson. Regarding cost of bags, you either buy an expensive Dyson and save on bags or buy Mielle a little cheaper, so you pay for the bags , but great machines and last longer.

Ok guys I need some help. Do I go for the Miele Classic C1 Junior, Classic C1 Allergy, C2 Cat and Dog or C3 Extreme?
All 4 are on offer and I don't know which one to get. I only have a couple of rooms with carpets but I do have a cat. I was thinking the C2 Cat and Dog or the C3 Extreem as it will be usefull for furutre houses with carpets but dont really see the difference between these 2. Any help appreciated

If you have any slightly thicker carpets the C2 Cat and Dog will be the way to go. It comes with the powered head with the rotating brush. I have the C3 cat and Dog and it is superb.

Or Not. I have a DC40. The only thing i use it for is picking up big bits of rubble, crumbs, etc. so that I dont fill the bag as quick. Performance wise it is no match to the miele. Mine is a C3 Cat and Dog btw.

These people saying it's a poor spec and no good on carpets are talking out their anus. Just bought one of these and needed to turn it down to half power because on full power you can barely move it off the carpet. The house is clean as a whistle now. Superb vacuum. No need to pay more.
