Thankfully these prices keep getting lower and lower, and some of us were worried about paying £60 for Switch games. £43 with Prime isn't too bad now, but hopefully they can get to under £40 soon!

Lazy Nintendo....its basically a re-release of the Wii U version with a few new characters and cars....not even any new tracks at this inflated price.
Never seen Nintendo do that before......they've always released a brand new Mario Kart game per console or handheld......times must be tough.

I'm all for remasters/ports of Wii U titles. There are some truly fun titles on the Wii U that didn't get the attention or sales they deserved due to lack of console sales. By porting them over new people can experience the game and enjoy it.
I fully expect E3 to have some announcements of titles being ported over or updated with new content for the Switch. Super Mario Maker is an obvious choice for this treatment.

So a re-release of a Wii U game on Switch that's in 1080p but still lacks any anti-aliasing, has some trivial extra content and where online play will soon be charged for. Bargain!

It does include the DLC tracks and characters from the WiiU version, so a total of 16 more tracks than the base game (which had 32). However if you bought the DLC like me, then it does seem a bit disappointing.

It was a good game for Wii U, luckily I didn't pay full price for my copy. Bought the limited edition via Nintendo store. They had a delay and gave everyone a digital copy as an apology.
Took my physical copy to Game the following day and shifted it for a few quid less than it costs to buy new.
I doubt I'd own it again for full price. Should give people who own it digital a discount for the switch copy.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if the posts were clearly just bashing Nintendo for the sake of it - but most of them make very valid arguments. 18 Jan 17#47
Agreed. I am already on record as not being keen on the MK8 Deluxe. Is far from ideal, and disappointing. MK8 sucked multiplayer and the introduction of other genre characters from other non Mario games seems to cause divided opinion. I suppose it is not so bad for what is really just a MK8.5, or probably not even that, more like a MK8.25, as long as they don't continue with that nonsense for MK9 all should be good and back on track.

I am a basher of Nintendo. You just haven't cared to notice it  The Classic NES has many crap games. To include 1 controller that has a tiny lead is poor. The Splatoon forced gamepad use and controls were nonsense. The Wii U platform games played badly 2 player. MK8 is dreadful multiplayer and other issues. The Amiibos although look great, were not utilised properly and games not developed properly to make good use of them. The Eshop needs a massive overhaul.
Just a sample of things I have repeatedly stated on here many times. There is much, much more. Nintendo is not perfect. What is? But lets not just bash it for the sake of bashing it because someone is a XB/PS-playing-Nintendo-hating-fanboy and can't accept there is an alternative non-mainstream console out there catering for a different consumer market.

I love my Wii U but won't be buying a Switch on release. I'm disappointed with the launch line up and will stick with my Wii U and continue playing MK8 and Splatoon for free, I'll also buy the marginally inferior version of Zelda note for £20 less than the Switch version as I don't play games on the go anyway.

You were doing moderately well, moderately well for the most obsessed console fan boy I've ever come across that is, till you wrecked it by bringing up your favourite old chestnut of 'Nintendo ain't mainstream' yet again.
The fact that you consider moaning about a tiny lead on the Classic's controller to be bashing Nintendo and that you call anyone who don't share your disturbing and inexplicable outlandish love for Nintendo an "XB/PS-playing-Nintendo-hating-fanboy" says it all really.

There was the issue of Wii U MK8 being really crap multiplayer. There was no traditional battle mode maps. Just a frustrating driving round whole tracks hoping to see another person now and again. Okay so they have sorted out the 2 item thing, by fixing that glaring mistake. I don't believe there has no been any indication of battle mode maps being provided? So can't seem most wanting to play this online, unless your satisfied with playing GP races all the time. I am still playing MK7 online, as it is more fun with its battle mode maps and just more playable. I expect that will continue.

Good deal! Glad to see this dropping in price. For those that didn't play on the Wii U, this is pretty good, since it has enough updates, plus all the extra DLC to make it worthwhile.
I have the game on Wii U with all the DLC and love it, but haven't touched it for a while since the online component is pretty weak. I am still getting this for Switch because of the tweaks, multiplayer, online and fixed battle mode. One of the attractive things about MK7 on 3DS is the portability aspect, which appeals to me with this Switch version.
Having it on the go, and ready with a second pad to play via the Joy-Con wherever I am with people is an interesting proposition.

Maybe I'm just old and cynical, when I was a kid, everything seemed so new, groundbreaking and exciting.
I remember having to wire up the plug to my megadrive, carving out the edges of the cartridge slot with a Stanley so it'd take NTSC games.
We have most consoles besides Sony stuff (which I may get my lad next Xmas) and I just can't understand brand loyalty, go where the the good games are and in truth, they are spread across all platforms.
But this.
It's a port.
I have KOTOR n Jade Empire on my phone, they're ports of games from a bygone generation of consoles.
This is basically Nintendo doing an EA and (tri/bi)annually releasing the same basic formula (worse, it's the same game!).
And to the guy that said 'lot of deep burning hatred for Nintendo', you either have really deep pockets or a puddle for a memory.
I'd conjecture most people that hate Nintendo have owned or own most consoles they've released.
This is the same game + dlc, which I paid £14 for and needs a sub to play online
Let me type the details into my little computer and see if I wanna pay again and more for the same experience...

Never had any issue with MK8 online games myself, worked perfectly and still does, but the addition of one mode certainly in my view is not a justified reason to charge to access online play, i could understand if Nintendo had just announced this amazing online service for the switch to rival that of XBlive of even PSN, but the service sounds nonexistent when you see it will requires a phone and a app to chat and talk to people, how that requires a online fee to play your games online on the switch i have no idea, at least on the U you could send messages via mii-verse, something they have announced won't be on the switch, i mean who is advising Nintendo on this stuff. lol

Thank goodness you are here to add all this considered, measured and quite balanced opinion of yours. I don't think your a mainstream console fanboy/girl hater of Nintendo at all. Nothing to suggest that in your various posts over last day or two would make anyone think that.
It is both. Some games had the choice of hand held gamepad screen controller, or your own controllers. Some forced one or the other. Some forced you to use with a TV and had no gamepad screen option (like Papermario Colour Splash Wii U).
The Wii U gamepad screen controller also had to be within relatively close range of the Wii U console also to be able to run.

Potentially yes. The Nintendo online service (at least the communications side) will be done through a smartphone app. This makes sense since the device is designed to be portable. More details on the service will be announced closer to launch though, it has even been hinted that digital purchases will finally be tied to your Nintendo account.

They're not the best provider, that's purely your subjective opinion.
This is a cover job because of a poor lineup; it's par for the course with Nintendo.
Hoping for more from third parties but I'm not holding my wild breathe.
Dude, I don't understand why you so vociferously defend this company, likewise others defending Sony or MS, I don't owe any of these companies a thing, except maybe gratitude for some of the experiences... that I've PAID for.
This is a bad deal, it's a game already available from their previous console, they're reselling you old rope and you're happy about that.
Ultimately, that's a problem, it's why EA churn out the same games (with minor adjustments) year on year.

Wow what a lot of hot air. Personally have owned lots in my gaming life. C64, Amstrad, mega drive, SNES, N64, DS, 3DS, WII. The usual Sony and Xbox incarnations. A proper gaming PC which emulates Mario Kart 8.
firstly, the console and game isn't even released yet.
the game yes may be awesome but its a goty port which will cost extra for playing online.
Nintendo have been genius over the years. this is very tacky and if this price is correct when its released is Nintendo lowering their class quite a bit.
Now can we stop these seeing who has the bigger trousers competitions and just wait for the actual release.

It's not a great deal for people who owned the Wii U version, although given the cost of DLC it works out cheaper than buying everything on the Wii U. Clearly the audience for this are people who didn't own a Wii U (quite a few, shocking I know), rather than those who want to play MK8 on the go, possibly with friends.
Either way, this is a bargain compared to some other retailers. For those who are interested in this game, it's a good deal.

No different to other games makers for re-re-re-releasing games for modern consoles. The only switch game I thought was a joke was Skyrim. I am a little surprised at the pricing model though as Nintendo are the hardware and software suppliers it would have made sense for them to have used this as a loss leader pending an all new version. But it is hardly a deal breaker - If you are an early adopter then the Zelda game will probably have swung it for you
mjpower4
19 Jan 17#94
I think historically Nintendo do make the best games for their consoles but for two main reasons:
1. They know the hardware and how to drag out all the performance and the game mechanics are usually sweet.
2. Third party providers have in the past dropped away

MK9 3DS is surely the most likely next "proper new" MK game. I know the 3DS has been out for yonks, but it still thrives and look like it has years ahead yet. The 3DS also recently got it's 2nd Mario Party title, so no reason for it not to get a 2nd Mario Kart game.

Erm, he didn't even say anything derogatory about the Switch - you need to relax. Oh and this IS lazy from Nintendo, make no mistake about that.

The Switch launch titles are poor. I did not expect to buy Mario kart 8 again. However, Mario kart 8 looks to be the 2nd best game you can get on switch. So preorder anyhow. But overall disappointed with Nintendo. I traditionally buy day one console with 3 top launch games but for Nintendo, I have to buy Mario kart and 1-2 switch to accompany Zelda is rather unexciting.

So what you're actually saying is people that are buying the Switch on day one have every right to feel short changed with only having a choice of two Wii U games as launch titles for the system.
Funnily enough I totally agree.

Zelda alone is probably enough to convince people buying into Switch to be honest, it dwarfs any of PS4/Xbox One launch exclusives in my opinion.. and not to mention you can actually play it on the go!!
Mario Kart, Splatoon, Skyrim, Disgaea, NBA 2K, and Fire Emblem Warrior within 6 month of launch are all just icing on the cake! I don't understand why people are not excited about playing them on a **handheld**..

Ok.. if we're talking perspective.. I haven't bought anything Nintendo since the wii so I'm no fundamentalist fanboy rallying anywhere to defend them! My point was.. where is the sense dogging a new console before it even comes out for not having enough games when that has been the case for ALL new consoles in recent memory? And if what you say is true about your PS4/XBone purchases then what's the point in dogging a console that you won't be buying until 2018? :/

Second fact is plenty of people, especially Wii U owners of which you've just admitted you're not one, don't see much value if any in jumping on board day one.

Stop with the stupid fanboyism. No-one said you're not allowed to like the switch. The only brain-dead type of moron is the one who's ego is too freaking high that they look down on others for having a different opinion. This may sound like a novel concept, but you're allowed to like a product and accept criticism. You claim people don't know what the switch is all about, but frankly you just don't understand anyone else's point of view but your own. It IS less powerful than a ps4/xbo. It also is more expensive than either of them. Most people aren't expecting the console to be super amazing at everything. What they were expecting is it to be more competitive in some way.
For the cost, it could have given us better performance so that people would end up with a better device, say a new product that is actually better than what we've had for many years. Alternatively that could have provided cost benefits for buyers so that the product would be more competitive price wise. That wouldn't take anything away from what the product actually is. Instead you want to pretend that it's a perfect product, when nothing ever is.
Personally I've been wanting the switch too, but have been put off on the price too. I have a decent gaming rig, but online gaming is a massive epeen contest of obnoxious attitudes. Frankly you're making it look like nintendo wouldn't be any different, and make me ashamed to be a gamer. Would it be such a terrible things for some people's concerns being addressed so that more people can share the passion? By putting Nintendo on a pedestal you're setting it up for Wii U 2.0 and allowing them by only succeeding by living on their former successes above what they're relevance to the present. If the switch suits you, then fantastic. Just don't think that others should just blindly buy into it and that they're wrong for actually having reservations. People have the right to a different opinion, and it's sad that as time goes on, it seems to become more and more about attacking others that don't share the same point of view.
Anyway personally I'm gonna wait and hope for the best that they'll be more competitive in some way, but fear they won't. Waiting doesn't hurt though, the amount of titles coming out seems quite limited to start out with. I think they should've worked on their library a bit more before releasing the console imo. The price here seems decent for if you're all set on the switch now. Personally I hope things come down more though, especially since this game doesn't really provide much that's new. Otherwise gaming could be becoming an expensive hobby.

At least it's 1080p and 60fps (unlike Zelda at 900p and 30fps) but no new tracks??!??
I can't justify 3 online subs ATM and tend to just use the Xbox one for multiplayer and PS4 for games like uncharted, tomb raider etc but wondering if Switch online sub is going to be worth it with the small amount of initial games.
I hope Switch proves all the critics wrong and does well but I'm going to wait until it drops a little then take another look.

So for me to play mk8 on the go it will cost £280 + ~£30 online annually + £43 = £353. Hmmm. Plus 4g costs. Another £43 for the wii u smash bros prob around xmas. £50 for Fifa. Couldn't really care less about the rest of the games, like zelda. But it does add up real quick. Should have been £280 with mk8.

I played games a bit in the local arcade we dossed in when we was young but never got in to home gaming till my late teens. I bought a Mega Drive and a SNES on the same day when a local scally had a result when he done a van on a delivery at Our Price Records  apart from the Wii and original Xbox I reckon I've had nigh on every console that's come out since then, including the 3DO(Panasonic model of course) and even pointless tosh like the Mega CD add on.
Totally agree with you that the wow factor I got then I just don't seem to get now but it's most likely an age thing because I feel like that about literally everything nowadays, not just gaming.
For me after all those years if I had to pick five real stand out titles that rocked my world so much and define why I'm still playing video games after more than a quarter of a century I'd say they were EA Hockey, Desert Strike, Mario 64, Golden Eye and the original GTA  Gouranga
By my reckoning that's two out of five which was Ninty exclusives, so as much as Mario and Peach's secret love child NoahsArk would like to claim I'm a hater with a 'mainstream console' agenda he really couldn't be further from the truth.
Just like I've been worn down by the relentless march of the DLC stripe up in modern gaming that I barely even pipe up about any more I'm also at that point with this remix pxxs take or remastered pony call it whatever.
I can't even be bothered to 'bash' Nintendo about doing it with MK8 on the grounds that everyone else is doing it. Therein though lies the crux of the matter, seeing they're quick enough to adopt the ways of current/next gen 'mainstream consoles' there why are they still not willing to manufacture a straight forward next gen console with next gen spec minus stupid gimmicks?
I just don't get their obsession with gimmicks, ok they struck gold with the original Wii but the millions and millions of casuals that enjoyed an hour or two of Wii bowling on Christmas Day 2007 had already moved on by January 1st 2008. My god I remember that dinlow Jon Gaunt talking about how his family loved playing Wii nonsense on his Talksport show back then, enough said :smirk: those casuals a decade on believe the Wii U is just a revamped Wii, if they've even heard of it at that is.
So real gamers who'd already been alienated by the Wii were alienated again by the Wii U with that tablet thing. I got a Wii U myself and I can get on with it but it was a real turn off for so many people, especially those with young kids because of the implications of the thing getting broke.
So I'm sorry they were even shafting/scaring off the family punters they forever claim is their target market with the U and now we got another mega expensive gimmick and again no grunt in the actual system.
Gamers from both ends of the spectrum and everyone in between have good reason to be sceptical once more.

I'm a real gamer, I have a gaming PC and with that I can play (barring a few limited exclusives) practically every high end game available at super high res and max settings. Playing Battlefield 1 at true 4k looks incredible.
But if I want to spend time with the family then the Wii U nails it. So many fun games, most of which are not available on the PC or any other platform. I am sure this trend will continue with the Switch.
Playing through the epic Bayonetta 2 with my daughter at the moment and loving it (trying to get through the games we missed before we switch to a Switch)
Gonna miss it for sure, so many good memories... Deffo don't feel alienated. Roll on March the 3rd!

Nintendo fans in a nutshell.
You are the Bill Murray to Nintendo's Steve Martin in Little Shop of Horrors.
I don't know about that... his far right attitude sort of needs to exist to try and balance out all the Nintendo fans who try and shield Nintendo from any criticism and condone their terrible choices by pre-ordering and throwing money at them. I strongly believe fans like that are helping Nintendo to fail, not thrive as they seem to think; killing them with kindness.

We are still playing MK7 (3DS) in our house as it remains a better multiplayer game than what MK8 (Wii U) is. I think something has gone wrong with MK recently, excuse the pun but it should be able to get back on track. It sounds like there is proper battle mode maps back again? And the 2 item feature is back, which everyone seems to prefer (at least we were listened to on that). Hopefully by the time MK9 comes the silly mashing with other games like Animal Crossing, Zelda, Splatoon, Excite Bike will have ceased too.

Never seen Nintendo do that before......they've always released a brand new Mario Kart game per console or handheld......times must be tough.
anyways voted hot, good deal
I fully expect E3 to have some announcements of titles being ported over or updated with new content for the Switch. Super Mario Maker is an obvious choice for this treatment.

I am sure a new release is planned but the ability to play MK8 handheld means I am in on day 1.
Took my physical copy to Game the following day and shifted it for a few quid less than it costs to buy new.
I doubt I'd own it again for full price. Should give people who own it digital a discount for the switch copy.

What is with all the cliché put downs of the Switch and Nintendo on every Switch thread today? Are you not content with your mainstream console gaming or something? It is a Switch thread in case you hadn't noticed.... we are not loitering around the Mainstream console deal threads bashing away at them. Show some respect!

:stuck_out_tongue:
And droning on about them having a bias towards 'mainstream consoles' like Nintendo are some tiny indie company who nobody has ever heard of :smirk: you got proper proper issues I'm telling ya.
I'm sure you'll get a spot at Satoru Iwata's dinner table in the Mushroom Kingdom up in the sky when your time comes :smirk:
Tell me something as it's getting on and it'll be time to hit the pit soon....when will you be slipping in to your Yoshi PJ's before hopping in to your Mario Kart shaped bed and tucking yourself up in your Zelda duvet?
Serious question as I'd like to say nighty night and wish you sweet dreams before you do :smirk:
Just a sample of things I have repeatedly stated on here many times. There is much, much more. Nintendo is not perfect. What is? But lets not just bash it for the sake of bashing it because someone is a XB/PS-playing-Nintendo-hating-fanboy and can't accept there is an alternative non-mainstream console out there catering for a different consumer market.
Good luck to those of you getting a Switch though.
The fact that you consider moaning about a tiny lead on the Classic's controller to be bashing Nintendo and that you call anyone who don't share your disturbing and inexplicable outlandish love for Nintendo an "XB/PS-playing-Nintendo-hating-fanboy" says it all really.
My life I think I probably love my dog a bit more than I should, the missus definitely echoes that sentiment, but it pales in to insignificance when compared to how intensely you adore Nintendo, you truly are stark raving bonkers!
And there's just one guy at the back pointing out it's the exact same thing.
Nintendo ports.
And before anybody pipes up with Sony and Microsoft do it; we know, we moan about them too.
In fact, if you're a gamer in your 30's and you don't hate gaming, then you are very fortunate indeed.
Thank you most kindly
Probably owned a Megadrive as a kid and gutted Sega never made it this far
Great price! Cannot wait, really looking forward to battle mode!
Probably fancied Princess Peach as a kid and gutted that mummy never loved ROB the robot as much as they did.
Poor value price! Can wait, really looking forward to fanboys doing more cheerleading!

"noahsdad is now following you!"

It is both. Some games had the choice of hand held gamepad screen controller, or your own controllers. Some forced one or the other. Some forced you to use with a TV and had no gamepad screen option (like Papermario Colour Splash Wii U).
The Wii U gamepad screen controller also had to be within relatively close range of the Wii U console also to be able to run.
if you are limited to a local console like the wii u was, cant see the appeal
Oh dear! More rubbish from you. You really do need to learn to read properly before posting such nonsense.

Ultimately, that's a problem, it's why EA churn out the same games (with minor adjustments) year on year.
firstly, the console and game isn't even released yet.
the game yes may be awesome but its a goty port which will cost extra for playing online.
Nintendo have been genius over the years. this is very tacky and if this price is correct when its released is Nintendo lowering their class quite a bit.
Now can we stop these seeing who has the bigger trousers competitions and just wait for the actual release.
Either way, this is a bargain compared to some other retailers. For those who are interested in this game, it's a good deal.
1. They know the hardware and how to drag out all the performance and the game mechanics are usually sweet.
2. Third party providers have in the past dropped away
Yes, but that's totally understandable... Peach was incredibly hot!
But still, certain people obsessively spouting the same old stuff everytime a deal for the Switch is posted.
Yes, we know you don't like it, we get it...Now runalong and go and play uncharted or whatever.
It's so funny, I was a staunch supporter of the Wii U, yet, get labeled 'anti-Nintendo' when I don't agree that the Switch is worth its asking price (and fees).
I've seen the Nintendo fanbase in a new light recently... they really do have some of the most blind loyalty to a corporation I have ever seen. Completely without a backbone.

I hope Switch proves all the critics wrong and does well but I'm going to wait until it drops a little then take another look.
If Yooka Laylee was exclusive to Switch then I'd be tempted!
My plan is play on my PS4 while I'm at home and have the luxury to use the main TV  or take Switch with me while on the go..

I agree. I've owned Mario Kart 8 for years so it's hard to get excited about this.
As a Wii u owner, it's also a bit annoying that they delayed The new Zelda so long just so that it could be a launch title for the Switch.
