What is the barcode? As my store has it full price
I'd have thought the Makita TD0101 would be a good place to start perhaps.

I agree with all this. Cordless seems a bad choice for very occasional use. More expensive. Battery needs charging before use. The battery dies long before the tool is worn out.

I've tried them and like bouncy99 said they are the "Rubbish ones"
They are bottom of the range Makitas but are more than capable of doing the jobs around the house. Would even be a good present for a novice DIYer who doesn't want to spend £280 on an impact driver alone.
I've been looking for a set but ended up buying the LXT range of drills. Mine will be used daily out on jobs. These would suit a DIYer
For the Price I think this is a good deal. Have some heat

To be honest a wired drill might be better for such occasional use, Nicads don't like sitting out of use and often die after 3 or 4 years of that sort of use, lithium Li-Ons might be better but even they can die if left out of use for long periods of time. Personally I'd never buy anything with Nicad anymore, unless you're working in sub zero conditions where they are better than Li-ion they're the least reliable for most users

I couldn't agree with you more, I've got a lawn mower, hedge trimmer, vacuum, drill, impact driver and a saw. I have two batteries and a twin charger and It's great that you can use them on any of the tools, plus they are fully charged in less than an hour. I'd really like the lawn edge trimmer next but haven't seen a decent deal lately. Keep plugging away with the wife.
That said this seems like a decent deal to me.

Some HUKD faithful have rubbished the non LXT range.
Had 2 Makita non LXT 18V combi drills for more than 3 years.
Heavily used from assembling kitchens to drilling into concrete.
Highly recommend them.
The only negative side to them I can think of is the battery capacity as Makita don't make batteries for non LXT range that are higher than 1,3 Ah.
Good luck

I think that's the biggest drawback really, small(ish) battery capacity. For occasionally DIY it's probably no big deal and at this price it's hard to grumble (but don't let that stop people) - the real benefit of the LXT range is once you have 1 battery and charger you can buy dozens of tools and use the same battery and the tools are quite cheap when sold without a battery.
I've got the 458 drill, impact driver and planer, all LXT and aim to buy more depite my wife's rolling eyes everytime I talk about tools.

My makita nicad set came from b&q years ago, great drills generally and lower price for general DIY. I went for proper makita this time round, but imagine these would be find for general DIY.

not LXT compatible means they are the rubbish ones, trading on the name makita.
