Thanks. I had an idea to put them in glass cabinets similar to these - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/cabinets-sideboards/detolf-glass-door-cabinet-black-brown-art-10119206/ - but I don't think they will be as bright as halogen.

I have a Maplin version of these under my kitchen cupboards, fine for making a cup of tea. But wouldn’t trust them when chopping vegetables.

I have a set behind my TV and would say that the description given bt Lidl of giving off an "ambient glow" is quite right. Mine look bright in place, but they are only 10cm from the wall and I doubt they would be bright enough for anything other than mood lighting.
