It is indeed criminal that LG are allowed to do this. HDR is a joke on almost any TV under £1K anyway, particularly those that are below 500 nits brightness and with 8-bit panels (ROFL), but to not even be capable of displaying 4K properly is genuinely absurd. LG truly hold the crown when it comes to taking the p*ss. It is the antithesis of false advertising, by any and all definitions of the term.
RGBW panel, will never buy an LG tv as they don't feel the "need" to tell you about the inferior panel you may be getting.
And yet the stock of their "4K" TV's is being snapped up by people thinking they are getting a 4K tv.

It might not be 4K but £799 + 5yr guarantee for a 60" tv that I'm sure is quite enjoyable to watch 1080p content on ain't bad, and the Web interface for LG in my opinion is the most user friendly
I challenge you to find a TV the same price, true 4K, HDR and 10bit at this size. Oh and a half decent warranty too.

I feel ignorance is bliss with TVs, this in your front room alongside your favourite show would look awesome
Anyway your buying 4k and it's only 3840p, so technically that's you being sold an inferior panel to what's advertised.

My fave show atm is The Grand Tour, which is 4K HDR, although i am not seeing "real" HDR on my 8-bit panel either.
Even with the HDR firmware update my TV received.
But these LG RGBW panels are only able to show the full range of colours in 2880 of the 3840 pixels, so its a 3K tv in my eyes. And in the eyes of many others. Can't believe LG are able to advertise it as 4K. The other 1000 pixels are limited in the colour they can reproduce.
HDR on these RGBW panels?? They can't even show you a normal 4K image. :smile:

A firmware update can't update the hardware in your TV, it's impossible to make an 8 bit panel HDR compatible, you need a 10 bit panel to display HDR.

I vouch for this TV as I have owned the 850V 49" for 2 years now and the quality is fantastic, the smart User Interface is really intuitive. However, my next TV has to be OLED 4K without a doubt

I don't think it's a big deal at this point in time. As long as people are aware of the facts. I would challenge someone to be able to tell/resolve the difference between a real 4K panel and 'LG's fake 3K' panel, even if they were side by side and while HDR isn't fully supported, next year there will be another big thing we must have.
I guess for £799, to get a branded, 60" TV with a decent interface even if it is faux 4K is still a bargain. And there are people will choose an LG over a Hisense by the brand, even if the Hisense is technically better.
