I have been looking at ultrabook for the last couple of weeks. I missed the 710 at JL (out of stocks) for £599.
I wonder if there is a better alternative than this yoga 900?

I did consider the XPS at £999 (after their save100 offer) but it is still 150 quid more expensive.

Any suggestions please? I need it for work so I will mainly use MS Office and open large pdf files (maps).

I'm in the same boat, looks like manufacturers are releasing a lot of new models over the next couple of months, so maybe expect more sales on discontinued models.

if you are opening large pdf files, which are maped based you may wish to look at a laptop which has more ram (8gb may not be enough) and one that has descreate graphics either from nvidia or amd

If you know anyone that works for HP they currently have a staff only offer for a Spectre G1 (13", i7, 8gb, 512gb) half price at £720 instead of £1440

I have this laptop and am very happy with it. My only complaint is it took a while to get used to the keyboard, the layout is a little weird. I paid £1099 a few months ago.

Ok so it's this or an HPx360 or an HP Spectre. My heads melted! My current laptop has died and I can't get it to charge either and all my pictures and documents are on it- does anyone technically minded know if my data can be recovered to put on my new laptop or is it gone forever? :disappointed: I appreciate any help, thanks.

Generally speaking the easiest way of recovering data from a laptop that's died (assuming it's not the hard drive that's failed), is to pull out the hard drive / ssd and plug it into a SATA to USB converter, you'll then be able to access the disk, providing you've not got the drive encrypted you'll be able to read the data off the drive.

Data should still be there. Does it turn on with the power cable in? What exactly happened between when it was working and when it stopped? You could put it in a caddy and then connect it to another computer using a usb and simply try to drag and drop the files over. If the hard drive is encrypted it might be a bit tricker. If the hard drive has gone, then you're buggered. Worth getting a techie teenager or family member to look at it for you before giving up all hope!

I quite like this laptop. I think i'll get it if it drops to £800 or below. Considering the asus U305 M cpu series is going for £650ish, this is a steal. Would have liked 16gb ram and 512ssd though. Wish they had this option for sale. Really don't fancy the faff upgrading the ram and ssd down the line (one of the reasons holding me back from committing to buying this). If you do plan on putting in a 512gb drive, it'll cost £150+ for a 512gb one so keep this in mind.

Depending on what laptop it is you should be alright. Some have taken to removing the ability for users to access the hard drives. But anything from a couple of years ago should be fine. So crack it open, remove the hard drive and get a caddy or IDE/SATA to USB. Provided the drive is sound it should whirr up and you can access and you can transfer your documents onto your new computer.

Perhaps that's why they are selling off cheap to employees
