A friend had her house broken into for her car keys recently.
She mentioned to the officer that she wouldn't leave the keys on display any longer. The officer replied that they recommend you leave them in an easy place close to the door once you're in the house but not on view from the door or windows.
The theory being, if you have a luxury car thieves will break in & if they can't find the keys proceed through the rest of the house. If they're close to the door & easy to find their more likely to grab them & leave.
How true it is I don't know, but it makes sense.
Anyway, this is a good price & is a decent size too. Have some heat.

Look out for fridge magnets in sales and use your....er......fridge....
Some companies give fridge magnets away as freebies.

Advised the same years ago from a off duty officer at my house when I had a top of the range car playing the rat race, as we entered I hid in the keys usual place in a lower drawer under the door of electricity cupboard in the hall in front of him as well he was a police man... I explained I always hid them and he said put them on top on the surround ledge of the door as you cant see them from the window or letterbox and if they come for the car in mind they will smash your belongs up trying to find them.
He said my house was like fort knox and good on me for being so top notch, Yale locks on every door - the type you lock the handle with deadlocks below, and unlike most people (THIS IS A LEARNING PROCESS FOR EVERY HUKD'er) - my window key was on my main keys like everyone who had keys for the house NEVER leave window keys in windows or lying about - if they got in (weak spot was bathroom window above a outside Stone built store) they were faced with a vestibule with another Yale lock and glass door that if they broke the alarm was off and alerting ADT/me.
So be warned, leave no window, car or spare keys on show where they can be seen anywhere - unless your car is rare/premium these professional car thieves will destroy your home searching for them (and find other valuables esp with sentimental value in doing so), leave them on display ONLY where they can be seen inside the property at what side/door entry area of the property the car is parked.

Rubbish advice. The burglar would go through your stuff , put in a suitcase or blanket and then the back of your car you have handed on plate by leaving the keys there for their get away.
I put 5 lever locks on the internal doors. The copper said if I had left the internal doors open then they would not be damaged.
I said I would rather have most of my stuff and just claim on the insurance for doors.
The burglar broke the back door and kicked in two internal doors before the alarm scared him off. He got some stuff but not as much as if all the doors were open.
A good piece of advice is don't leave your key in the lock on the inside, as any burglar can open your door from the outside if you. do.

You can have as many good locks as you like but if you have a desirable car they want then they will get in.
I know someone who had his special edition Merc stolen because the burglars cut through the mastic and lifted out double glazed windows to get in for the cars keys.

Well I had a security gate, investing large money in a car to not have anything to stop it being driven off your driveway is lunacy, sounds like 'someone' didn't even have a house alarm as a change in that much air pressure should affect the PIR and alarm goes off - my neighbours have never been in my house, but I am on good terms with them all (they all bitch about each other but I don't partake, which being the youngest makes me laugh - lead by example oldies!) & if my alarm went off they would outside and one of them would be at the door checking, 2 of them would be calling my mobile they have for emergencies.

I forgot to add in my anecdote, my friend was asleep in the house at night when this happened so only found out in the morning. They took his car keys from his bedroom! He has a house alarm which wasn't switched on but now uses the zonal system for downstairs when asleep. Frightening to think what would have happened if he had been woken up.

So I agree with other comments: leave your car keys out of view from windows but in an obvious place downstairs so a thief can grab it in case you're asleep!

Jeez, they could have screwed his ass in more ways than one...that's scary a stranger sneaking in your bedroom whilst sleeping (unless you preplanned it lol)...and I'm not someone easily intimidated, but I would be waking up to some stranger in my bedroom in the middle of the night.
I always say this to people, zone the alarm system if you can. I used to zone off my bedroom (en suite) at night and every room including the hall was alarmed, which is great fun if you get up half asleep and leave the bedroom, beep beep beep (runs!).
I have a apartment these days and only way in is the main door, I have a alarm that goes on when I'm out even to the shop 2 minutes away. Proactive.
