poor write speed but at this price you can't argue
RobJames to andrewlaw9
16 Jan 17#36
That depends on which other write speed it is compared with.
I have exactly this crucial SSD in two laptops and in one PC, and the write speed of this SSD is brilliant compared to the old hard disks that they replaced.
In other words, these cheap SSDs might not beat other higher priced SSDs, but they do beat mechanical drives hands down, easily.
They are ideal if you only need a small drive (say, just for operating system plus web brower plus office applications and other stuff that does not demand a lot of space), as a replacement of the old hard drive. It gives a huge speed improvement in these configurations.
On that particular PC, I have three other hard disks with TBs for space and no need for SSD for these large drives.

16 Jan 17#32
Well it implies that you need to click on your choice of size...e.g 240gb from the clickable size options , then pick your supplier. £34.99 + 2.99 shipping.
Just Wondering
16 Jan 171#31
Maybe , but generous does not come into the option....I picked 34.99 + 2.99 no self respecting HotUKDealer would not do the same !

I notice that for the 240GB and 480GB it says that the price is 'from', whatever that implies.

I picked 240 and the prices following are for the 240gb , My order shows 240gb ordered , I bought one earlier.
Even if it turns up as a 120gb , any marketplace seller even if a foreign company has to offer either :
A free return address to the sellers country or a free UK delivery address.
Also if you look at the 2 sellers , each has a different amount of feedback one will be the direct from Hong kong , one will be shipped from the UK account.
So no worries...

No doubt you'll notice a huge performance increase with the SSD, I assume given the age of your notebook the drive will not be operating as its full specification. These drives are require SATA 6GB port to get the maximum speed specified speed, at around 2009 sata 3GB was prevalent and most likely your drive will be bottlenecked by the controller. Something to think about. Ultimately, your getting the benefit you want, so that's the main thing, also realise to get the potential of the drive Sata 6GB is required.

Stuck one of these in an old laptop from March 2009, Ex Windows Vista (Core2 Duo P8400 2.27GHz, 4GB RAM) for the hell of it, to see how it would perform.
With Windows 10 installed and this SSD, it boots from power on to browsing the web in 30 seconds.
Word 2016 loads in about 3 seconds.
This beats any cheap new laptop for day to day use. (NO COMMENTS NEEDED ABOUT GRAPHICS, ETC)
