That's definitely a better laptop. Twice the RAM, £50 cheaper, same graphics performance, Full HD screen 30% slower CPU. Still A10 wins hands down.

Not a good alternative then?

I would have done had I known it's such valuable information sorry for all

Is there much to think about? Just because the 7200u is new doesn't mean it's anything special, dual core low clock speed. The AMD one has double the RAM, full HD screen and is £50 less.

Terrible plastic construction like all HP laptops. Went to have a look at this plus some i7 HP laptops at Currys the other day and decided to opt for a more solid looking Dell.

Just look at what you said about the clock speed and also RAM is not as relevant if you consider the processor is a good 2 fold better than the AMD

That's why I said it was an alternative, not better outright. Everyday stuff like watching Netflix would benefit from the 1080p screen and some people might not get the most out of the processor if you consider the people buying at this price.

I see where you're coming from, but try not to disregard it solely because of average screen resolution

I really miss the Vaio brand as it had nice screens, there does not seem to be as many manufacturers and products coming out and the processors are not that much better than a couple of years ago. For the price this HP seems overpriced for plastic construction that can break easily and a poor screen.
Forget the resolution, the screen itself is poor quality. The construction could do with a little padding especially behind the screen for a better build - also a better quality fan that is quieter. HP need to do an apple, and dissect its competitors namely Dell.

I loved my vaio until the NVIDIA graphics chip failed and Sony refused to accept that my model was affected, even though NVIDIA admitted the chip was faulty and paid out millions. It still hurts now, man :disappointed:

I like it, seems decent spec for price to me and since I hit my thirties my eyes are low definition anyway so I won't notice the missing pixels. Heat added

You do realise for majority usage 8GB suffices since you only ever use upto 4Gb RAM at any given time unless you are gaming to which the A10 laptop would labour due to the processor anyway. As for graphics there are not the same integrated 620 are really good specially with a decent RAM backing not quite like dedicated a GPU though but hey you take what you can at times. Whereas AMDs tend to fail a lot I can atest to that myself I had a laptop that failed due to the GPU and it was an AMD

It all depends on what you are going to use it for...both of the laptops mentioned are great value (both the HP and the Lenovo are great value). Its a trade off between processing power and screen resolution:
Then you say that A10 would "labour" for gaming (btw I think your GP appointment is overdue). That is not true. Light gaming on these laptops will be limited by the GPU not the CPU. GPUs here are about the same, AMD cpu is 30% slower. That would have no effect on gaming, they are to perform the same.
Then you're mumbling something about AMD GPU failing, just confirms the diagnosis of brain damage. A10 is an APU with CPU nad GPU integrated in one chip. I never heard about one of those failing. I don't think they do, in any case there's warranty. Other components are far more likely to fail than the APU.
Nothing special really. It's your average laptop so don't see what a great deal this might be.
Slow HDD, low res screen. Will entice to buy those who are not tech-savvy, who see 8GB and 1TB HDD and think it's better than what it is really.
Also this doesn't have a premium build and from my personal experience with a HP laptop made of plastic... they won't last long, even with no mistreating.
Have a Dell 2-1 made of plastic (that I am gonna sell now that I have a Mac) and it doesn't creak like the HP did. Very thick plastic and it feels sturdy.
I'd rather get a 6th gen laptop that has SSD and 1080p screen at least.
You won't notice any visible difference between a 6th gen processor and a 7th gen one.

I have a hp 640 g1 that I accidentally spilt a glass of Port over. Managed to recover it but wouldn't work when I tried to install the graphics driver. After a lot of diagnostic work I discovered I had fried part of the chip with the Intel graphics so I can confirm that you can indeed damage the gpu and the CPU be fine in an integrated chip.

you my friend are childish with petty insults instead of having an adult discussion.
Also you will find GPUs can be damaged when integrated and the CPU remain intact do your research.I chose not to delve any deeper into this unproductive talk.

it is a good alternative
An AMD A10 is marketed as an APU. This is a fairly decent processor, but its USP is the powerful onboard graphics. This is best for gamers on an extremely tight budget.
The Intel i5 is a powerful processor, but its onboard graphics are quite inferior when compared to the A10.
A10 should be picked by a gamer only if under an extremely tight budget. If budget is not a concern, the i5 with a discrete graphic card is preferable.
For programming, the A10 is not going to be quite helpful. Even if budget is a concern, there are better processors for a programmer at comparable prices.

You saying that Intel HD graphics 620 is "really good" is BS. They have about the same performance as the graphics in the A10 http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-620.172256.0.html

So, the A10 has FHD screen, 16GB ram, same performance GPU, slightly slower CPU (not noticeable to a regular user, perfect for most tasks) and is £50 cheaper. It's a definitely better computer. Buy here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/visit?hukdm=5&d=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fproduct%2F6215246
