Incontestably? Europe was the predominant driver of African slavery during the 16th and 19th centuries but to blame whitey for the whole African slave trade is a modern falsehood. Arab/Islamic participation was large scale and over a much greater period. They began the African slave trade many centuries before Europe did and continued it into the 20th C.

That list is spurious and exaggerated at best. Surprised you haven't included Dresden and the greatly excessive figure of 300,000 that gets bandied about when even the Germans put it at 30,000. I've read an account of the Bengal famine before quite recently and to sum up its conclusion the cause was primarily down to exceptionally heavy prolonged rain that caused diseased crops and was exacerbated by a slow response and corrupt regional Indian administration. However I'll look for this "2010 book" although it's not named and hopefully find some reviews that scrutinize, to put it mildly, its highly contentious claims.

Look, all conquering armies impose vicious regimes of rape, pillage and murder upon those they attempt to civilise. It is the soldiers reward for the propaganda they are incessantly fed from their rulers. You can't get a man to risk his life for a cause from which he will not profit unless he'll profit. The Roman's like any imperialist army could be extremely cruel look at the methods of torture they embraced - you've seen The Passion of the Christ. That is not to say they didn't bring benefits of their civilisation to their empire, incontestably, physically they did. True up to a point but overcooked. The "overwhelming majority" did not suffer "cruelty or vicious oppression" within the British Empire, a minority yes. As for "drudgery", the overwhelming majority did, but that was unfortunately life in general that occurred everywhere within or outside the British Empire. And it was no worse than under other European empires and in some ways better.

Your author compares the British Empire to Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun, but that is a fairly outrageous exaggeration in my view. A more accurate comparison would be that of the Roman Empire, having both beneficial and harmful aspects.

So where is it now? Or maybe you see a white man as a slave owner too?

Yes, the empire was a great thing, if, and only if, you were part of the patrician class, Paxman's public school crowd, that drew upon the massive benefits if offered. If, however, you were part of the class, the overwhelming majority, that serviced this small elite your life was one of drudgery, cruelty and vicious oppression.

I have voted HOT, as it is a deal, but for me they are as common as muck. J Sainsbury will be wanting shot, hence the low price.

These look so much better then the picture .I bought another and reading reviews there good quality and wash well . I bought these just before xmas at 8.50 on here. Since I been meaning to collect a second pack . I will change my profile picture to how they look. Or I can post a picture but not shore how to do. To be honest there still much better then the pic I have took
