Jesus some people on here are miserable ****. They're giving you £5 off (of clothes that are already quite cheap) for a bag of clothes most people would just throw away anyway. And you're still complaining.
We live in a country full of such moaners.

Wondered what was going on with all these people going in fully clothed... then coming out naked with only a smile

Is it just me that thinks it's not worth the effort for a money off voucher? It's not even a proper £5 voucher.
Would rather give to charity jumble sale.

The charity shop I work in accepts rags etc as I'm sure many others do. We don't get much from them when we sell them in but every penny helps.

I've just got the same email. I missed the drop off last year and have a bag of stuff not suitable for a charity shop but could make rags etc. Cool £5 voucher off a £25 spend... Easily done with my kids.

Nice, just added that the voucher is £5 off a £30 spend. Also for the voucher you'll need to fill an average sized supermarket carrier bag. Cheers for this!

What do they do with these clothes ? they make money on this !! don't take anything in that's worth anything you are doing them a favour.you would be better off selling at a car boot sale ,cash for clothes or doing your bit for charity shops , don't like this , as it takes clothes from people who need them.

Well - If there were a few items I'd like to buy from H&M and I also had some clothes I wanted to get rid of, the perhaps it's just me that thinks it'd be worth it.

I offered my clothes (4 black bags full) some with tags still on, 4 seat dining chairs with glass dining table and cabinet and two seater sofa to the British Hear Foundation, the rude driver said there not good enough and left without taking anything!!!!!! I was appalled and shocked as there was nothing wrong with them. So I put them on freecycle and all was collected the same day and were appreciated. So I don't feel guilty going to H&M.

It is a sign of the times.I have noticed some charity shops do seem to have gone up market from the old days.Don't let it stop you doing your bit for charity/freecycle as there are many out there who appreciate the kind gesture.

Exchanging something you own in return for money does not mean you get the money for "free".

It's barely any more than the 10% - 15% codes you get for doing nothing.

Does anyone know how much is a 'bag of clothes'? Would one or two tops suffice for the voucher?

Seems to be a carrier bag full

I've noticed less and less charity shops asking for rags, the ones that did last year I put them in a different bag and labelled it as rags, so they didn't have to sort through the other stuff I've baggsd. If I can't give clothing away to friends it goes to the charity shop. There seems to be very few that take bric a brac, books etc.

This offer is actually on all year round, with rapidly growing children my wife has been doing this constantly for the last 2 years and it isn't restricted so you can use on sale items etc too.

Surely you'd get the same return for just taking this down to a shop that deals with old clothes by the kilo specifically. Cold for that alone
Or just take them to a homeless charity and actually see them go to better use that fits their value.
MoogleV
27 Jan 172#28
Those places usually pay 50p per kilo. So to get a fiver you'd need 10kg. No way a carrier bag full would weigh that, that's more like a black bin bag full. A carrier bag would get you maybe £1.50.

I know BHF charity shop weighs in rags and they get abit of money for em too

It used to be £5 voucher with no minimum spend a few years back. I cleared all the unwanted clothes but as somebody said earlier - 10% or 15% vouchers are available so not worth carrying all these to the shops, waiting in a queue to be given a £5 voucher for a £30 spend.

I decided not to give to the major charities that are essentially businesses with CEO's that earn millions, there are local charities out there that do good work... Unfortunately they can have a religious tinge, hopefully they're not proselytizing too many people with my wares.

RE rags (or unsellable clothes), I think you can take them to http://www.traid.org.uk/about-traid/ too - they have recycling banks across the UK. The trouble is many people donate their unsaleable rubbish (and guilt re landfill) to charity shops and it costs the charity to get rid of them themselves - I experienced this when doing a collection for the homeless one year. But as RedLozzer says, there are some charity shops that accept rags. I guess it's always worth asking the shops in question before, and not being offended when they say No - charity shops aren't a dumping ground.

Most not-for-profit organisations are very inefficient in utilisation of resources as they do not have shareholders whom they are answerable to. The senior management salaries and benefits end up consuming most of cashflows and only the remainder is actually put to good use.
