i figured it's just lack of practice plus being too used to the old controllers but i also have a huge amount of trouble shifting from top to bottom in hectic parts and get completely lost - at least with the old layout if you flub a few notes you can quickly recover. i do like the gig backdrops though, true they may be distracting but it feels horrible when you mess up and awesome if you recover and start doing great. casual mode simply isn't worth playing it's so easy and until i can get used to the up/down shifts some songs in regular are pains in the **** while others are still cakewalks.

as a clarification, i mentioned the guitars are PC compatible which they apparently are, but as far as i'm aware there are no 6-button PC fan games as FoF and phaseshift are built for previous versions of both series so gh live controllers are useless on PC.

​I totally agree with you. The button placement are downright rubbish. On easy mode it's too easy because you're pressing 3 buttons next to each other repeatedly and THATS IT. No matter how the devs tried to sugarcoat it, it's just not enjoyable. On medium mode it gets hectic and uncontrollable as switching between the 6 buttons (up and down) is so damn hard in a beat of a second, you're just simply being set up for failure - and again, no joy out of that either.
(I am predominantly left handed but can do most tasks with my right hand confidently.)
I tried to play with both hand setting, and it didn't help one bit.
I'd like to think I'm just being a noob on it but so far quite a few people has the same or similar experience than mine.
This game is a let down, the guitar - sadly - collecting dust.
Voted cold, not worth the money.

One thing to add to this that I found but is more personal taste than anything else is that I hate the new control system.

I played these games on expert when it was the five buttons but I can't stand the six buttons and in my experience so far I'm finding it a pain even on just regular mostly for one reason; it's not only from the getting used to a new layout point of view but some bright spark in design made the decision to cramp the buttons as close together as possible at the end of the guitar so that there's no space between them and thus you can't quickly simply feel where your fingers are like you used to be able to.

Personally I find it really tricky to stay on the correct button at hectic bits although I don't know if it even matters in the GHTV mode anymore, I don't know if it's possible to even fail.

I am absolutely opposed to the way having to purchase songs to play them once works though. The devs spun some BS excuse about wanting to make it better "for everyone" and this was a better path "for everyone". (Or for their wallets which seems to have worked well for them...)

Another thing you touched on is the new backdrops to the songs and I don't like those either. Admittedly it is a cool idea to have a live crowd or the actual music video but I find it totally distracting compared to before which was easy to tune out to focus on the actual game.

What it all adds up to in my eyes is that GH Live feels very clearly designed for casual players at a party for example where you can just pick it up and play and feels less like it's meant to be put on and really focused on like all the previous versions.

Are PS3 controllers compatible with PS4 version of the game?

price is great so heat added, but after getting the party box on ps4 for £25 at christmas i must say i'm unimpressed - the game only has a handful of songs on-disk that are played in 3/4 song sets and the rest belong to the online music video mode. while i am impressed with the whole playing in front of a crowd thing (great when you are great, horrible when you suck) the fact that you can't freely choose songs or replay them to practice your favourites is a huge minus in my eyes - you need to pay or grind a random online playlist just to play them once. on the plus side, ps3 (and presumably x360) controllers work on the PC shareware copies of this game - frets on fire and phase shift. there is also a heck of a lot of content on the online music channels, though you only have 2 themed "stations" to play and content changes hourly so you may love one hour and be stuck with crap the next.

Why is ps4 still 20 quid...
