A wee New Year bonus for you. Short version: You can get a year of Meerkat Movies 2 for 1 cinema (codes eligible every Tuesday/Wednesday) without actually purchasing insurance from comparethemarket.com - follow these instructions: 1. Do a Compare the Market quote for car insurance (may also work with other types of insurance). 2. Click on a quote and take it as far as you can without making the purchase. 3. Take a note of your quote reference number, fill in the Meerkat Movies online application form (http://your-rewards.comparethemarket.com/claim)* and wait 24-48 hours for it to be validated. Even though you have not purchased insurance, it should still be approved. Background detail (feel free to ignore): You would assume that Compare the Market would reject an application for a Meerkat Movies code if you didn’t go through with your quote, but not so in my experience. Twelve months ago I got a CTM quote and I called up one of the car insurers to discuss some details of it (there’s no stipulation that you must complete the process online). However, some of the insurer’s terms weren’t to my liking and I ended up going with a different company. However, I’d already prematurely completed the Meerkat Movies application, so imagine how surprised I was that it passed the validation process. I assumed it was just a one-off glitch, but after enjoying 12 months of 2 for 1 cinema I decided to try it again with different details last week. Once again, I generated a quote but didn’t go through with it and, sure enough, Meerkat Movies validated my application within 24 hours. I debated whether to share this, as it could be deemed morally questionable to apply for an offer knowing that you aren’t eligible, but for all I know Compare the Market are fully aware of this and are quite happy to take the hit in exchange for some of your personal details. Happy 2017, HUKDers. * At the time of writing you also get to choose a free stuffed meerkat toy with this Compare the Market offer, but the validation process for the toy is much longer so I don’t want to promise that you’ll get the toy for free too. But you might!

I got the 2 for 1 movies around june....then they sent me an email saying I could claim a toy...... that was rejected as I already claimed the movies, strange as I was only claiming what they said I could but turned out to be movies or toy!

Our Jails are already full enough and now you are responsible for alerting the police/Serious fraud squad and further filling them with the "Meerkat 2for1 fraud brigade"....

whilst I will feel safer in my bed that these criminal have felt the consequences of their illegal activities... our taxes have taken one hell of a battering because of you....

As long as everything is safe in the world.. I am glad your society conscious free time was best served in this manner... I could however suggest that many local charities accept people like you with a good deed in your heart, a daily mail under your arm and plenty of free time... its called Volunteering... look it up.. I think itll open a whole new world of the kindness and giving you seek...

On behalf of England, Great Britain, the rest of Europe and the world beyond I thank you for outstanding contribution to society and safe guarding its morale compass...

I remember actually getting a quote for my dad through these, so i've just logged in to that account and it's offered me the opportunity to claim the reward as well so i've given it a punt - worth a try!.

I worked with CTM for several years and do you know why they do this? it's so they can trace which insurance company sold on thier site so they can get thier money. it can take months to link most of these quotes so doesn't surprise me they accept it. Good find OP

You are all ticking the box "By completing this form I confirm I bought my insurance policy, or was successfully approved for a credit card or loan, or applied to switch energy, mobile phone, or broadband, phone & TV providers through comparethemarket.com". Isnt that legally binding and technically lying?
leemh24
3 Jan 17 #34
Just spend 2-3 quid on a train ride from one town to another and claim it that way.
I've done this 2 years in a row now. You get your 2-3 quid back with your first cinema trip. Simples!!
gabesdad
3 Jan 17 #35
I feel it's falsely marketed in a way, as the fact you can only go Tuesdays and Wednesdays doesn't exactly jump out in the adverts. I work both days every week unless I'm on leave, so never get to use it!

Why get a stressful and expensive divorce I thought this new life was meant to be better ? Just walk out! remember send fruit and veg back weekly for the kids though, easy enough, order online and delivered.

Cinema nights with the kids mid week
gwapenut

It's not technically lying, it's fraud isn't it? I was hopeful for this thread until I saw that you'd mentioned this declaration!

Will it work for a meerkat toy?
seaniboy
3 Jan 17 #42
Thats not fair on the kids tho, its not their fault the adults were kids when having kids, and no amount of fruit and veg or meerkat toys/movies will make up for the loss of a parent - much better just learning from mistakes and be careful where you put ones organs and thus fruit & veg in future

To be honest this is incredibly petty of people who abuse the system like this, and although this will make me quite a target for abuse now, but I've phoned Compare the Market and informed them of this exact thread and what people are doing.

Its classed as Fraud and I've been informed people who have abused this will face consequences.

3 Jan 17 #51
Their accounts closed? I suspect that wouldn't really bother anyone as they'd only be in the original position pre-signup anyway

In any case I don't agree with this either, it's not so much a freebie as playing the game.
Drooler
3 Jan 17 #52
And furthermore it's hardly fraudulent. CTM do NOT pay for the movie tickets at all. Here's the model.

Consumer - free ticket. Bonus. Obvious.

CTM - you have purchased a product and they are paid for the referral. They are giving you a code costing them nothing.

Cinema - they are getting an ass in a seat x 2 (sale of one ticket at full price) AND the strong possibility of sales of concessions with huge markup such as popcorn or fizzy drinks which outweighs profit on the tickets anyway by a mile.

Spot the loser. There isn't one.
freebiehunter
3 Jan 17 #53
This is clearly the wrong website for you then.. deals, freebies, loopholes... it's what it's all about
gwapenut
3 Jan 17 #54
It IS fraudulent by definition, but your other points are valid that the net loss to CTM is probably zero (or the £2 for the cheapest insurance policy that people would otherwise buy!)
gwapenut
3 Jan 17 #55
Yes. But not fraud.

If you fancy playing that kind of game though, why not maximise your returns by watching your first film at 10am then sneaking between screens as each film ends. You can then get 5 movies for the price of one. Whilst technically straying into theft rather than fraud, I'm sure you're still keen to endorse that further loophole.
Shatwell
3 Jan 17 #56
That's nothing, I reported this thread to the Police, My local PM, Inland Revenue, Ant 'n Dec, GCHQ, Scooby Doo, BBC Points of View and a whole lot of Ferk you.

I doubt they will honour it, last year I had to call them couple of time for my rewards as I genuinely purchased through them. They had to double check with the company whom I purchased to ensure I qualify. The reason it was taking long was I purchased a product from a company whom I was already with hence it was hard to locate my purchase. Nevertheless after 2 months my rewards were successful!

I find it very hard to believe that CTM were not aware of this before your phone call. It has been a "loophole" for at least 2 years and is mentioned all over the web.
They would have to be either incredibly naive and not have a single employee who ever goes online or.....they know and they don't care. Which is more likely?

seaniboy
10 Jan 17 #72
There is probably a kickback when a target number is met so CTM win anyway, have you seen the prices at cinemas for munchies ? They are raking it in...

I used to get a bag search at Virgin (with my Orange Wednesday and £9.99 Cinecard) and they would try to confiscate my external supplies...to which I would say these are allergen, caffeine, sugar free that you don't sell and so severe it's a disability and I can eat the chips only here. Some of the jumped up minimum wage 'bouncers' would not half give you a snarl - which of course I would smile back at. Believe me having worked at big nationals they pay a pittance for buying cinema stock in bulk - because it's a psychological cheap advertising splashed all over the place that associates 'good time' with their products.

I would stand with company watching most people spend £6+ and that was a decade ago, defo not got cheaper.

Meerkats (executive table) are living like Mariah Carey not a sand hole in the ground, kick backs can be massive money, look at Tesco charging for 'certain' shelf space.

CTM is making cash out this, & your personal details for marketing & cinema chain/promotion company kickbacks.

Rest easy my pretties, someone's info is already on the dark web.
seaniboy
10 Jan 17 #73
I doubt a good bulk of HUKD give no toss, DWP & HMRC payments cannot be classed as income in court proceedings raised against one in receipt of such. Working with them ? Doubt they put you in the payroll for informing them.

How many loopholes do you think the cinema and insurance companies have to pay no tax ? It works both ways imo.
