I know you're a little out of touch gramps, but these things provide a vastly superior gaming experience than consoles, they are obscenely expensive, but people who want to game at higher resolution, with higher frame rates and much better graphics do indeed pay it. It's like saying you don't believe anyone would buy a Ferrari for 200k when you can buy a Fiesta for 16k.

They have the EVGA 1070 SC for £336 too (apparently EVGA will swap this out for you or you can attach a thermal kit yourself)
Is it good? help! one last piece to complete my new build PC.

This card looks really good as I am building a new PC for the HTC Vive. Was going to go for the MSI but too big for my case. Not sure if I should hang on though maybe it will drop more in price when the TI is out???

I dont reckon the Ti will be announced until H2 this year. Nvidia annoyed a lot of people releasing the 1080 so quickly after the 980

And the Ti is rumoured to be anywhere from £800 to £1000. I was originally holding out for the Ti for my new build but after those price rumours and the no show at this weeks CES I decided to pull the trigger and get this.

That's insane pricing, even the 980ti when it came out wasn't more than £650 and the 980ti absolutely destroyed the 980. For £800-£1000 I would expect performance close to a 1080 sli not even a 1070 sli.

I just bought my lad (15) a whole new rig for Xmas, and I payed 644 for his Strix 1080 - but there was a wee screw up in there, and let's just say I was fortunate enough to acquire a new 1080 sent out, in place of a gaming code that I was calling to have replaced... So basically I got a BOGOF Strix 1080 A8G. Happy happy happy. Makes it that wee bit more easy to swallow, considering I bought all really good parts!! And I have one happy boy. Little does he know he will be running the 1080 in Sli come July (his birthday).... Oh, and it's a good price for this card btw, so have some heat!

Followed this link earlier and it was on for £331, hesitated for an hour and they went to £352 until sold out. Gutted! Genuine 1080 G1 too. Did anyone here get it for that price?

Grrr, literally just got this installed today after being delivered yesterday from the previous deal at £567! Amazon won't budge on refunding the difference either. Still, the thing is a beast as promised. I'll be **** if I see it any lower..

Just got one myself at this price, it's arriving tomorrow. i know you've only had it a day but can i ask what the temps/noise levels are like on this? I've read that Gigabyte skimped on the coolers for the GTX 10xx generation.

Great Idea to keep the 2nd card and use it as a Birthday present for your boy. If it was me i'd have been 'Sell it straight away' but i bet the look on his face on his birthday will be worth more than whatever you'd get for it. He's one lucky lad!

Yes mate, that was my thoughts exactly! Thanks. He hasn't a clue, and knows that it skint me buying that rig I just got him. So he will be utterly stunned lol... The set up I got for Christmas was the i7 6700k cpu, Hyper 212 evo cooler, the Asus Hero viii motherboard, 16gb corsair vengeance 3000, 2tb wd black hard drive, corsair HX850i psu, and the Asus Strix A8G gfx card (now x2!!) ☺ and the corsair Obsidian 750d. He still had a Samsung 850 Evo ssd which he switched into the new build from his first gaming set up I bought him 3yrs ago and he has the corsair (notice the trend? lol) k70 Rgb keyboard and other periphials. I must admit that my first thought was to sell it, but then I thought, there is no way I'm gonna be willing to fork out all that extra money if he ever wanted to game in sli... So I've put it away where he'll never see it! Funny thing is though, they screwed up the delivery of the first card, and sent me a 30 quid nvidia GeForce 210 instead

Cracking build by the sounds of it. i have pretty much the same set up. One of the best things about Pascal cards is the great power efficiency, so you don't need a beefy PSU to power them in SLI s you'll be golden with a 850W PSU when it comes to SLI'ing them. Corsair are a cracking brand in my opinion, they've come a long way since when they solely made RAM. I have a Corsair T600 case which i have kept since my very first build, minimalist style with loads of room and built like a tank to boot ! it's the only thing i havent changes in all these years.

Yeah, I'm happy with it, and he looks after his stuff, esp when it comes to his gaming! I bought him his first gaming pc 3yrs ago, and that cost me about 850,and back then, I didn't know that much about pc gaming, but I went with what a few of my pc gamer mates had advised. That was an Amd cpu and a gtx 77 or 780 in that build, and I bought it pre built from ginger6. I didn't know enough about them to build my own, so I just went for the rough idea of what he wanted, and winged it! Bought an ssd bout a year ago, the 500gb Samsung one, and I've mainly bought peripherals and games since then. Til Christmas lol. It's only me and him in the house, so I barely see him haha, only when he wants food (or something) typical bloody teen! lol

£500+ for a video card?
WTF!!!
£500 will buy you a very good console.
Is anybody actually buying these video cards?
In my younger years of PC gaming, I could buy a very good card for around £150. I think the 3dfx cards cost around £180 and they were considered bleeding edge.

even back when i was upgrading my pc every week like a mad man video cards were dear, £300 to £400 for something that is worth about £2 today.
The era i am talking about is around 2002. geforce and voodoo card were around back then, and Ati were a hit and miss brand with lots of complaints.
I guess if you have money to burn it can be enjoyable to buy all the latest stuff and get daily use out of it.
I don't think people are mad simply very enthusiastic about the latest technology.
