Futurelearn course, are free online courses run by universities, in this case the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. They have this course starting 16th January
This free online course will help you develop an understanding of basic genealogy techniques and how to communicate your family history. We will consider how to effectively find and analyse sources and explore the potential of DNA testing as applied to genealogy. We’ll help you add historical context to your family history and discuss how to record and communicate research findings in a clear fashion. The course is primarily designed for people at beginner to intermediate level.
On top of this, I have put up a 50% discount offer that is still live for Ancestry (£59.99 instead of £118.99) hotukdeals.com/dea…rue

Cheers op - got caught by the ancestry auto renew (12 month) - just looked into cancelling and they will not refund part subs - so will have to remember later in the year to cancel and look for an offer like you found

Signed up for this one . Want to know more about where we came from . Have got some idea of course but now realise that I should have paid more attention or indeed asked more questions when relatives were alive . No need to be ashamed of anything , we all came from somewhere .

Not at all, but it is an exceptionally valuable tool.

Doesn't this technically make you a student? Would that mean you have access to a .ac.uk email address?

Can recommend this Course as I did it last year.
There are comments facilities under every section and these are an amazing source of information (people posting from everywhere, so some can tell you of area specific information with links), as well as the Course itself.
